Getting Started
Meet MicroBot Alert
MicroBot Alert is a tiny smart sensor that can monitor various atmospheric
variables including temperature, moisture, air pressure, light intensity, noise
level, CO2 level, organic chemicals (VOCs), and movements. Alert also sends
you push notifications containing useful information about your environment
and recommendations.
Handling. MicroBot Alert is not waterproof but it is splash resistant. Do not
submerge in water.
Power & Battery. MicroBot Alert does not have a power on/off button. Once
charged, it keeps running until the battery is empty.
Warning Instructions. Choking Hazard - MicroBot Alert contains small parts.
Not for children under 3 years old.
Alert’s Dashboard
View data details. Tap on the desired sensor to enter its detail mode and see
the data on a map or on a graph. The data displayed on the graph can be
viewed daily, monthly or yearly.
Preferred environmental data
Altitude. Reactions to altitude (headache, nausea, vomiting, palpitation,
dizziness…) vary from person to person. Some people can experience
symptoms as early as 2,500 m (8,200 ft) but symptoms appears from 4,000 m
(13,000 ft) for the majority of people.
CO2 level. Indoor CO2 is best at around 600 ~ 1,000 ppm.
Humidity. Humidity indoors is best between 40% and 60%.

Light intensity. The recommended light intensity may differ depending on the
room, the activity and the desired atmosphere. It must be adapted according to
your needs.
●Intimate, softened ambience (living room, bedroom…): 25 ~ 50 lux
●Pleasant ambience (living room, kitchen, bedroom, office): 100 ~ 150
lux
●Working condition (office, bedroom, library…): 200 ~ 250 lux
●Technical activity (office, workshop…): 350 ~ 500 lux
Sound / Noise. The harm caused by noise depends on both the volume (level)
of noise (dBA) and the duration of exposure.
●0 dBA ~ 70 dBA: noise level is relatively not harmful.
●70 dBA ~ 140 dBA: noise level is harmful. People must be careful of
the duration of exposure and the intensity. 140 dBA is the threshold of
pain.
Note:
The exposure limit to noise in office or public venues is often regulated by law. In
the US, the permissible exposure limit is is 90 dBA defined by the Department of Labor
(OSHA) for all workers for an 8 hour day. For each increase of 5 dBA, the amount of
time a person can be exposed is cut by half. For example, at 100 dBA sound level, the
permissible exposure limit is 2 hours.
Temperature. Indoor temperature is best between 18°C ~ 21°C or 65°F ~
70°F.
TVOC level. The level of TVOC must be kept as low as possible at all times.
Daily exposure to TVOC levels as low as 40 ppb caused asthma to children.
The World Health Organization recommends a concentration of formaldehyde
of 0.1 mg/m3 (1 ppb) for 30 minutes. Learn more in WHO Guidelines for Indoor
Air Quality.
Note:
The preferred environmental data mentioned above is to be taken as
recommendations only. Each preferred value should be adapted to your specific
situation.
Authorize your device
1. Download MicroBot app
MicroBot Alert is compatible with iOS and Android devices. Download the
MicroBot app for free on the Apple Store or the Google Play Store.
Requirements. Before using MicroBot Alert please make sure your device
(phone or tablet) satisfies the following requirements:
●iOS 9.0 or later. Android 6.0 or later.
●BLE (Bluetooth 4.0 or higher) is enabled.
●Location and notifications must be turned on and allowed.
2. Authorize your device
Before using MicroBot Alert, you need to authorize your device to MicroBot
Cloud.
Receive the authorization link (a.k.a Magic Link). Open the MicroBot Alert
app, enter the email address to be associated with your MicroBot Cloud. You
will receive your ‘Magic Link’ by email to authorize the requesting device.

Authorize your device. Find the email titled “Microbot Magic Link from iPhone
(or Android)” in your Inbox, tap the ‘Authorize’ button, and you will be
redirected to MicroBot Alert app to complete the authorization.
Note:
The Magic Link is valid for 3 minutes. If you don’t confirm your device within this
time, you need to restart the app and enter your email address again to receive a new
link.
Note:
If you don’t receive an email with the Magic Link within one minute or so, please
restart the app and try again. Please make sure your device is connected to Internet and
the Magic Link email isn’t in the spam box.
Initialization. Wait until the initialization is completed, then tap ‘Start’.

Powered on and unpaired (ready to be paired).
🁢🁢 Blinking Green when touched:
Paired and working.
🁢 Solid Green:
Firmware Updating.
🁢🁢 Blinking Pink :
Waiting for reconnection with the paired smartphone.
🁢 Red: Ready to reset.
Touch and hold the tactile button on top until the red light starts blinking
🁢🁢🁢🁢🁢 Blinking Red:
Reset complete. The device should now be blinking blue.
Pair MicroBot Alert with your smartphone
Requirements. Before pairing MicroBot Alert with your smartphone,
●Make sure your device’s Bluetooth is turned on in Settings > Bluetooth.
Your smartphone or tablet must support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE or
Bluetooth 4.0 or later) to scan MicroBots.
●Turn on Location and Notification in Settings > (MicroBot) Alert
●Make sure your MicroBot Alert’s LED is blinking blue.
Pair your MicroBot. Slide the screen from left to right to make the left side
menu appear and tap Then, tap again and select your MicroBot Alert
in the list.
Once selected, your MicroBot’s LED will start blinking in different colors. When
the color of LED and the color on the app matches, tap your MicroBot.

Once the pairing is complete, you can access your Alert’s dashboard.
Note:
If you see an error message during the pairing process, please make sure the
MicroBot’s LED is blinking in BLUE.
Add another MicroBot. Slide the page from left to right to make the side
menu appear, tap and follow the steps as previously noted.
Unpair & Reset MicroBot Alert
When do you need to unpair or reset MicroBot Alert?
●A MicroBot Alert can only be added to one MicroBot Cloud. If you wish
to use your MicroBot on a device that is registered on another Cloud,
you need to unpair/reset it before pairing it with the new device.
●As part of troubleshooting steps, it may be requested, at some point,
to reset your MicroBot Alert (see instructions below).
Unpair MicroBot Alert. Tap or slide from left to right to access the
left-sidebar, tap at the top and select the MicroBot you want to unpair.
Then, tap at the top.
Then, confirm that your MicroBot Alert's LED is blinking blue. If it does not blink
in blue, please reset your MicroBot.

Reset MicroBot Alert. Occasionally, you may need to reset MicroBot Alert. To
do so:
1) Plug in your Alert to the power supply;
2) When the LED starts blinking red, keep pressing the tactile button
until it blinks red rapidly. Then, wait until the LED blinks blue.
Once it’s reset successfully, you can add it to a new MicroBot Cloud.
Note:
After resetting, in the MicroBot Alert app, please make sure that your Alert does
not appear anymore in the list of paired Alert’s. If it does, please remove it following the
‘unpair’ method detailed above.
Update MicroBot Alert's Firmware
Check for available updates. On the left sidebar, view your list of registered
MicroBots. When an update is available, the icon is shown.
Update MicroBot Alert. Tap on , select ‘agree’ and wait until the update
is completed. Once completed, the update icon disappears.
CAUTION! Make sure you stay connected to your Alert during the update and
do not exit the app while the update is processing. Make sure Alert has
sufficient battery.

Range between a smartphone and MicroBot Alert
MicroBot Alert connects to a smartphone or tablet using Bluetooth Low Energy
(4.0 or BLE). The distance can vary from 30 to 230 feet or 10 to 70 meters,
depending on the smartphone's antenna performance and the environment
where the MicroBot Alert is located. If there are a lot of walls or networks the
range can be reduced. In an open space, the range can be as far as 230 feet.
Alert’s battery capacity and charging time
Charge MicroBot Alert. MicroBot Alert uses a Micro USB charger (included).
It takes around 2 hours to fully charge a MicroBot Alert.
Check the battery level. The battery level can be seen on your MicroBot
Alert's dashboard.
Battery Capacity. The battery of Alert can last up to 2 years and 4 months
when the sound and air quality sensors are turned off.
However, the battery can run out faster and have a reduced lifespan depending
on your settings:
●When the sound and air quality (CO2 & TVOC) sensors are enabled
●When the frequency to update the data is high
Use the Extended Battery Pack (optional). For extended battery life, plug
your MicroBot into the Battery Pack (purchased separately). Make sure the
Pack is charged with 4 AAA batteries.
See additional instructions below under Air Quality and Timer for tips to extend
battery life between charging.

Pressure sensor offset temperature coefficient: ±1.5 Pa/K, equiv. to ±12.6
cm at 1 °C temperature change
Temperature sensor range: operating range -40 - +185 °F (-40 - +85 °C)
Light sensor lux range: 0.045 Lux to 188,000 Lux
Accelerometer sensor range: accelerometer can be selected along the -scale
of 2g/±4g/r8g/r16g.
CO2 sensor range: 400ppm to 8192ppm
TVOC sensor range: 0ppb to 1187ppb

Settings in Alert
Change Alert’s name & background
If you use several MicroBots, changing the name and background picture may
be useful to differentiate them easily. Name your MicroBot Alert according to its
placement (e.g. “Baby Room”), or just give it a nickname as you wish!
Change the name. Tap at the top right corner to enter your Alert’s
settings, type the preferred name in the name field, and tap on to save.
Then, tap to exit the settings and come back to your Alert’s dashboard.
Change the background. Tap at the top right corner to enter your
Alert’s settings, tap and select whether you wish to take a picture or
choose one from the gallery. Then, take/choose a picture, crop and add as
background.
Note:
Changing the background is a feature temporarily unavailable.
Sharing options
About sharing data. Enabling sharing options will allow other Alert users to
see your Alert’s data when using either the graph of a sensor or Alert World
(see below).
Sharing data. Tap at the top right corner to enter your Alert’s settings
and find ‘Permissions’. Turn on ‘Permissions’ and choose which data you wish
to share.

Access Alert World. Alert World maps the data collected by Alerts when the
sharing option is turned on. Swipe to the left menu bar and, at the bottom, tap
on Alert World. On the toolbar, select the data you wish to view.
Monitor Air Quality
Alert measures your air quality with these two sensors:
●CO2 sensor
●TVOC sensor (total volatile organic compound)
By default, these sensors are disabled as they consume a lot of energy, thus
causing the battery to run out faster. The battery run-time depends on the
settings you’ve chosen.
Measuring air quality. Tap at the top right corner to enter your Alert’s
settings and find ‘Air Quality’. Turn on ‘Air quality’, go back to the dashboard by
tapping on the 3 dots again and wait until the sensor completes its initialization.

Option to always measure air quality. By default, the air quality data is
measured only when your Alert is immobile. To measure the air quality while in
movement, please enable the option ‘Always measure air quality’.
Note:
When the option ‘Always measure air quality’ is enabled, the battery will run out
even faster.
Unit of measurement
For the temperature and altitude, it is possible to choose the unit of
measurement between Metric (°C, meter) and Imperial (°F, foot).
Set the unit. Tap at the top right corner to enter your Alert’s settings
and find ‘Unit’. Select your preferred unit and tap on the 3 dots again to come
back to your Alert’s dashboard.
Set Timer
It is possible to set the time frequency to which Alert detects and updates the
atmospheric data. By default, the data is set to be updated every 30 seconds if
immobile (i.e. steady) or every 10 seconds if it is moving.
Set timer. Tap at the top right corner to enter your Alert’s settings, find
‘Timer’ and enter the preferred time frequency to have your data refreshed.
Then, tap on to save and on the 3 dots again to come back to your
Alert’s dashboard.
Note:
The higher the frequency is, the faster the battery runs out.

Basics
Quick check
It is possible to view the data detected by Alert without having to enter the
MicroBot Alert app. You can check the data from a push notification.
Use Quick Check. Press your Alert’s tactile button and you will receive a
notification on your smartphone summing up all the data measured by Alert.

Set up conditions
1. Notification Condition
The Notification Condition feature enables you to automatically receive push
messages on your smartphones when specific conditions that you have defined
are met.
Set conditions. Tap on the desired parameter (e.g. Temperature) to enter its
detail mode and find ‘Notification Condition’. Then, select the desired level (if
relevant), choose ‘Above’ or ‘Below’ (‘Move’ or Stalled’).
Once a condition is set for a given parameter, the icon appears on the
dashboard.
2. Set up automation rules (using webhooks)
Webhooks are a great tool to integrate smart devices and web services with
each other and build automation rules. Alert supports both Incoming hook and
Outgoing hook. For example, you can integrate your MicroBot Push with
MicroBot Alert using webhooks.
Requirements.
●The device or web service you want to integrate must support
webhooks.
●If it does not support webhooks, use IFTTT's Webhooks service
(Maker). You will need an IFTTT account.
Using Outgoing hook
Principle. If the condition you’ve set using the Condition Notification feature is
met, Alert posts an HTTP request (outgoing hook) to the other device or
service.
For example, if MicroBot Alert detects that the light intensity is below 5 lux, MicroBot
Push turns on the light.
Get the webhook URL. Find your smart device's or web service's incoming
hook URL, copy it and go to the MicroBot Alert app.
Set the condition. tap on the desired parameter (temperature…) to enter its
detail mode, and set the Notification condition. See above for more details.
Set outgoing hook. Tap on ‘Outgoing hook’, paste the URL (incoming hook)
that you retrieved from another service or smart device, and tap on to
save. An action on your smart device or web service will be triggered when
MicroBot Alert detects a preset condition.
Note:
A condition must be set using the ‘Notification Condition’ feature before using
outgoing hooks.

Using Incoming hook
Principle. If a specific event occurs, it will trigger MicroBot Alert. The action
triggered depends on the type of incoming hook chosen for the automation.
Types of incoming webhooks. There are 2 different incoming hooks available
for MicroBot Alert:
●Measure: MicroBot Alert measures the atmospheric data
●Reveal: MicroBot Alert’s LED will blink in different colors to enable you
to spot it.
Access incoming hooks. Tap at the top right corner to enter your
Alert’s settings, find and tap on ‘Incoming hook’. The URLs of Alert’s incoming
hooks appear.
Use incoming hooks. Tap 'Use' to copy the incoming hook URL of your
choice and paste it in the webhook settings of the smart device or web service
you wish to integrate. MicroBot Alert will be triggered when a particular event
occurs.
3. Sound
In addition to the Push notification, it is possible to get a sound alert if the
condition you have set is met.
Set sound alert. Turn on ‘Sound’, choose your preferred sound alert and exit
the detail mode.

Monitor Alert remotely with hubs
It is necessary to add a Hub in order to monitor MicroBot Alert remotely
(outside of the Bluetooth range). This Hub acts as a bridge between your
MicroBots and MicroBot Cloud.
An additional iOS or Android smartphone or tablet (namely Soft Hub) or a
MicroBot Hub (purchased separately) can be used as a Hub.
1. Remote control using MicroBot Hub
MicroBot Hub is the companion hub of the MicroBots that connects the
MicroBots to MicroBot Cloud. MicroBot Alert can be controlled remotely
anytime via 3G/4G/WiFi when it is connected to a MicroBot Hub.
Requirements:
●You need a MicroBot Hub and a smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS)
with MicroBot Alert app installed and the device authenticated.
●Your MicroBot Hub must always be connected to the WiFi network and
within Bluetooth range of your MicroBot. If it is offline or if it is out of
range, the connection with MicroBot Alert will be lost and remote
control will not be possible.
Add a Hub. Power your MicroBot Hub and follow the instructions to set it up.
Monitor your MicroBot remotely. Place your MicroBot Hub within the
Bluetooth range from your MicroBot and view your MicroBot Alert’s dashboard.
2. Remote control using Soft Hub
When a smartphone or tablet is used as a Hub, the remote control is achieved
as follows: your MicroBot Alert is connected to one smartphone or tablet
(Device B) via Bluetooth that will act as a hub and you monitor and control your
MicroBot remotely using another device (Device A) from anywhere via
3G/4G/WiFi.
Requirements:
●You need two devices; a smartphone and/or tablet (Android or iOS).
●Make sure that you’ve downloaded MicroBot Alert app and authorized
both devices using the same email address in order to register both of
them in the same MicroBot Cloud.
●The device that will stay close to MicroBot Alert must not be powered
off, otherwise, the connection with MicroBot Alert will be lost. However,
the connection is maintained even if the device is in ‘Locked screen’
mode.
Authorize a second device (Soft Hub). Download MicroBot Alert app on
your new device and authorize it using the same email address as your first
device.

Once the authorization process is completed, verify that all your MicroBots
appear in the left side menu of the newly authorized device.
Note:
Make sure you use the
same email address
to register all your devices to the
same MicroBot Cloud, otherwise, you won't be able to control your MicroBots using all
these devices. The number of devices you can authorize per email account may depend
on your subscription plan.
Control your MicroBot remotely. Place your Soft Hub close to your
MicroBot (within the Bluetooth range). Use your second device (smartphone or
tablet) to view your MicroBot Alert’s dashboard!
Works With
Works with other MicroBots
MicroBot Alert can be integrated with other MicroBots using webhooks.
Webhooks are a great tool to integrate smart devices and web services with
each other and build automation rules.
Automate MicroBot Alert & MicroBot Push
Principle. When a certain environmental condition detected by Alert is met,
MicroBot Push is triggered.
Ex 1. When MicroBot Alert detects that the temperature reaches a given level, MicroBot
Push turns on the air conditioner.
Ex 2. When MicroBot Alert detects that the humidity drops below a given level, MicroBot
Push turns on the humidifier.
Ex. 3. When Alert detects a VOC level higher than 50 ppm, MicroBot Push turns on the
air purifier.
Set the conditions. In the MicroBot Alert app, tap on the TVOC sensor to
enter the detail mode and set the condition to “50 ppm / above”. See “Set
conditions”
Get the outgoing hook. In the MicroBot Push app, tap to access your
Push's settings, find 'Webhook' in the list of features and tap . Then, select
the webhook you wish among ‘Press’, ‘Pull’ or ‘Release’ (depending on the
action MicroBot Push should complete) and tap ‘Use’ to copy it.

Note:
For Alert, the MicroBot Push’s URL is an outgoing hook because Alert will post it.
However, for MicroBot Push, this URL is an incoming hook.
Build the integration. In the MicroBot Alert app, tap on the TVOC sensor to
enter the detail mode and find the ‘Outgoing hook’ option. Then, paste your
Push’s URL and tap to save. Done!
Control MicroBot Alert with IFTTT
IFTTT ("If This Then That") is a 3rd party automation provider that connects
numerous smart devices and web services together. Using IFTTT, you can
integrate your MicroBot with any device or service available on the platform and
create automation workflows to make your home (or office) smart.
Connect MicroBot Alert & IFTTT
To use MicroBot Alert with IFTTT, you need to enable the MicroBot Alert
service on IFTTT.
Requirements:
●A smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) with the MicroBot Alert app
installed and the device authenticated. See
Authorize your device
●An IFTTT account and the IFTTT app installed on your device
●Your MicroBot Alert must be paired and connected to a Soft Hub
(phone, tablet) or MicroBot Hub.
Connect MicroBot Alert’s service. In the IFTTT app, search for 'MicroBot
Alert’, tap on and select 'Connect'.

Get started with IFTTT
Principle. To set up an automation workflow, you need to create an applet. An
applet is composed of a trigger (This) and an action (That) and follows the logic
'If this, then that'.
1. Create an applet
Create an applet. Go to 'My Applets' and tap on . Then, select the
service and the event for your trigger ('this') and repeat the same for the action
('that').
Available triggers. Each service has its own pre-defined set of triggers and
actions. The triggers available for MicroBot Alert are:
●Drops blow / rises above triggers for each sensor
●Start moving / Stop moving
●MicroBot is online / offline
●Button is pressed
Available action. The action available for MicroBot Alert is ‘Locate MicroBot’.
2. Use an existing applet
We've already created a set of applets for you to use. Other users may also
share their own applets in the IFTTT platform.
Search for applets. In the IFTTT platform, use the search bar to discover
applets or go to the page of MicroBot Alert service to view all the applets that
were created using MicroBot Alert.

Use a predefined applet. Select the applet, tap on 'Turn on' and fill in the
required information. Then, save.
Example: Integrate MicroBot Alert & MicroBot Push
In addition to webhooks, it is possible to integrate MicroBot Alert with MicroBot
Push using IFTTT.

Objective. When the light intensity detected by Alert is too low, MicroBot Push
turns on the light.
Requirements:
●The MicroBot Alert service and the MicroBot Push service must be
connected
●MicroBot Push and MicroBot Alert must be connected
●MicroBot Push must be placed on your light’s switch
Build the trigger. In the IFTTT app, tap on to create a new applet,
choose , and select 'MicroBot Alert' as the service. Then, select
'Light intensity drop below' as the trigger, choose your MicroBot Alert and set
the desired threshold.
Build the action. Tap on , select 'MicroBot Push' and select the
action that must be done by Push. Then, select your MicroBot Push and tap on
'Create action'.
Note:
The action that must be completed by MicroBot Push must be chosen according
to your installation. The following actions are available: Toggle MicroBot, Pull MicroBot,
Push and hold MicroBot, Press MicroBot for a specified duration.
