Introduction
1. Introduction
This instruction manual contains information regarding the correct use and handling of the
Megger LA-KIT Lamp Adaptors. Please ensure to consult the section “Safety warnings and
standards” that contains information regarding your personal safety when using the product.
Read the ensuing safety regulations attentively before using this device.
1.1 Product description
The Megger LA-KIT provides the user with 5 separate lamp socket adaptors, to allow
electrical test equipment to be connected to the circuit via industry standard 4 mm sockets,
for measurement and test purposes, without the need to disturb the circuit wiring or lamp
housing.

2. Safety Warnings and Standards
These safety warnings must be read and understood before the instrument is used. Retain
for future reference. To ensure safe operation and service of the lamp adaptors, follow these
instructions. Failure to observe warnings can result in severe INJURY or DEATH.
2.1 Warnings, Cautions and Notes
This user guide follows the internationally recognised definition. These instructions must be
adhered to at all times.
Description
WARNING : Indicates a potentially dangerous situation which, if ignored, could
lead to death, serious injury or health problems.
ATTENTION : Indicates a dangerous situation which, if ignored, could lead to
injuries or health problems.
CAUTION : Indicates a situation which could lead to damage of the equipment
or environment
NOTE : Indicates important instructions to be followed to perform the relevant
process safely and efficiently.
2.2 Safety warnings
The adaptors must be in good order, clean and dry, with no broken or cracked insulation.
Verify the integrity of the adaptors and any test leads before use
The adaptors MUST NOT be used if any part of it is damaged.
DO NOT use in wet conditions.
This product is not intrinsically safe. DO NOT use in an explosive atmosphere.
Take precautions to ensure that terminals will not be short-circuited.
Connect only suitably rated leads and test equipment to the adaptors..
These adaptors are to provide measurement connections for test equipment only. They
MUST NOT be used as a mains adaptor to provide power for other equipment
DO NOT use the adaptors for mains load testing.
DO NOT leave any adaptor connected to the lamp socket when testing is complete.
The protection provided by the adaptors may be impaired if they are not used in a
manner specified by the manufacturer.
DO NOT dismantle the adaptors – there are no serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing
to Megger.
Use caution with voltages above 30 Vac rms, 42 Vac peak, or 60 Vdc. These voltages
pose a shock hazard.
DO NOT USE the test leads if they appear damaged or the internal white insulation layer
is exposed

ATTENTION : DO NOT USE the test leads in any environment above their maximum
category rating
2.2.1 Installation category definitions:
CAT IV - Measurement category IV: Equipment connected between the origin of the low-
voltage mains supply and distribution panel.
CAT III -Measurement category III: Equipment connected between the distribution panel and
electrical outlets.
CAT II - Measurement category II: Equipment connected between the electrical outlets and
user’s equipment.
Measurement equipment may be safely connected to circuits at the marked rating or lower.
The connection rating is that of the lowest rated component in the measurement circuit.
CAUTION : Phase and neutral (Red and Black) cannot be marked on the B22, B15 and
GU10 adaptors due to geometry of these sockets. Phase and neutral can be identified
by using a suitable tester.
NOTE : The adaptors must only be used by suitable trained and competent persons

3. Operation
1. Isolate the supply to the circuit to be tested.
2. Remove the lamp from the socket
3. Select the appropriate lamp adaptor and insert into the socket
4. Phase and neutral are only identified on the E27 and E14 adaptors
CAUTION : Phase and neutral (Red and Black) cannot be marked on the B22, B15 and
GU10 adaptors due to geometry of these sockets. Phase and neutral can be identified
by using a suitable tester.
5. Connect the test leads to the test equipment being used BEFORE connecting to the lamp
adaptor. Ensure phase and neutral connection is correct on the E27 and E14 adaptors.
6. Re-energise the circuit, if applicable and execute the test. De-energise the circuit once
testing is complete.
7. Remove the test leads from the adaptor before the test equipment
8. Remove the adaptor from the socket
9. Replace the lamp
10. Turn the supply back on.

5. Maintenance
Do not attempt to repair the lamp adaptors. They are sealed units and have no user serviceable
parts.
5.1 Cleaning
Disconnect the adaptors from any socket and remove all test leads before cleaning.
Wipe the surface on the adaptors with a damp cloth and mild detergent. DO NOT use abrasives
or solvents.
Ensure the adaptors are dry and free of any moisture before use

6.1 Return procedure
WARNING : Remove the battery cells before shipping.
UK and USA Service Centres
1. When an instrument requires recalibration, or in the event of a repair being necessary,
a Returns Authorisation (RA) number must first be obtained from one of the addresses
shown above. The following information is to be provided to enable the Service
Department to prepare in advance for receipt of your instrument and to provide the best
possible service to you:
Model (for example, LA KIT).
Serial number (found on the display under settings, device information, or on the rear
cover and by the batteries or on the calibration certificate).
Reason for return (for example, calibration required, or repair).
Details of the fault if the instrument is to be repaired.
2. Make a note of the RA number. A returns label can be emailed or faxed to you if required.
3. Pack the instrument carefully to prevent damage in transit.
4. Before the instrument is sent to Megger, freight paid, make sure that the returns label is
attached or that the RA number is clearly marked on the outside of the package and on
any correspondence. Copies of the original purchase invoice and packing note should
be sent simultaneously by airmail to expedite clearance through customs. In the case of
instruments which require repair outside the warranty period, an immediate quotation can
be provided when obtaining the RA number.

7. Decommissioning
7.1 WEEE Directive
The crossed out wheeled bin symbol placed on Megger products is a reminder not to dispose
of the product at the end of its life with general waste.
Megger is registered in the UK as a Producer of Electrical and Electronic Equipment. The
Registration No is
WEE/ HE0146QT.
For further information about disposal of the product consult your local Megger company or
distributor or visit your local Megger website.
7.2 Battery disposal
The crossed out wheeled bin symbol placed on a battery is a reminder not to dispose of
batteries with general waste when they reach the end of their usable life.
For disposal of batteries in other parts of the EU contact your local Megger branch or
distributor.
