Placement!of!Your!Loudspeakers.!
The! two! most! significant! factors! influencing! the! sound! of! your! loudspeakers! are! the! source! and!
amplification!components! you! use!them! with!and! the!positioning!of!the! loudspeakers!within!your!
listening!environment.!
Getting!the!best!sound!from!your!listening!environment!will!usually!involve!compromises!due!to!the!
placement! of! sofas,! tables! and! other! furnishings! in! your! listening! room.! ! However! the! following!
describes!the!ideal!location!of!your!loudspeakers.!!
For!stereo!systems,!you!are!likely!to!achieve!the!best!sound!from!your!loudspeakers!by!placing!them!
2.0! –! 3.0!m! apart! and! approximately! 0.25! m! from! your! chosen! rear! wall.!Your! listening! position!
should!ideally!be!2.5!–!3.0!m!away!from!each!speaker.!!
For! surround! sound! systems! the! fronts! should! be! placed! in! the! same! position! as! described! above!
and!with!the!centre!speaker!placed!directly!between!them.!The!rears!should!be!placed!behind!you!
and!ideally!in!similar!positions!relative!to!the!wall!behind!you.!!!
Typically,! if! loudspeakers! are! placed! too! close!to! walls! the! bass! will! increase! but! may!become!
‘boomy’.!If!the!loudspeakers!are!placed!further!away!from!walls,!the!bass!will!be!less!prominent.!You!
can! experiment! with! your! loudspeakers! in! different! positions! and! with! different! music! until! you!
achieve!your!favoured!sound.!
Choosing!Cables!
Specialist!audio!cable!usually!offers!better!performance!than!general!purpose!‘bell’!or!‘zip’!wire.!!
Wiring!Your!Loudspeakers!
Your!loudspeakers!are!bi!wire!models!which!means!that!there!are!four!terminals!on!the!back!of!the!
speakers,!two!coded!red!(+)!and!two!coded!black!(U).!Your!speaker!cables!will!be!coded!positive!(+)!
and!negative!(U)!and!should!be!connected!to!the!corresponding!terminals!on!your!loudspeakers.!!!
Using!Spikes!
Your! floor! standing!speakers! are! supplied! with!spikes! which! can! be! attached! to! the! underside! of!
them.!These!spikes!should!be!used!to!achieve!the!best!sound.!The!spikes!can!be!screwed!into!place!
by!hand.!!
