INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the Miller Combination Pedestal. These instructions
give you a full mounting description and short information about the main func-
tions of the Combination Pedestal Column and the range of Miller Studio Dollies.
The Combination Pedestal combines design and affordability into a flexible new
Camera Support System available from your Miller dealer.
OPERATION MANUAL
Please read this manual carefully prior to using the Combination pedestal. Do
not omit any steps.
The manual contains important set-up, camera mounting information and should
be read in conjunction with the operating manuals of the fluid head and camera
you have chosen to complement your Combination pedestal.
SET-UP
These instructions build the Combination Pedestal Column on the Miller Studio
Dolly range in the most commonly used way.
NORMAL SET-UP:
Deploy Miller Studio Dolly and rotate dolly arms to locking position. Place the•
dolly on flat surface. (Fig 2.&3.)

Peel off Miller label (if applicable) from the dolly•
centre hub to reveal the 12.5mm hole. (Fig 4.)
Remove Pedestal Column and Spider Legs from•
the packing box.
Line up Column to the dolly centre hub, insert M12•
bolt into the 12.5mm hole. (Fig 5.&6.)
Tighten the bolt but not fully with the supplied•
10mm Hexagon Key.
Align the Spider Foot on to the ball of dolly end•
(Fig 7.). Pull the Rubber Stirrup up and over the
end shoulder of Spider Foot. (Fig 8.) Repeat for the
remaining two spider legs.
Fully tighten the bolt and check that the Column is•
secure.
Raise and lock the (airless) Pedestal Column in the•
highest position using the Column Clamp Handle.
Use a High Pressure Pump and connect it to the•
Schrader Valve on the Air Pressure Block. (Fig 9.)

Using pump bring the air pressure to the desired level
depending on the camera load that is going to be used.
During detaching of the pump there is some air leaving
the system, therefore, we recommend putting extra air in
the system and let some air out when fine tuning balance
of the camera with its accessories.
Now the Combination Pedestal is set up in its standard
configuration on the Miller Studio Dolly range.

EXTENDED SET-UP (optional)
The Pedestal can be enlarged using the optional VPS-300 extension (Fig 10.). This
will extend the base height of your pedestal by 300mm.
Placing Extension:
• Removethethreelockingscrewsthatholdthecolumninthebasepieceusing
the supplied hexagon key.
• TakeofftheColumnwithspiderandlayitaside.
• Mounttheextensionyouneedusingthesamehexagonkey.
Take the Column and mount it on top of the extension.•

Loosen the Spider Clamp Ring•
with the two locking screws and let
it slide down until the spider legs
fit the ball of dolly end. Then
fasten the Spider Clamp Ring
again with both screws.

MOUNTING THE VIDEO CAMERA
• Beforemountingcamera,besurethatColumnClampHandleistightandthe
wheels are locked.
• PlacethePedestalonastableandflatfloor.
• MountyourFluidHeadonthe100mmbowl.Whenusinga75mmHeada#378
100/75 bowl adaptor is available from your Miller dealer.
• MountthecameratotheFluidHeadusingthequickreleasecameraplate.
Apply all appropriate accessories to the camera up to the maximum of 30kg
total load (camera, head & accessories together). Refer to the Operator’s
Manual of the Fluid Head.
• IfnecessaryusethePumptoincreasepressuretotheairsystemorusethe
Set Knob to decrease the pressure. Use the complete vertical stroke of the
Pedestal Column to test what is the ideal situation.
• Iftoomuchairpressureisappliedthesafetyvalvewillopenandairwill
escape from the system to prevent it from being overloaded.

LOW SET-UP ON DOLLY (Fig 11.)
• RemovethethreelockingscrewsthatholdtheBowlUnitontheinsidecolumn
using the supplied hexagon key.
• TakeofftheBowlUnitandlayitaside.
• Removethethreelockingscrewsthatholdthecolumninthebasepieceusing
the supplied hexagon key.
• TakeofftheColumnwithspiderandlayitaside.
• Mount,ifnecessarytheextensionyouneedusingthesamehexagonkey.Fix
them firmly but do not use too much force for there is a chance of damaging
the tool or the screws.
• TaketheBowlunitandmountitontopoftheextensionordirectlytotheBase
Piece of the Dolly.
• AspeciallowsetupispossibleusingonlytheBowlunit,placingitonitsrub-
ber feet on the ground or a table (Fig 12.).

The Miller Studio Dolly range has all the strength and smooth flowing dolly
movesrequiredforstudioapplications.TheMillerStudioDollyrangehasrein-
forced centre hub with collapsible box tubing arms. New, smooth action castors
ensure the Miller Studio Dolly range offers sturdy, smooth support under all
Miller ENG and HD tripods.
Miller Combination Pedestal can be set up on the Miller Sudio Dolly range
available with #480, #481 and #483.
