Safety
Safety of persons
Safety rules
A UPS has ts own nternal power source (the battery). Consequently, the power outlets may be energ sed even f the UPS
s d sconnected from the AC-power source.
Dangerous voltage levels are present within the UPS. It should be opened exclusively by quali ied service
personnel.
The UPS must be properly earthed. Measurements are required to ensure that the total leakage current o the UPS
and the protected equipment does not exceed 3.5 mA.
The battery supplied with the UPS contains small amounts o toxic materials. To avoid accidents, the directives
listed below must be observed:
◗ Never burn the battery (risk o explosion).
◗ Do not attempt to open the battery (the electrolyte is dangerous or the eyes and skin).
◗ Comply with all applicable regulations or the disposal o the battery.
◗ Batteries constitute a danger (electrical shock, burns). The short-circuit current may be very high. Precautions
must be taken or all handling.
Product safety
UPSs must be connected to a nearby wall outlet that s eas ly access ble.
The UPS can be d sconnected from the AC-power source by remov ng the power cord.
◗ Never nstall the UPS near l qu ds or n an excess vely damp env ronment.
◗ Never let a fore gn body penetrate ns de the UPS.
◗ Never block the vent lat on grates of the UPS.
◗ Never expose the UPS to d rect sunl ght or a source of heat.
Special precautions
The UPS connect on nstruct ons conta ned n th s manual must be followed n the nd cated order.
Check that the nd cat ons on the rat ng plate correspond to your AC-power system and to the actual electr cal consumpt on
of all the equ pment to be connected to the UPS.
If the UPS must be stored pr or to nstallat on, storage must be n a dry place.
The adm ss ble storage temperature range s -20° C to +45° C.
If the UPS rema ns de-energ sed for a long per od, we recommend that you energ se the UPS for a per od of 24 hours, at
least once every month. Th s charges the battery, thus avo d ng poss ble rrevers ble damage.
Pr or to handl ng the battery:
◗ remove all watches, r ngs, bracelets and any other metal objects;
◗ use tools w th nsulated handles.

2.3 Connection to the RS 232 or USB communications port (optional)
1 - Connect the RS 232 25 or USB 26
commun cat ons cable to the ser al port or
the USB port on the computer.
2 - Connect the other end of the

on the UPS.

2.4 Installation of the communications-card option
It s not necessary to shut down the UPS to
nstall the commun cat ons card:
1 - Remove the slot 1 cover secured by
two screws.
2 - Insert the card n the slot.
3 - Secure the card w th the two screws.

2.5 Connections
Check that the indications on the rating plate on the back o the UPS correspond to your AC-power system and to
the actual electrical consumption o all the equipment to be connected to the UPS.
1 - Remove the power cord supply ng the
equ pment to be protected. Check cord
character st cs (> 250 V, 10 A, see the
techn cal sheet).
2 - Connect the cord to the AC-power socket
7 , then to the AC-power wall outlet.
3 - Connect the protected equ pment to the
UPS us ng the two cords 24 . It s adv sed to
connect pr or ty loads to the four outlets 4
and any non-pr or ty loads to the two
programmable outlets 11 (If the UPS s
connected to a computer runn ng MGE
commun cat ons software, t s poss ble to
program the nterrupt on of power to the two
programmable outlets 11 dur ng operat on
on battery power, thus reserv ng backup
power for the pr or ty loads).
As soon as the UPS s energ sed,
the battery beg ns charg ng. E ght
hours are requ red to charge to the
full rated backup t me.

The protected equ pment connected to the UPS can be energ sed, whether AC nput power s ava lable or not.

Caut on: the AC nput power source must be present when energ s ng for
the f rst t me.
Press the ON / OFF button 23 .
The buzzer beeps and all the LEDs go ON.
The buzzer beeps tw ce, then:
- If AC nput power s ava lable, LED 21 goes ON, nd cat ng operat on
n ON-LINE mode.
- If AC nput power s not ava lable and the UPS s conf gured for
automat c restart mode, the buzzer beeps three t mes and LED 22 goes
ON, s gnall ng operat on on battery power.
All connected equipment is energised.
If LEDs 21 or 22 do not go ON or f LEDs 12 to 14 flash,
there s a fault (see sect on 4.1).
3.2 Bar raph indications
LEDs 12 to 15 provide three di erent indications:
1 - Rema n ng backup t me n percent (dur ng normal operat on).
2 - Percent load drawn by the protected equ pment, when button 16 s
pressed.
3 - Operat ng faults (flash ng LED and beeps):
12 Overload.
13 UPS fault.
14 Battery fault.
Status LEDs 18 and 19 or programmable outlets 1 and 2:
- LEDs OFF: the outlets are not suppl ed w th power.
- LEDs flash ng: status change n progress.
- LEDs ON: the outlets are suppl ed w th power.
Outlets 1 and 2 can be remotely programmed and controlled. They may
be used for sequent al start-up of the protected appl cat ons, shedd ng of
non-pr or ty appl cat ons dur ng operat on on battery power, and pr or ty
management at the end of battery backup t me to reserve the longest
poss ble backup t me for the most sens t ve appl cat ons. These outlets
are programmed us ng Solut on Pac software.

Transfer to battery power
The AC-power source s outs de tolerances, LED 23 s ON, the buzzer
beeps three t mes.
The equipment connected to the UPS is supplied by the battery.
Threshold for the low-battery warnin
The low-battery warn ng threshold can be set by the user, w th the "UPS
Dr ver" software (see sect on 3.4).
LED 22 flashes.
The buzzer beeps every three seconds.
There is very little remaining battery backup time. Close all
applications because UPS automatic shutdown is imminent.
End of backup time
The buzzer sounds cont nuously.
Press button 17 to turn the buzzer OFF.
The equipment is no longer supplied with power.
The UPS goes to sleep mode at the end of the battery backup t me unt l complete shutdown due to tr pp ng of the battery-
protect on funct on aga nst deep d scharge.
Return o AC input power:
I , in spite o the return o AC input power, the UPS does not restart, check that the automatic-restart unction
(activated by return o AC input power) has not been disabled (see section 3.4).

connected to the UPS (see sect on 2.3 Connect on to the RS 232 (or USB) commun cat ons port).
Check that the RS 232 25 or USB 26 cable is properly connected.
"UPS Dr ver" nstallat on:
1 - Insert the "UPS Dr ver" d skette n the dr ve of a PC runn ng W ndows.
2 - Select the d sk dr ve (A:\).
3 - Double-cl ck "upsdr v.exe".
Once "UPS Dr ver" has been nstalled, UPS parameters can be mod f ed n a w ndow conta n ng a number of tabs, each
present ng a set of parameters.
