CFR SERIES USER MANUAL 2
1. Features and Specifications:
The CFR 12 is a 12” coaxial, full range lou speaker cabinet which has been esigne for
optimal performance an flexibility within its inten e application as a musicians monitor
lou speaker. It is a passive, n-amplified cabinet, leaving the user free to choose an amplifier.
The esign was conceive with consi erable consultation with customers an we welcome
any comments an suggestions you may have in our continual quest to bring you the pro ucts
you want to use.
Loudspeaker features:
•Optimised for Guitar Sound Reproduction With Cabinet Simulation Pre-amps.
Also suitable for use for monitoring keyboar s, vocals an other sources at the users
iscretion.
.
•Coaxial 12” Driver – Providing a Large and Unchanging Sweet Spot of Sound.
This cabinet contains a coaxial lou speaker – a single river incorporating a tweeter
river an paper cone river esigne specifically to work together into a single, constant
irectivity, spherical point source. This offers the unique a vantage of of a soun -fiel which
oes not significantly change in tonal characteristic wherever the user chooses to listen to
the cabinet off axis by up to 40 egrees (a total soun -fiel span of 80 egrees) both
horizontally & vertically. The soun ispersion iagram below illustrates this behaviour.
Cabinet prod ces a wide sweet spot in both planes for faithf l reprod ction over a wide area.
•Multiple Orientation Cabinet Design - May be used as a monitor or upright
cabinet.
The esign of the cabinet allows for use as a monitor or as a conventional cabinet
stan ing upright for applications such as projection into the au ience from ban backline.
The cabinet orientation iagram below illustrates possible placements.

•Cabinet Connectors support the use of 1/4” Jack and Speakon Connections.
To maintain compatibility with system configurations many musicians are familiar with,
the ability to connect to the lou speaker using 1/4” Jacks is also provi e via combination
ual format Speakon connectors.
We woul like to recommen however that Speakon connectors are use
where possible for connecting lou speaker cabinets, as this ecreases the
chance of amaging equipment or electrocution through acci ental exposure
to the live en of an amplifier output lea , shorting, or connection to line level
inputs.

2. Mono Loudspeaker Usage:
.
For Mono (single channel applications) connect speaker cabinet to amplifier as shown. Where
chaining a itional cabinets to the same amplifier channel is require , the Output Link from the
first cabinet can be use as shown above in grey.
When connecting one or more speakers to an amplifier ensure that the amplifier can han le
the loa presente an that the configuration is properly matche for safe an optimal
performance. A Table of recommen e combinations is provi e on page 6.
If unsure about any aspect of using the the lou speaker system, then consult with a qualifie
au io engineer.
The speaker cabinet is a Mono only evice, un er NO circumstances attach
multiple amplifier channels to the same cabinets connector block, otherwise poor
performance an amage to equipment being use is likely to occur.
For stereo applications please follow the instructions on the next page, using
two or more speaker cabinets.
Also note that series & series parallel connections cannot be use with this cabinet
ue to the presence of an internal crossover splitting the signal for the coaxial
river; poor performance will result.

. Stereo Loudspeaker Usage:
For Stereo lou speaker usage, two or more cabinets are require , connect as shown above.
When multiple cabinets are require on the same amplifier channel, connect a itional
lou speakers as shown on the previous page.
Also note that series & series parallel connections cannot be use with this cabinet ue to the
presence of an internal crossover splitting the signal for the coaxial river; poor performance will
result.
Under NO circumstances connect multiple amplifier channels to the same cabinet !
Irreversible damage to both speaker, amplifier and associated eq ipment is likely to occ r
and is not covered by warranty.

4. Recommended Amplification:
We recommen the use of matrix GT an GM series amplifiers to power the CFR 12
optimally; however other amplifiers maybe use at users iscretion.
As a rule of thumb concerning musical instrument use of the cabinet in combination with
an amplifier, a power capacity of up to twice the continuous RMS rating is permissible for soli
state amps; provi e the source oesn't maintain a continuous level tone (e.g. some electronic
organs), this allows the cabinet to work at full output without amplifiers clipping rea ily.
Amplifiers of less than rate minimum power are not recommen e as har clipping
typically present when soli state amps are over riven is likely to amage the lou speaker.
Valve amplifiers however maybe use at lower power levels as specifie below, as they
clip much more softly when over riven, resulting in less stress on the river than an abuse
soli state amplifier. With valves this is one no less to extract the tonal characteristics of valves
riven near their limit. We recommen however that a soli state amplifier is use within its
limits an one of the many excellent cabinet mo elling effects units is use to recreate this tonal
effect at any esire volume level, rather than ramping it up to 'eleven'.
