HARDWARE NSTALLAT ON
Be certain to follow standard anti-static procedures when handling any of Midian’s products.
Use the enclosed atching cables with RJ45 type connectors to plug into the VAE-10. The other ends can be
connected to the appropriate type of radio connector using the pin-out and color codes shown below. See
connector pin-out in the chart below.
Midian offers several pre- ade cables for plug and play operation for certain radios. Contact sales for further
infor ation.
J1: This is the Power input to the unit when using the supplied wall power adaptor. Otherwise power can be
supplied to the unit fro the radio via J3-6 (12-18 VDC)
Midian reco ends using the power fro the radio, or fro our AC adaptor. Use of any other power source ay
void the warranty.
J3-1: Emergency nput (Brown): Connect this to an output in the equip ent giving a relay closure to the VAE-10
for e ergency alar reporting. When progra ed for an active low
the voltage level to be required for a logic low
is less than 0.8 V. When progra ed for an active high the voltage level to be required for a logic high is at least
2.1 V and up to +12 VDC.
J3-2: External Enable (Blue): Future Use.
J3-3: Mic audio (White): Connect to the MIC-High in the base station radio.
J3-4: Ground (Black): Connect to ground in the base station radio.
J3-5: COR nput (Red): Connect to a point in the radio’s squelch or CTCSS circuit that changes logic level when
a carrier is detected. The unit defaults to look for an active low.
J3-6: External Power (Green): Connect to a 13-18 VDC source in the base station radio. Power can also be
supplied using the included wall adaptor (13-18 VDC). Midian reco ends using the power fro the radio, or
fro our AC adaptor. Use of any other power source ay void the warranty.
J3-7: PTT Output (Yellow): This open collector provides a ground during PTT. Connect this to the PTT of the
base station radio.
J3-8: Speaker – (Violet): Not used.
J3-9: Speaker + or Single Ended Speaker High (Orange): Not used.
J3-10: Trunking Delay (Gray): Connect this to a point in the base station that gives a change of state when a
channel is acquired. The unit defaults to look for an active low.
J4: Microphone nput: Plug the supplied speaker icrophone into port J4.
