Thepurposeoftherangelimitingdevice
Therangelimitingdevicecanbeinstalledonexcavatorsandonlatticecranes.Itpreventstheriskof
collisions between the machine and an obstacle such as power lines. The range limiting device is
however not a power line detector. It analyses the position of the machine in relation with pre‐
registeredobstaclesplacedinapre‐determinatezone.
Therangelimitingdeviceisnotasecuritydevice.Itwon’tavoidaccidentswithouttheinterventionof
the operator. The range limiting device must be programmed adequately in order to be useful. The
rangelimitingdeviceisacontrolsystemthatprovidesinformationtotheoperatoraboutthedistance
betweentheexcavatorandtheobstacles.Theoperatorhastheresponsibilitytoprogramtheposition
oftheobstaclesinthedevice.Theefficiencyofthesystemdependsonhisvigilance.
Thesystemwillgivepreciseindications.Witharealtimecontinuousupdate,itwillassisttheoperator
bygivinghimvisual andaudiblewarningsabout theproximityof obstaclesaroundthemachine.The
operatorwillbewarnedandwillbeabletoreactbeforeanaccidentoccurs.Thepurposeofthissystem
istoavoidhumanmistakeswhichcancausemanysevereaccidents.
Application
TherangelimitingdeviceMEGA6000hasbeendesignedforexcavatorsonly.Itcanbeinstalledonany
typesofexcavatorsfromanybrand.Thisuserguidereferstotheuseoftherangelimitingdeviceon
excavators.ContactMegaRobotiqueinordertohaveauserguideaboutanothertypeofuse.
Howdoestherangelimitingdevicework?
TherangelimitingdeviceMEGA6000isdesignedtoprogramaheightlimitandarotationlimit(left,
right).Sixtypesoflimitscanbeprogrammedwiththisdevice.
1. Fixedheighton360°
2. Freezone(twowalls)
3. Heightlimit(betweentwowalls)+Anotherfreezone
4. Variableheightlimitwithtwowalls

Theheightlimitisalimitonthemaximumangleoftheboom.Itisalsoa360°fixedheightlimit.

Thefreerotationzonedoesnothaveanyheightlimit.Itislimitedbytwosidewalls.Theboomcannot
gobeyondthesewalls.

Toprogramafreerotationzone:
1. Usethe«up»or«down»arrowstohighlight«FREEZONE».

2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.
3. Bringtheboominsidetheworkingarea.
4. Rotatetheboomtowardsthefirstwallandpressthe«MEGA»button.
5. Movetheboomintheworkingareatowardsthesecondwallandpressthe«MEGA»button.
6. A ten seconds countdown allows you to replace the boom between the two walls (working
area).
Atthispoint,themachinewillblockwhenoneofthewallsisreachedwhileperformingarotation.
3. Heightlimit(betweentwowalls)+Anotherfreezone:
It is possible to program a height limit under the power lines and a free zone (with no height limit)
wheretheexcavator loads the truck. Here’sanexampleofa practicaluse of thislimit: an excavator
digsatrenchnearpowerlinesandhastoputthematerialinatruck.
Toprogramsuchalimit:
1. Usethe«up»or«down»arrowstounderlinethe«HEIGHTLIMIT+FREEZONE».

2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.
3. Firstyouneedtoprogramaheightlimitunderthepowerlines.Raisethestickandthebucketat
theirhighestposition.Thenraisetheboomtothehighestandsafestpositionunderthepower
lines.
4. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmthepositionoftheheightlimit.
5. Rotatetheboomtowardsthefreezone(thezonewithoutaheightlimit)
6. Press the «MEGA» button to confirm
theposition of thefirst wallof thefree
zone.
7. Rotatetheboomtowardsthesecond
wall and press the «MEGA» button to
confirmitsposition.
8. Atensecondscountdownallowsyoutoreplacetheboomintheworkingarea.
Atthispoint,itwillbepossibletoloadthetruckinthefreezonewithoutthecontrolsblockingandyou
willhaveaheightlimitintheotherzone.
4. Variableheightlimitwithtwowalls:
Avariablelimitisaheightlimitthatcanvaryaccordingtotheboompositionontherotation(variable
heightlimit).Accordingtothegeneralshapeoftheobstacle,youmayneedalimitatacertainheightin
aspecificplace,andanotherheightsomewhereelse.
Toprogramavariableheightlimit:
1. Usethe«up»or«down»arrowstounderlinetheline«VARIABLEHEIGHTLIMIT».

2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.
3. Rotatetheexcavatortotheleftorrightofthewantedwalloftheworkingarea.Raisethestick
andthebucketattheirhighestposition,andthenadjusttheboomtothedesiredheightlimit.
4. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmthepositionoftheheightlimitandthepositionofthefirst
wall.
5. Rotatetheexcavatorandboomdowninordertoavoidanysurroundingobstacles(powerlines
or other) until you reach the other end of the working area (2nd wall). You can change the
heightlimitduringthisoperation.Pressthe«MEGA»buttontofinishtheprogrammingofthe
variableheightlimit.
6. Atensecondscountdownallowsyoutoreplacetheboomintheworkingarea.
At this point, the access will be blocked everywhere there hasn’tbeenarotationprogrammed.Side
wallswillbeautomaticallycreatedattheleftandrightendoftheworkingarea.
WARNINGSOFTHEMEGA6000RANGELIMITINGDEVICE
When the excavator comes near about 5 feet of the height limit programmed, the approach
warninglightflashesandthebuzzersoundsonandoff1.
Whentheexcavatorcomeswithin3°oftherightorleftlimit,theapproachwarninglightflashes
andthebuzzersoundsonandoff2.

theselimits.

Ifyoureachoneofthetwolimits,thewarninglightflashesandthebuzzersoundscontinuously.
Thestopvalveisalsoactivatedandtheexcavatorwillblock.
Tounjamtheexcavator,pressthe«MEGA»buttonandatensecondscountdownwillallowyou
togetbacktoyoursafeworkingarea.
Itisimportanttoresetthelimitsandreprogramthesystemevery
timetheexcavatorhasmovedtoworksomewhereelse.

Garantie:
MEGAsystemshaveaoneyearwarrantyfromtheinstallationdate.Alldefectiveparts(manufacturing
defaults)willberepairedorchangedbyMEGAROBOTIQUE.Thecustomermustpaytransportationand
handlingfeestoreturnthedefectiveparttoourplant.
