Thepurposeoftherangelimitingdevice

Therangelimitingdevicecanbeinstalledonexcavatorsandonlatticecranes.Itpreventstheriskof
collisions between the machine and an obstacle such as power lines. The range limiting device is
however not a power line detector. It analyses the position of the machine in relation with pre‐
registeredobstaclesplacedinapre‐determinatezone.

Therangelimitingdeviceisnotasecuritydevice.Itwon’tavoidaccidentswithouttheinterventionof
the operator. The range limiting device must be programmed adequately in order to be useful. The
rangelimitingdeviceisacontrolsystemthatprovidesinformationtotheoperatoraboutthedistance
betweentheexcavatorandtheobstacles.Theoperatorhastheresponsibilitytoprogramtheposition
oftheobstaclesinthedevice.Theefficiencyofthesystemdependsonhisvigilance.

Thesystemwillgivepreciseindications.Witharealtimecontinuousupdate,itwillassisttheoperator
bygivinghimvisual andaudiblewarningsabout theproximityof obstaclesaroundthemachine.The
operatorwillbewarnedandwillbeabletoreactbeforeanaccidentoccurs.Thepurposeofthissystem
istoavoidhumanmistakeswhichcancausemanysevereaccidents.


Application

TherangelimitingdeviceMEGA6000hasbeendesignedforexcavatorsonly.Itcanbeinstalledonany
typesofexcavatorsfromanybrand.Thisuserguidereferstotheuseoftherangelimitingdeviceon
excavators.ContactMegaRobotiqueinordertohaveauserguideaboutanothertypeofuse.

Howdoestherangelimitingdevicework?

TherangelimitingdeviceMEGA6000isdesignedtoprogramaheightlimitandarotationlimit(left,
right).Sixtypesoflimitscanbeprogrammedwiththisdevice.
1. Fixedheighton360°
2. Freezone(twowalls)
3. Heightlimit(betweentwowalls)+Anotherfreezone
4. Variableheightlimitwithtwowalls





1. Fixedheighton360°

Theheightlimitisalimitonthemaximumangleoftheboom.Itisalsoa360°fixedheightlimit.

Thefreerotationzonedoesnothaveanyheightlimit.Itislimitedbytwosidewalls.Theboomcannot
gobeyondthesewalls.


2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.

3. Bringtheboominsidetheworkingarea.

4. Rotatetheboomtowardsthefirstwallandpressthe«MEGA»button.

5. Movetheboomintheworkingareatowardsthesecondwallandpressthe«MEGA»button.


6. A ten seconds countdown allows you to replace the boom between the two walls (working
area).


Atthispoint,themachinewillblockwhenoneofthewallsisreachedwhileperformingarotation.




3. Heightlimit(betweentwowalls)+Anotherfreezone:

It is possible to program a height limit under the power lines and a free zone (with no height limit)
wheretheexcavator loads the truck. Here’sanexampleofa practicaluse of thislimit: an excavator
digsatrenchnearpowerlinesandhastoputthematerialinatruck.

Toprogramsuchalimit:

1. Usethe«up»or«down»arrowstounderlinethe«HEIGHTLIMIT+FREEZONE».


2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.



3. Firstyouneedtoprogramaheightlimitunderthepowerlines.Raisethestickandthebucketat
theirhighestposition.Thenraisetheboomtothehighestandsafestpositionunderthepower
lines.

4. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmthepositionoftheheightlimit.


5. Rotatetheboomtowardsthefreezone(thezonewithoutaheightlimit)

6. Press the «MEGA» button to confirm
theposition of thefirst wallof thefree
zone.

7. Rotatetheboomtowardsthesecond
wall and press the «MEGA» button to
confirmitsposition.



8. Atensecondscountdownallowsyoutoreplacetheboomintheworkingarea.

Atthispoint,itwillbepossibletoloadthetruckinthefreezonewithoutthecontrolsblockingandyou
willhaveaheightlimitintheotherzone.




4. Variableheightlimitwithtwowalls:


Avariablelimitisaheightlimitthatcanvaryaccordingtotheboompositionontherotation(variable
heightlimit).Accordingtothegeneralshapeoftheobstacle,youmayneedalimitatacertainheightin
aspecificplace,andanotherheightsomewhereelse.


Toprogramavariableheightlimit:

1. Usethe«up»or«down»arrowstounderlinetheline«VARIABLEHEIGHTLIMIT».


2. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmyourchoice.


3. Rotatetheexcavatortotheleftorrightofthewantedwalloftheworkingarea.Raisethestick
andthebucketattheirhighestposition,andthenadjusttheboomtothedesiredheightlimit.

4. Pressthe«MEGA»buttontoconfirmthepositionoftheheightlimitandthepositionofthefirst
wall.


5. Rotatetheexcavatorandboomdowninordertoavoidanysurroundingobstacles(powerlines
or other) until you reach the other end of the working area (2nd wall). You can change the
heightlimitduringthisoperation.Pressthe«MEGA»buttontofinishtheprogrammingofthe
variableheightlimit.

6. Atensecondscountdownallowsyoutoreplacetheboomintheworkingarea.


At this point, the access will be blocked everywhere there hasn’tbeenarotationprogrammed.Side
wallswillbeautomaticallycreatedattheleftandrightendoftheworkingarea.

