General information
This service manual contains information about how to
service MAC Encore Performance.
Safety instructions
Before you carry out service work, read this document.
Installation and service work must comply with local
regulations and accepted codes of good practice.
Observe the safety instructions in the user manual for
the product.
Tools
Make sure that the tools below are available before you
start working on the product:
• ESD mat and wristband.
• Locktite.
• Gloves.
• Torx10 screwdriver.
• Torx20 screwdriver.
• Torx25 screwdriver.
• Umbraco key, 3 mm.
• Alle set key.
• Small atheaded screwdriver.
• Marker and tape.
Important! Take the necessary
precautions to prevent static
electricity from damaging the
product during modication or
repair.

Troubleshooting
Overview of error codes
Error message Symptom Cause Remedy
MMER • Missing module error • See CAN BUS ID addressing
BOOT • Boot upload is activated • See Boot mode rmware upload
CYER • Cyan error • Check the cyan color ag and the end
stop switch.
YEER • Yellow error • Check the yellow color ag, belt and end
stop switch.
MAER • Magenta error • Check the magenta ag, belt and end
stop switch.
CTER • CTC error • Check the CTC ag, belt and end stop
switch.
G1ER • Gobo error • Check if gobo wheel 1 can rotate and if
the motor is engaged.
• Check if the sensor is registering the
magnet of the gobo wheel when it passes
by the sensor.
ZOER • Zoom error • Make sure that the zoom belt glides freely
up and down when the power is off.
• Check if the sensor is registrering the
magnet when the zoom wagon passes by.
FOER • Focus error • Make sure that the focus belt glides freely
up and down when the power is off.
• Check if the sensor is registrering the
magnet when the focus wagon passes by.
SLER • The safety loop is broken.
• PSU, DC-DC or LED driver board are
too hot.
• Safety loop error • Check if the connectors are properly
connected.

Repair and maintenance
Base
Removing the base covers
1. Disconnect the xture from power and let it
cool for 15 minutes until the PSU have been
discharged.
2. Remove the two screws (1) on the front and back
cover.
3. Pull off the base covers (2) sideways.

4. To remove the voltage insulation covers (3),
loosen the four Torx10 screws (4) on each side of
the base and pull up the cover.
5. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

3. Remove the two screws (1) that hold the slide
lock.
4. Remove the ve Torx10 screws (2).
5. Replace the main PCBA.
NOTE! Be careful not to damage the display
connector at the bottom of the PCBA.
NOTE! Fasten the connectors from the right to the
left during installation.
6. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Replacing the PFC PCBA
1. Remove the base covers. See “Removing the
base covers” on page 10.
2. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
3. Remove the air lter. See “Replacing the air lter”
on page 14.
4. Remove the four Torx25 screws (1).
5. Disconnect the connectors.
6. Replace the PFC PCBA.
7. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Replacing the main PCBA
The main PCBA is located in the front with the display.
On top of the main PCBA, the boot loader switch is
located. See “Updating rmware” on page 39.
1. Remove the base covers. See “Removing the
base covers” on page 10.
2. Disconnect the connectors from the left to the
right. See gure 17.

2. Gently pull away the fan assembly (1) from the
xture.
3. Replace the fan assembly.
4. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

3. Gently pull off the lter retainer to access the air

2. Remove the three Torx25 screws (1) on both
sides of the yoke cover.
3. Remove the four Torx20 screws on both handles.

Replacing the pan belt
1. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
2. NOTE! If you loosen or change position of the pan
belt and/or motors, you must calibrate the xture.
See “Calibrating the pan, tilt and zoom function”
on page 20
3. Cut the eleven cable ties (1).

8. Remove the pan bracket (4).
NOTE! Notice the snap ring that holds the wire
guide yoke.
9. Loosen the locknut (5).
10. Push the locknut outwards to loosen the pan belt
(6).
11. Tighten the locknut to hold it in that position.
12. Replace the pan belt.

Replacing the tilt sensor PCBA
1. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
2. Remove the two Torx10 screws (1).
3. Remove the connector.
4. Replace the tilt sensor PCBA.
5. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Replacing the tilt belt
1. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
2. Remove the tilt sensor PCBA. See “Replacing the
tilt sensor PCBA” on page 18.
3. Loosen the locknut (1).
4. Push the belt tensioner to the left (2).

13. Make an “eye” of the pan belt (7).
14. Gently tighten the belt over the motor pulley
NOTE! Before you install the pan bracket, place
the cable ties as it will be difcult to place them
after the pan bracket has been installed.
15. To make sure that the pan belt moves freely
before you tigthen the pan belt tensioner, release
the nut on the pan belt tensioner and turn the
head several times.
16. Tighten the pan belt tensioner.
17. Follow step 1 to 6 in reverse order.
18. Follow the procedure in “Removing the yoke
covers” on page 15 in reverse order.
NOTE! Make sure that the wires in the center of
the yoke run freely.

5. Tighten the locknut (1, gure 33).
6. Replace the tilt belt (3)
7. To make sure that the tilt belt moves freely before
you tighten the tilt belt tensioner again, loosen
the nut on the tilt belt tensioner and tilt the head
several times.
8. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Replacing the pan motor
1. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
2. Loosen the tilt and pan belts.
3. Remove the screws (1).
4. Remove the PCBA (2).
5. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Position of the pan/tilt sensors
There are two types of sensors in the yoke:
• A magnetic sensor with LEDs. The LED is green
if the sensor is powered and the LED is orange if
the sensor is activated by a magnet.
• An absolute encoder, which is mounted on the top
of the pan motor (pan) and on top of one of the tilt
bearings (tilt).
If any of the sensors are replaced, you must recalibrate
both the pan and tilt function. See “Calibrating the pan,
tilt and zoom function” on page 20.

Replacing the tilt motor
1. Remove the yoke covers. See “Removing the
yoke covers” on page 15.
2. Loosen the tilt and pan belts.
3. Remove the screws (1).
4. Remove the PCBA (2).
5. Follow the procedure in reverse order.

Removing the head covers
1. Disconnect the xture from power and let it
cool for 15 minutes until the PSUs have been
discharged.
2. Remove the two Torx25 screws (1).
3. Remove the safety wire (1).
4. To fasten the head, follow the procedure in
reverse order.
