getting to know your hob
Thank you for choosing a Matsui Vitroceramic Builtin Hob. We hope the following
information will help you to familiarise yourself with the features of the hob and to
use it successfully and safely.
Please read the instructions in this user guide before using the hob and keep it for
future reference.

important safety notes
We have included this section for your safety. Please read this information carefully
before using your hob.
Safety notes:
. Make sure all the packaging has been removed before you use the hob.
. Keep all packaging until you are sure that the hob is working properly.
. Retain this user guide and your receipts for future reference.
. The electrical safety of this hob is guaranteed only if it is connected to a properly
earthed system, which complies with the electrical safety standards in force. If you
cannot verify that this fundamental safety requirement is in place, consult a qualified
electrician.
. Do not put pressure on the power supply cable while fitting the hob.
. Never replace the power supply cable yourself. Damaged cables must only be
replaced by an authorised service centre.
. Adaptors, multiple sockets and/or extension leads must not be used.
. Never leave the hob unattended when cooking with fat or oil. They can rapidly catch
fire if overheated.
. This hob must only be used for the purpose of heating or cooking food, any other
use, for example heating rooms, is dangerous. The manufacturer will not be liable
for damages resulting from improper, incorrect or negligent use.
. Be careful when using small household appliances, such as irons, near the elements
and make sure the power cable is kept well away from hot surfaces.
. Make sure all the controls are in the off position when not in use.
WARNING:
. It is hazardous for anyone other than authorised service personal, to carry out
servicing or repairs which involve the removal of covers.
. To avoid the risk of an electric shock, do not attempt repairs yourself.
. In the event of any damage that occurs as a result of improper connection or
installation. The warranty will not be valid.

. Use only stable flat-based pans. They should be placed on the hob with handles
turned inwards away from the edge of the work top so that they are not accidentally
knocked or pulled over.
. Do not use flammable liquids (alcohol, petrol) near the hob when it is in use.
. When an element is turned on, a little noise may be heard and the surface will
turn red, this is normal.
. If sharp edged dishes are scraped on a surface of a Virtroceramic hob, it may
cause damage to the surface.
. Do not cut bread on the glass of the Vitroceramic hob.
. If you notice any cracks on your Vitroceramic hob surface, disconnect it from the
supply source to avoid the possibility of an electric shock.
. It is advisable to have a smoke detector fitted in your home, and have a fire blanket
or extinguisher close to the hob.
. Do not use a steam cleaner to clean your hob.
. Harsh, abrasive cleaners should not be used as they can scratch the glass surface.
. Glass panels should not be used as working surfaces.
. Any maintenance must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the mains
supply disconnected.
. To prevent misoperation of the hob, keep the control touch points clean.

Touch screen contro pane
Your hob has four elements below a ceramic glass surface. Each element is
operated by using the touch controls. When using touch controls, it is best to use
the ball of your finger rather than the tip. The hob is designed for operating at 9
different levels.

Hob with touch contro s
Using the e ements
1 Switch the hob on by touching .
2 Touch the button corresponding to the element you wish to cook on.
3 A red dot will appear beside the button that is selected. (If no element
is selected within 10 seconds the hob will automatically turn off).
4 Select the element temperature setting, using the or as required. The
element is now ready to cook on. For quickest boil times, select 9 and then
adjust down to a lower setting as required (1-9 will be displayed next to the
element selector).
Heat boost
All heaters are equipped with a heat boost function. If the heat boost is active, then
the heater will be operated with maximum power for a set period of time depending
on the selected heat setting. This is indicated through a flashing 'A' alternating with
the temperature setting level. The higher the setting the longer the heat boost. Once
the heat boost time ends only the heat setting will be indicated and the element will
cycle 'on' and 'off'.
To activate the heat boost, touch the button corresponding to the element you wish
to cook on, then by pressing ' ' , the heat boost is active. Duration of the heat
boost depends on the temperature setting level , select level 9 to 1 with heat boost.
The heat boost can be turned off by pressing ' ' until the heat setting '0' appears
or by pressing ' ' until heat setting '9' appears.
Hot hob warning indicators
When a hot hob warning indicator light is displaying H, it is indicating the cooking
zone has some residual heat and will require the minimum amount of energy to
reheat to cooking temperature.
The indicator should NOT be seen that it is safe to touch the cooking zones if the
light is not lit. Care must ALWAYS be taken before touching any cooking appliance.

1 To activate the child lock; first press until the buzzer beeps, then press
and simultaneously and press afterwards, L will appear in all displays
and the controls can not be changed.
2 To deactivate the child lock; first press until the buzzer beeps, then press
and simultaneously and press afterwards. L will disappear in the
displays.
3 It is only possible to activate the child lock when the hob is switched off.

Turning an e ement off
1 Select the element you want to turn off by pressing the corresponding touch
control button.
2 Using the button, turn the temperature down to 0. (Also using the and
buttons simultaneosly turns the temperature to 0).
3 To turn all of the elements off at once, touch the button.
Key Lock
If you press and hold the key symbol for 2 seconds, the controls cannot be
changed until the key symbol is pressed and held a second time. It is only possible
to switch the hob off by touching .

hints and tips
Cookware
. Use heavy gauge, flat, smooth bottomed pans that are the same diameter as the
element. This will provide good contact with the glass and help reduce cooking
times.
. Cookware with a stainless steel sandwich base or enameled cast iron base will
give you the best results.
. Never use plastic or aluminium foil dishes on the hob.
. Aluminium and copper bottomed cookware can cause a metallic residue to remain
on the hob. If left, this becomes difficult to remove. Clean the hob after every use.
Energy saving
. Using a lid will reduce cooking times.
. When liquid comes to the boil reduce the temperature setting.
. Place a pan on the element prior to turning on the heat, to retain the heat.
. Choose cookware of the proper size, material and construction as indicated
above.
. Minimise the amount of liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
. Use residual heat retained in the glass after the element is turned off to continue
the cooking process or to keep foods warm.
. Select the proper temperature setting for the cooking task.

hints and tips
C eaning tips
. Do not use abrasive pads, corrosive cleaners, aerosol cleaners or sharp objects
to clean the surfaces of the hob.
. To remove burnt food, soak it off with a damp cloth and washing-up liquid.
. You may use a scraper purchased from your local market for cleaning food or
residues. Sticky foods must be cleaned immediately when they spill, before the
glass has time to cool down.
. Be careful not to scratch the silicon adhesive placed on the edges of the glass
whilst using a scraper.
. The scraper has a razor, therefore, it must be kept away from children.
. Use special ceramic hob cleaner on the hob while it is warm to touch. Rinse and
wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. The hob may become stained if
cleaning residue remains.

WARNING:
The electrical connection of this hob should be carried out by a qualified electrician,
according to the instructions in this guide and in compliance with the current
regulations. In the event of any damage that occurs as a result of improper
connection or installation, the warranty will not be valid. This appliance must be
earthed.

Insta ation safety
. Any adjacent units or furniture, which are higher than the hob, must be at least
15cm from the hob. This includes objects such as spice racks.
. Any overhanging surface should be at least 65cm above the hob.
. Extractor fans must be fitted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
. The wall in contact with the rear of the hob must be made of flameproof material.
. The power cable length should not exceed 2 metres.

Fitting the hob into a work surface
1 The hob can be fitted into any work surface provided it is heat resistant up to
at least 90ºC.
2 Create an opening with the di ensions shown in the picture below. The distance
between the rear edge of the hob and any adjacent wall depends on wall
surface. Please dont use easily co bustible aterial like curtain, paper at nearby
the hob.
3 Apply the one-sided self-adhesive sealing tape supplied all the way round the
lower edge of the cooking surface along the outer edge of the glass cera ic
panel. Do not stretch it. Screw the 4 worktop ounting brackets on the side walls
of product.

If there is no dedicated hob circuit and fused switch, they ust be installed by a
qualified electrician before the hob is connected.
An approved suitable cable ust be connected fro the Consu er Unit ( ain fuse
box) and be protected by its own 30a p fuse or Micro Circuit Breaker (MCB).
The electrician ust provide a fused double-pole switch, which disconnects both
the line (live) and neutral conductors.
The switch should be fitted to the kitchen wall and ust be placed in an easy
accessible position in accordance with IEE regulations. One end of the suitable
power supply cable connects to the switch and other end connects to hobs power
connection box which is located at the back of the hob. re ove the cover of the
power connectipon box and install the cable in accordance with the connection
diagra .
4 Secure the hob in place by putting it into cutout on the work surface.
5 If the hob is being fitted over a cupboard or drawer unit which has no top panel,
a top panel ust be fitted. This panel will for a separation between the contents
of the cupboard or drawer and the underside of the hob. The panel should be
re ovable, to allow for access to the underside of the hob, and can be fitted at
least 10c fro the underside of the hob.
Making an electrical connection
Before aking a connection, check that:
. The ains voltage is the sa e as that quoted on the rating plate which is situated
at the back of your hob.
. The circuit can support the appliance load (see the rating plate).
. The power supply has an earth connection, which co plies with the provisions of
current regulations and is in good working order.
. The fused switch is easily accessible once the hob has been installed.

Before inserting the oven, it is necessary to remove the rear kitchen
element panel in the area of the oven opening, in order to supply
cooling.

The power supply cable must be positioned away from direct heat sources. It should
not be subjected to a temperature rise of more than 500C above room temperature.
This appliance conforms with the requirements of the following EEC Directives:
. Vitroceramic hob EEC/ 3/23 and 93/68, EEC/89/336 relating to radio interference,
. EEC/89/109 relating to contact with foods.
Power connection box
For the touch controlled and knob controlled Vitroceramic hob the cable type must
be H05VV-F 3 x 2.5mm2 and the connection should be made as in this diagram.
The cable clamp inside the power connection box can be used in two different ways.
For flat cables, the cable clamp should be positioned as shown in figure A. For round
cables, the clamp should be positioned as shown in figure B.
