Important: This downdraft extractor must not be used in
combination with a gas cooktop.
A damaged appliance is dangerous. Check it for any visible
damage. Never install or attempt to use a damaged appliance.
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed
when continuity is complete between it and an effective earthing
system. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is
present and tested regularly and, where there is any doubt, the
household wiring system should be inspected by a qualified
electrician.

Warning and Safety instructions
5
Reliable and safe operation of this downdraft extractor can only
be assured if it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.
Before connecting the appliance to the mains supply, make sure
that the rating on the data plate (voltage and frequency) corresponds
to that of the household supply.
This data must correspond in order to avoid risk of damage to the
appliance. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.
Do not connect the downdraft extractor to the mains electrical
supply by a multi-socket adapter or extension lead. These are a fire
hazard and do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.
For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used after it has
been built in.
This downdraft extractor must not be installed and operated in
mobile installations (e.g. on a ship).
Touching or tampering with electrical connections or components
and mechanical parts is highly dangerous to the user and can cause
operational faults.
Only open the housing as described in the installation instructions
and in the Cleaning and care section of this booklet. Under no
circumstances should any other parts of the housing be opened.
The manufacturer's warranty will be invalidated if the appliance is
not repaired by a Miele approved service technician.
Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele spare
parts. The manufacturer can only guarantee the safety of the
appliance when Miele replacement parts are used.
If the mains connection cable is damaged, it must only be
replaced by a Miele authorised service technician or suitably
qualified electrician in order to avoid a hazard.
During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliance
must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply. It is only
completely isolated from the electricity supply when:

Warning and Safety instructions
6
– the mains circuit breaker has been switched off, or
– the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is
applicable), or
– it is switched off at the wall socket and the plug is withdrawn from
the socket. Do not pull the mains connection cable but the mains
plug to disconnect your appliance from the mains electricity
supply.

Warning and Safety instructions
7
Using at the same time as other heating appliances that depend on the air
from the room
Warning - danger of toxic fumes!
Great care should be taken when using the downdraft extractor at
the same time and in the same room or area of the house as
another heating appliance which depends on the air in the room.
Such appliances include gas, oil, wood or coal-fired boilers and
heaters, continuous flow or other water heaters, gas cooktops, or
ovens which draw air in from the room and duct exhaust gases out
through a chimney or extraction ducting.
When used in extraction mode, with or without an external motor
fitted, or in recirculation mode with a recirculation box installed
outside the room, the downdraft extractor draws air in from the
room in which it is installed and from neighbouring rooms.
If there is insufficient air, an underpressure will occur. The heating
appliance will be starved of oxygen, impairing combustion.
Harmful gases could be drawn out of the chimney or extraction
ducting back into the room, with potentially fatal consequences.

Warning and Safety instructions
8
In order to ensure safe operation, and to prevent gases given off
by the heating appliances from being drawn back into the room
when the downdraft extractor and the heater are in operation
simultaneously, an underpressure in the room of 0.04 mbar (4 pa)
is the maximum permissible.
Ventilation can be maintained by air inlets which cannot be
blocked, in windows, doors or outside wall vents, or by other
technical measures, such as ensuring that the downdraft extractor
can only be switched on when the heating appliance is switched
off or vice versa. A ventilation brick alone is not generally sufficient
to ensure safe ventilation.
The overall ventilation condition of the dwelling must be taken into
account. If in any doubt, the advice of a competent builder or, for
gas, a qualified gas fitter (registered with an official gas safety
body in accordance with national safety regulations) must be
sought.
If the downdraft extractor is used in recirculation mode, where the
air is directed back into the room in which it is located, operating a
heating appliance which depends on the room air at the same time
is not hazardous.

Warning and Safety instructions
9
Correct use
Never use an open flame beside the downdraft extractor. To avoid
the danger of fire, do not flambé or grill over an open flame.
When switched on, the downdraft extractor could draw flames into
the filter. Fat deposits could ignite, presenting a fire hazard.
When cooking with oil or fat, chip pans and deep fat fryers etc.,
do not leave the pans unattended. Never leave an open grill
unattended when grilling.
Overheated oil and fat can ignite and could set the downdraft
extractor on fire.
Do not use the downdraft extractor without the filter in place. This
way you will avoid the risk of grease and dirt getting into the
appliance and hindering its smooth operation.
There is a risk of fire if cleaning is not carried out as described in
these operating instructions.
The downdraft extractor can get very hot during cooking due to
the heat from the cooktop.
Do not touch the housing or the grease filter until the downdraft
extractor has cooled down.
Do not use the downdraft extractor for resting objects on.
Do not cover the grille when in use.
Keep liquids away from the downdraft extractor.
Liquids can damage the extractor if they get into it.
Light objects can be drawn into the downdraft extractor and
impair its operation.
Do not place any light objects (e.g. paper towels) within close
proximity of the downdraft extractor.

Warning and Safety instructions
10
Correct installation
Please refer to the "Installation" section of this booklet when
fitting the downdraft extractor.
All ducting, pipework and fittings must be of non-flammable
material. These can be obtained from builders' merchants.
The appliance must not be connected to a chimney or vent flue
which is in current use for exhausting fumes from appliances burning
gas or other fuels. Neither should it be connected to ducting which
ventilates rooms with fireplaces.
If exhaust air is to be extracted into a chimney or ventilation duct
no longer used for other purposes, seek professional advice.

Warning and Safety instructions
11
Cleaning and care
Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean this appliance.
Pressurised steam could reach the electrical components and cause
a short circuit.
In areas which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or
other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the machine and its
surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which
may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered
by the machine warranty.
Accessories
Use only genuine original Miele spare parts. If spare parts or
accessories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty will be
invalidated, and Miele cannot accept liability.

Caring for the environment
12
Disposal of the packing
material
The transport and protective packing
has been selected from materials which
are environmentally friendly for
disposal, and can normally be recycled.
Recycling the packaging reduces the
use of raw materials in the
manufacturing process and also
reduces the amount of waste in landfill
sites. Ensure that any plastic
wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of
safely and kept out of the reach of
babies and young children. Danger of
suffocation.
Disposing of your old
appliance
Electrical and electronic appliances
often contain materials which, if
handled or disposed of incorrectly,
could be potentially hazardous to
human health and to the environment.
They are, however, essential for the
correct functioning of your appliance.
Therefore, please do not dispose of
your old appliance with your household
waste.
Please dispose of it at your local
community waste collection / recycling
centre.
Ensure that your old appliance presents
no danger to children while being
stored for disposal.

Description of the functions
13
Depending on the model of the
downdraft extractor, the following
options are available:
Air extraction mode
The air is drawn in and cleaned by the
grease filter and directed outside.
Recirculation mode
(DUU 1000 conversion kit required)
The air is drawn in and then cleaned by
the grease filter. It is then directed into
the recirculation box where it is also
cleaned by a charcoal filter. The
cleaned air is then recirculated back
into the kitchen.

Operation
17
Switching the fan on
For light to heavy cooking vapours,
select from power levels 1 to 3.
For short periods of strong vapours and
cooking odours, e.g. whilst searing
meat, select the B Booster setting.
Turn the dial from 0 to the required
power level.
Turn the dial back to 0 to switch the
appliance off.
Fan run-on after cooking
It is advisable to run the fan for a few
minutes after cooking has finished to
neutralise any lingering vapours and
odours in the air.

Energy saving tips
18
This downdraft extractor operates very
efficiently and economically. The
following will help you to save even
more energy when using it:
– Ensure that there is sufficient
ventilation in the kitchen when
cooking. In extraction mode if there is
insufficient air flow, the downdraft
extractor cannot operate efficiently
and this causes increased operating
noise levels.
– Always cook with the lowest possible
setting. This produces fewer cooking
vapours, so you can use a lower
downdraft extractor power level and
therefore benefit from reduced
energy consumption.
– Check the power level selected on
the downdraft extractor. A lower
power level is generally sufficient for
the majority of cooking. Only use the
Booster setting when necessary.
– When a large volume of cooking
vapours are being produced, switch
to a high power level in good time.
This is more efficient than operating
the downdraft extractor for longer to
try to capture cooking vapours which
have already been distributed
throughout the kitchen.
– Make sure that you switch the
downdraft extractor off after use.
– Clean or change the filters at regular
intervals. Heavily soiled filters reduce
performance, increase the risk of fire
and are unhygienic.

Cleaning and care
19
Before cleaning, the downdraft
extractor and the CombiSets must
be switched off and the CombiSets
need to have cooled down.
For instructions on how to clean the
CombiSet appliances, please refer to
their separate operating instructions.
Downdraft extractor housing
General
The surfaces and controls are
susceptible to scratches and
abrasion.
Please observe the following
cleaning instructions.
All external surfaces and controls can
be cleaned using warm water with a
small amount of washing-up liquid
applied with a well wrung-out soft
sponge or cloth.
After cleaning, wipe the surfaces dry
using a soft cloth.
Do not use:
– cleaning agents containing soda,
acids, chlorides or solvents,
– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g.
powder cleaners or cream cleaners
and abrasive sponges, as well as pot
scourers or sponges which have
been used previously with abrasive
cleaning agents. These will damage
the surface material.
Important for appliances with
stainless steel surfaces
Stainless steel surfaces can be
cleaned with a proprietary non-
abrasive cleaning agent designed
specifically for use on stainless steel,
e.g. Original Miele ceramic and
stainless steel cooktop cleaner.
To help prevent re-soiling, a
proprietary conditioning agent for
stainless steel (Original Miele Care
product for stainless steel) can also
be used. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions on the packaging.
Apply sparingly with a soft cloth
following the instructions on the
packaging.
Do not use a ceramic and stainless
steel cleaner or stainless steel
conditioning agent on the printing.
This would rub the printing off.
These areas should only be cleaned
with a solution of warm water and a
little washing-up liquid applied with a
soft sponge.

Cleaning and care
20
Moisture collection tray
The moisture collection tray should be
cleaned if liquids boil over or are spilled
into the grille of the downdraft extractor.
Remove and clean the grease filter as
described later in this section.
Undo the latches while holding the
moisture collection tray. Carefully
remove the tray from the housing,
making sure it is kept horizontal.
Pour away the liquid.
Clean and dry the tray.
Also clean and dry the accessible
inside of the downdraft extractor.
Reattach the moisture collection tray
to the housing, insert the grease filter
and refit the extraction grille.
Grease filter and extraction
grille
The extraction grille and the reusable
metal grease filter collect solid matter
from kitchen vapours (grease, dust etc.)
and therefore prevent soiling of the
downdraft extractor.
An oversaturated filter is a fire
hazard.
Grease filter cleaning intervals
The extraction grille and the grease filter
should be cleaned regularly (at least
every 3-4 weeks) to avoid a build-up
and hardening of grease.
Removing the extraction grille and
grease filter
Lift up the extraction grille.
Carefully lift out the grease filter and
try not to tilt it.
Pour out any liquid which has
collected at the bottom of the grease
filter.
