ment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and
used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio com-
munications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a partic-
ular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television
reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is
encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
* Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
* Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
* Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the
receiver is connected.
* Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Features
(1) Wavit11 is a stand-alone wireless LAN with 10BASE-T interface.
(2) When using Wavit11, not only can the wireless network be connected to
personal computers, but also to printers and other network equipment with
a 10BASE-T port. Since Wavit11 is connected to networks via a 10BASE-T
cable, there is no need to install device drivers to set it up.
(3) Wavit11 operates as an access point that can support up to 16 Wavit11s.
Also, it operates as a wireless bridge. A wireless bridge connects two net-
works that are physically separated by two Wavit11s.

How to Use Wavit11
(1) Select wireless LAN network type according to the intended use of
Wavit11.
(2) Install Wavit11 Configuration Utility in the personal computer. (page 8)
(3) Set up Wavit11 with the Wavit11 Configuration Utility. (page 17)
(4) When using an encryption, set up the encryption mode. (page 33)

45About Wireless LAN Network
There are 4 types of wireless LAN networks that use Wavit11.
Make a selection according to the usage of the wireless LAN network.
About Wireless LAN Network
Wavit11 User’s Manual
Wireless LAN Type Function
Ad-Hoc LAN The network consists of only wireless clients.
IBSS LAN The network consists of only wireless clients.
Infrastructure LAN
The network combines both wired and wireless clients.
Wireless Bridge
The network connects two networks wirelessly.

Ad Hoc LAN Type:
Full Wireless Connections between Computers
This type of network consists entirely of wireless LAN units, such as the
Wavit11. This type is recommended for configuring a network that includes only
the stations shown below.
1. Printer connected to Wavit11
2. Computer with wireless LAN card installed
3. Computer connected to Wavit11
Ad Hoc LAN Type
6/47
5.1 IBSS LAN Type (802.11 Ad Hoc Type)— Advance Mode
An IBSS LAN is a network that consists only of wireless LAN devices. This net-
work cannot be used to communicate with an Ethernet backbone or an exter-
nal network such as the Internet.

Wavit11 User’s Manual
NOTE:
(1) This type cannot be used to connect to a wired LAN.
(2) This type cannot be used to connect to the Internet.
(3) When wireless LAN units are set in the Ad Hoc mode, they cannot
communicate with an unit set in Access Point mode.
(4) In this type, there is no restriction on the number of connected wireless
LAN units.
NOTE:
(1) In contrast to the Ad Hoc LAN, the IBSS LAN supports communications
between Wavit11 devices as long as the SS IDs match. However, the
intended use of the IBSS LAN is similar to that of the Ad Hoc LAN.
(2) In IBSS LANs, there is no restriction on the number of connected wire
less LAN units.

Infrastructure LAN Type:
Wireless Connection between a Computer and a Wired LAN
This type is recommended for configuring a network to connect to an existing
wired LAN, or to access the Internet or a printer via a wireless LAN.
The wireless LAN consists of stations and access points.
Stations: These are computers and/or printers that are equipped with wireless
LAN devices (such as a Wavit11 unit or wireless LAN card).
Access points: Access points are units used to connect wireless and wired
LANs.
Set the Wavit11’s mode according to how it will be used.
If using this as an access point: set the Access Point mode.
If using this as a station: set the Infrastructure mode.

5.3 Wireless Bridge Type:
Wireless connection between two wired LANs
Build this network type to set up a wireless connection between two wired
LANs. A pair of Wavit11 units can be used to establish two-way communica-
tions between two separate LANs.

NOTE:
(1) When connecting a Wavit11 unit to a printer, the printer must have a net-
work adapter installed or it must use a print server. (In the diagram
shown above, a laptop equipped with a wireless LAN card is able to use
the printer via an access point.)
(2) Up to 16 computers can be connected in the Infrastructure mode.
NOTE:
(1) Communication from another station or access point to a Wavit11 unit
that has been set to wired LAN mode is not possible.
(2) Up to 16 computers can be connected to each wired LAN.
(3) Limited functionality and/or connection difficulties may occur in some
cases.
