Data Transfer and Storage Solution
System Compatibility:
Memorex ThumbDrivemay be used with any computer with a USB 1.1 port that meets the following
operating systems:
• PC Requirements—
Windows98, Windows98 SE (Second Edition),
WindowsMe, Windows2000, or WindowsXP**
(Driver Installation not required for Windows  Me & above)
• Macintosh Requirements—
Mac OS 8.6 or higher**
The MemorexThumbDriveis designed for standard applications such as for office and personal
computing applications. It is not designed for use in special applications to which the failure or malfunction
of products may directly jeopardize life or harm of the human body.
* Windows98 may have problems with more than 1 USB device connected. See Notes.
** For Systems using ME / 2000 / XP or Mac OS 8.6 or higher, installation of the product does not require any additional software. These
operating Systems are designed with PLUG-N-PLAY capabilities.

Your MemorexThumbDriveshould include:
1. MemorexThumbDrive
2. ThumbDrive installation CD-ROM (for Windows
 98 and 98 SE only. Windows  ME, 2000, XP and MAC
OS 8.6 or higher already have the proper drivers in the operating system.)

Please notify your distributor or retailer if any of the above is missing.
WINDOWS98/98 SE DRIVER INSTALLATION*
1. Turn on your computer and wait for the Windowsdesktop to appear on your screen.
2. Close any applications you may have running.
3. Insert the MemorexThumbDriveinstallation CD into your CD-ROM drive. The driver installation
procedure is automatic, as a dialogue box will pop up (Figure 1) to give you the option to install the
drivers. The dialogue box will also give you the option to Remove your drivers or Cancel the installation
as well if these actions are required.
4. Select “Install”, and the drivers will be loaded onto your computer.
NOTE: If your computer’s CD-ROM drive is not set up for automatic disc detection go to Step 6.

5. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation that the drivers have been successfully transferred to your
system. (Figure 2). Remove the installation CD from the drive and click “OK” to reboot your computer. Your
MemorexUSB ThumbDrive is now ready to use.

If your computer does not automatically run the Driver Install disk, you will need to
conduct this process manually.

6. Click “Start” on your menu screen, and then select “Run...” Click on the “Browse…” button in the
dialogue box that opens and select the CD-ROM drive into which you placed the installation CD.
7. The file “Msetup.exe” will appear in the dialogue box (Figure 3). Double click on the Msetup icon, and
the CD will install the correct drivers for the MemorexUSB ThumbDrive.

8. Follow the onscreen directions as listed in step 1 and as shown in Figure 1 by clicking on the “Install”
button.
9. Remove the installation CD from the drive and click “OK” to reboot your computer. Your Memorex
USB ThumbDrive is now ready to use.
Once your computer reboots, you can verify that Windows recognizes the Memorex
ThumbDrive.
• Bring your computer screen to the desktop view and double click on “My Computer.” The Memorex
ThumbDriveshould appear as a “Removable Disk” icon (as in Drive E in Figure 4 below.) The actual
drive letter assigned to your ThumbDrivemay vary.

NOTES:
1. Multiple USB devices plugged into a computer using the Windows98 operating system may run into
some problems. Windows98 SE resolved these types of conflicts.
2. When a MemorexThumbDriveis inserted into a USB port (Figure 5), it is configured as if it were a
removable hard disc drive. You can use the same “drag-and-drop” methods to read and write files to
the ThumbDrive, as you would to a hard drive or a floppy disk.

3. As with any removable storage medium, removing the MemorexThumbDrivewhile data are being
written or transferred may corrupt the files or erase the entire content on the drive. Always wait for the
green LED to stop blinking to indicate when the data transferring operation is complete.
WINDOWSME, 2000, XP DRIVE MEMOREX THUMBDRIVEINSTALLATION
For installation of the Memorex ThumbDrive on systems using Windows ME, 2000, or XP, no driver installation
is required. Simply install your ThumbDrive into any available USB port on your computer and the system will
automatically recognize the installed device.
ADDITIONAL DRIVE OPERATION NOTES
Write Protect Switch:
The MemorexThumbDriveincludes a switch that will prevent any data writing or accidental erasure of
critical files. At the end of the ThumbDrivethere is a little switch that can be moved to the left, under the icon
of a padlock, to prevent adding or eliminating any data.
LED Status Indicator
GREEN LED - When lit, your MemorexThumbDriveis powered, recognized by your computer
FLASHING GREEN LED - When the status light is flashing, your MemorexThumbDriveis reading data from
or writing data to the ThumbDrive. NOTE: Removal of your drive during this operation may cause a loss of data
or your data to be corrupted and is not recommended.
REMOVING YOUR THUMBDRIVE
When removing your MemorexThumbDrive, it is always recommended that you “eject” your drive by either
using the Unplug or EJECT HARDWARE icon located in your system tray. The system tray is typically located
in the lower right corner of your desktop. Once located, you can elect to STOP USB DISK after left clicking the
ICON in the system tray.
You can also select the ThumbDrive thru the drive listing under MY COMPUTER. Once the drive is located,
right click on your ThumbDrive, and select the Eject from the drop down menu.

FOR WINDOWS 98 & 98SE, simply removing your drive from the USB port or USB cable connector performs
ejecting or removing your drive. Be sure that your drive is not in the process of receiving or transferring data as
indicated by the flashing LED. Removing your drive during this process may damage or corrupt your data.

Limited 1-Year Warranty
Memorex Products warranties this product against defects in materials or workmanship for one year
from the date of purchase. This warranty applies to the original purchaser; proof of original retail
purchase is required. This warranty specifically excludes damage caused by misuse, abuse,
improper storage, or use in a commercial application. No warranty of merchantability or fitness for a
particular purpose is made. In the event of a claim against this warranty, Memorex Products’
obligation and the claimant’s sole remedy shall be replacement of the product. This warranty
specifically excludes responsibility for recorded data in any form.
FCC Certification Statement
This device complies with FCC Part 15 Class B of the FCC Rules, and is designed to provide reasonable protection against radio and
television interference. Although the equipment has been tested and has been found to comply with the allowed RF emission limits, as
specified below, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a certain situation.
