damagetosockets,cables,connections,ortheunititselfpleasestopworkimmediatelyandrequestadvicefrom
Mechlineoraqualifiedelectrician.
Ultravioletlight–DuetotheHyGenikxunitdesign,UVexposureisnotpossibleduringstandardoperation.Beawaredirect
exposuretoUltravioletlightcanbeharmfultoskinandeyescausingirritationoreventemporaryblindness.Ifthereisany
damagetotheunitpleasedisconnectpowerandcontactMechline.
Ozone–WhilstHyGenikxisnotanozonegenerator,averysmallvolumeofozoneisreleasedasaby-productbythe
combinationoftechnologiesused.Atthelowlevelsproducedthereisnopotentialhealthriskduringcorrectoperation.
OurHGX-W-15-R/HGX-T-15-Rrefusemodelisouronlyunitdesignedforuseinunoccupiedareas.Athigherlevelsozone
cancauseirritationtothroat,cough,headachesorshortnessofbreath,thesesymptomsshouldonlybeshorttermandbe
resolvedwhentheindividualisremovedtofreshair.Ifthereareanyconcernsabouttheozoneproducedpleasedisconnect

9.4.1HowdoIknowtheHyGenikxunitisworking?
Firstly,thegreencrosslightindicatorwillbeilluminatedonthefrontoftheunittoshowtheproductisoperating.
After12monthsofusethebuilt-inwarningsystemwilltellyouwhenthelamp(andbattery)requires
replacementtoensurepeakefficiency.
Therewillbeadefinitechangeintheenvironmentalairquality.Internalenvironmentsthathaveausuallingering
backgroundodour,whetherfromcooking/food,bodyodour,cleaningproducts,wastematerial,oracombination
ofthese,willsmellnoticeablyfresher.Thischangewillbemostobviousatthestartofaworkingday,clearly
demonstratingtheunitisworking.
Areaswhereitiseasiertomonitorperformancearethosewithobviousodourissues,suchasawashroom,
changingroomorbinstore.Here,odourswillbesignificantlyreducedoreliminatedcompletely.
9.4.2 Howareyourproductsdifferenttofragranceunits?
(General)Theygofarbeyondodourcontrol.Ratherthanmaskingodourstheyremovesmellsbytargetingand
killingtherootcause,whichisusuallymicroorganisms.(Food)Infoodstoragemicroorganismsareresponsiblefor
spoilageandtheshorteningoffoodlife.Independenttestinghasdemonstratedhowweextendfoodlife
(specificallyvegetablesandsoftfruits)byreducingthemicroorganisms.Note:Thisunitisnottoreplaceproduct

Titaniumdioxideisalsoasemiconductor.Whenasemiconductorisbombardedwithlightofcertainwavelengths,
electronsinthematerial’svalencebandareexcitedintotheconductionband.Thismeanstheyarefreetomove
andtheirenergyendsupsplittingnearbywatermoleculesintotwoparts,hydroxylradicalsandsuper-oxideions.
Freeradicalsareunchargedatomsormoleculeswithunpairedelectrons.Unpairedelectronsarehighlyreactive,
sofreeradicalsquicklyengageinchemicalreactions.Hydroxylradicalsareamongthemostpowerfuloxidizersin
theworld,strongerthanchlorine,ozone,andperoxide,andalsoveryshortlived.
Superoxideiscreatedbytheadditionofoneelectrontooxygen.Thisfreeradicalhasarelativelylonghalf-life:
lessthanonesecond.
Bacteria,virusesandvolatileorganiccompounds(VOCs),areheldtogetherbycarbon-carbon,carbon-oxygenor
carbon-hydrogenbonds.Oxidizersdestroythesebondsandfragmentthemoleculeintosmallercompounds
whicharebrokendownuntilonlycarbondioxideandwaterareleft.
Aphotocatalyticpurifiercaneliminateparticlesdownto0.001micronsfromair,includingtheverytinylung
penetratingparticles.MostHEPAairfilterscannotremoveparticlessmallerthan0.3microns.
Pollens,dustmiteallergens,petdander,mould,bacteria,andvirusesintheair,areonthelistofitemsremoved
throughPhotocatalyticreaction.HyGenikx,incorporatingthistechnology,caneliminatetoxicgasVOCpollutants
includingformaldehyde,exhaustfumes,benzene,toluene,andodourslikeammoniaandhydrogensulphide
fromourair.

OxygenmoleculestransformingOxygenintoahighlyreactivestatesofOzoneandSuperoxideIonswhich
leavetheunitas“PlasmaQuatro”.
•PlasmaQuatroisthegasenergizedbythehighintensityUVlight.Itleavestheunitwiththeairflowand
consistsofamixtureofactivatedoxygen,triatomicoxygenandsuperoxideions.Theseinteractwitheach
othergivingaveryefficientpurificationoftheairandallexposedsurfaces.Manytimesmoreefficientthan
ozoneorUVlightworkingalone.
9.4.9 Theunitproducesozone.Isthisdangerous?
WhilstHyGenikxisnotanozonegenerator,averysmallvolumeofozoneisreleasedasaby-productofthe
combinationoftechnologiesused.Thisuniquecombinationoftechnologiesisguaranteedtobothachieveresults
andbecompletelysafeinoperation.Ineverycasetheozonelevelspresentfallwellbelowthelowest
internationalsafetylevelsworldwide(WorldHealthOrganization-0.05ppm),asstipulatedbyEUOTA.Thishas
beenverifiedforallunitvariationswithindependentlaboratorytestingcarriedoutby“Odournet”.
Weallbreatheozone,everydayofourlife,infactwhatweperceivetobefreshairisapproximately0.013ppm
ofozone.
Iftherewasathunderstormnaturewouldproducebetween0.3/0.05ppmwhichgivesusthatnicefreshsmell
thatfollows.
Ozone(O3)isaformofoxygen.Itisacolourlessgaswithadistinctiveodourandisanormalconstituentofthe
earth’satmosphere.Itisabout1.6timesheavierthanair(density2.144g/I).Ozoneisproducednaturallyfrom
oxygenwheneversufficientultraviolet(UV)radiationorelectricaldischargesoccur,forexampleathighaltitudes
orbytheactionoflightning.Suchnaturaloccurrencesareunlikelytoproducehazardousconcentrationsat
groundlevel.Themajorityofozonefoundneargroundlevelisformedbyphotochemicalreactionsinvolving

Unitsmustalwaysbeverticallyinstalledwiththelogoandcableatthetopoftheunit.Thebottomoftheunit
shouldbeataminimumheightof1.8mAFFL.Airiscirculatedthroughouttheareaviathermalconvectionand
incorrectinstallationwillreduceperformance.Pleasefollowenclosedinstructions.RefertoChapters5and6.
9.4.11Wheredoyouinstallaunit?
Locatingtheunitclosetoextractionsystemsoropenwindowswillvastlyreduceperformanceassanitisingairwill
bepreventedfromcirculatingcorrectly.Alwaysbeconsciousofmovementofairthroughouttheroom.Location
closetoincomingventilation(airinput)willassistairfromtheunitincirculatingthroughouttheenvironment.
Avoidinstallingdirectlywithinacookingzonewherelevelsofheatandgreaseareelevated.
Inareasofloweraircirculation,installingtheunitascloseasispracticaltothestrongodour,orcontamination
source,isrecommended(i.e.nexttofoodstorageincoldstore,abovepreparationareasinkitchen,nexttourinals
ortoiletsinawashroomorabovelockerareasinchangingroom).Airfromtheunitwilldispersethroughout,but
thisallowsthekeyareastobetreatedfirst.
9.4.12 Whyaretheredifferentunitvariationsandlampoptions?
Onesizedoesnotfitall.Wesupplyseveralproductvariationstoensurethebestresultsineachenvironmentand
areasize(awashroompresentsaverydifferentchallengetoacoldstore).Anythinginafoodenvironmentmustbe
“foodsafe”sounitsfortheseareashaveaspecialistfoodsafesheathforthelamp.
Differentunitsaresetupfordifferentenvironmentsandtheiranticipatedbacterialevelsandoutputsvary.
Itisimportanttounderstandthatunitsneedtobesuitablysizedtoensurecorrectoperation.Ifyouareunsure

9.4.13 Whatdothenumbersandcodesrefertoontheunit?
Forthefoodservicemodelsthenumbersrepresentthesquaremeteragetheunitissetupfor,(lengthxwidth-
heightisnotincludedinthiscalculationasthesanitisingairwillfalltogroundlevelwherethehighest
contaminationispresent).
“W”or“T”issimplyacolourchoiceoptionourWhiteorTitaniumfinishtobestsuityourpersonalpreference.
“F”indicatesaproductsuitableforafoodsafeenvironmentasthelampissheathed(shatterproof).
“S”isastandardgeneraluseproductsuitableformostareas,includingwashroomsandchangingrooms.
Standardlampsarenotshatterproof.
“R”isrefuse,ahigheroutputvariationforareaswithstrongodours.“R”versionsshouldnotbeusedinareasof
generaloccupation.
“O”isamodelforuseinconstantlyoccupiedareassuchasofficeswithlowventilationandairmovement.
9.4.14 Howoftendothebatteryandlampneedtobechanged?
