Connecting to a
external PC using USB

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

Unlike with most regular Android
smartphones and tablets, when you want
to exchange files or data between your
A545/A546-series, F740-series and an
external PC using USB, you will have to
temporality switch the device modem
interface from USB to UART. In order to do
this, you will first have to enable
‘Developer options’. Please go to ‘Settings’
> ‘About Phone/Tablet’ > Tap on ‘Build
number’ seven (7) times. Once successful,
you will read the message “You are now a
developer!”.

Step 2: Switch USB to UART (Modem Interface)

Go back to ‘Settings’, where you will
now find ‘Developer options’ as a
menu option. Open ‘Developer
options’ > ‘Modem Interface’ > Switch
from ‘USB’ to ‘UART (for debug only).
Proceed to restart the device in
order for the change to take effect.
Once rebooted, you can connect your
device to a external computer via USB
(you may have to swipe down the
notification centre, and tap on ‘USB
for charging’ > change to ‘File
transfers’.

Please note: For optimal performance and DL/UL speeds whilst using 4G/LTE, it is highly recommended
to switch back ‘Modem Interface’ from UART (for debug only) to ‘USB’. Otherwise, you may find data
throughput is very limited and may not meet your 4G/LTE requirements.

Disable ‘Developer options’

If you wish to disable ‘Developer options’,
please follow these steps:
Open Settings.
Under the heading ‘Device’, go to
‘Apps’.
Scroll down until you see ‘Settings’ and
open this window.
Tap on ‘Storage’ and choose ‘Clear
Data’ > ‘OK’.
