CAUTION!
This product requires extreme caution at all times. DeSauw
component saws are designed to safely produce the proper
cuts on truss members. Safety devices are installed at the
factory and should not be removed for any reason. The
DeSauw operates on 3-phase, 480-volt electricity. All
external electrical panels and controls are protected, but
access to inner workings should be restricted to authorized
personnel only. DeSauws also use many power
transmission devices that expose pinch points and moving
parts that can cause injury. These areas are protected with
electronic and mechanical devices that should always be
kept in proper working condition. All DeSauw models use
high-speed carbide tipped saw blades. This system does
generate a noisy, dusty, and dangerous environment. The
saw should never be started unless all personnel are clear of
the area. Proper procedures should be established for
routine maintenance and employee activity around the saw.
This manual should be read in full by anyone authorized to
operate the saw. If any further questions exist feel free to
call Customer Service at…

Careful attention has been given to the operation of the machines described in
this manual. Please follow proper safety procedures and develop good
maintenance habits.
4

CAUTION!
Disconnect Main Power supply before performing any
maintenance activities!
Please read before operating this saw!
Since the component saws uses an air brake system to stop blade rotation, it is
very important that the air system be inspected daily to insure it is functioning
properly. The components of the air brake system include: an inlet filter, dryer,
regulator/filter, reservoir, two pressure switches, and a valve. All of these
components need to be checked for leaks and malfunctions. If the braking
system malfunctions in any way, shut the machine down immediately and resolve
the problem.
AIR SYSTEM MAINTENANCE:
Inspect all brake pads weekly for wear. It is important that the pads not
wear into the blade.
Air line filter must be inspected weekly for contaminants. One filter is
located where the inlet air is hooked up, the other in the box connected to
the regulator. Change when necessary.
Maintain 30 psi throughout the entire air system. (Maximum pressure
should not exceed 35 psi.)
Check for leaks in the air system daily. Without proper air pressure, the
brakes are not as effective.
During the first few months of ownership, it is recommended that the air brakes
be inspected extensively since shipping of the unit may have caused hoses and
components to leak. IN ORDER TO HAVE AN EFFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEM,
REPAIR ANY LEAKS IMMEDIATELY!
DO NOT ADJUST REGULATOR OR PRESSURE SWITCHES WITHOUT FIRST
NOTIFYING MONET DESAUW TECHNICIANS.

GENERAL WARNINGS
During the manufacturing of this saw, every step has been taken to ensure safe operation.
However, the best way to avoid accidents is to exercise caution at all times.
6

Read this manual carefully before starting, using, carrying out maintenance or performing
any other type of operation on the saw.
The time spent reading this manual will allow you to get to know your saw, thereby
saving time and effort. This will also help prevent accidents from taking place.
Read all the safety decals on the machine and follow the instructions thereon before
starting, operating, or carrying out maintenance on the machine. Promptly replace any
decals that are damaged, lost or illegible. Clean the decals is they are covered by debris.
Do not wear loose clothing that may be trapped in moving parts.
Avoid using the saw in unsuitable physical conditions.
Before starting the blades, always check that the area is free of persons or obstacles.
SAFET DECALS
The safety decals on the following pages are positioned on your saw in the locations
shown in the pictures below.
These safety decals are important both for your safety and that of personnel working with
you.
We recommend that you study these pages and find the positions of the safety decals on
the saw, checking that their meanings are clear.
Keep the safety decals clean and legible. If damaged, order replacements from MDI

Safety Devices
DeSauws are equipped with many forms of safety devices to protect not only the
user but also to protect the saw itself from accidental damage. There are two
forms of protection devices on the FWA-500, one is automatic controlled and the
other is a manual input device controlled by the user.
Automatic Safety Devices
Motor Drives
technician for assistance. DO NOT attempt to change parameters in drive without
consulting a qualified technician.
Motor Starter Overloads
A contacting motor starter controls any motor that is not controlled
by a variable frequency motor drive. The contacting motor starter is
protected from over current and voltage spikes by an overload
located below the starter contact. If the overload is “tripped”, then
pushing a reset button can reset the starter. When the overload
controls a 5 or 10 horsepower blade motor, the starter can be reset by
pushing the red button in the lower/middle section of the overload.
Any other starter can be reset by
pushing the round blue button on
the bottom right side of the overload.
DO NOT turn the reset button when it
is pushed, and make sure the button
returns to its full outward position.
10
These drives have the capability of protecting themselves
from voltage spikes and over-torque detection. Shutting off
the power for approximately 10 seconds can reset the drive.
If the problem recurs after restoring power, the user should
go to the faulting drive in the main electrical panel and read
the fault code displayed on the drive (if drive is OK the
display should read “Rdy”). When fault code is determined,
user should contact Monet DeSauw
WARNING!
ACCESS TO MAIN ELECTRICAL PANELS
SHOULD BE LIMITED ONLY TO QUALIFIED
PERSONNEL. THE VOLTAGE WITHIN SHOULD
BE CONSIDERED LETHAL AND CAN CAUSE

Air-Bra e System
The DeSauws use a
pneumatic braking system to
stop the spinning of saw
blades. The braking system
requires a minimum of 40lbs.
of pressure to operate. If the
system is provided with the
minimum pressure
requirement, the emergency
stop system will be activated
and no motors will be
allowed to operate. The air
brake system will also be
activated if the system loses
pressure due to a cut line or
hose.

Manual Safety Devices
Emergency Stop Buttons
The FWA-500 is equipped with a momentary stop
button located on fixed end Panel. When activated,
these buttons will stop the entire system of motors and
activate the air brake system to halt spinning of
saw blade # .
Emergency Pull Cable
The Emergency Pull Cable is located on the catch-side of
the saw. The pull stop is activated by pulling the steel
cable in any direction causing a full stop of all motion
within the saw. Pressing the blue button in the center of
the pull mechanism on the fixed end of the saw can reset
the E-Stop. The stop switch will not operate without the
proper tension on the cable or if there is too much tension on the cable. The
tension can be adjusted via the turnbuckle located on the end of the cable. Pulling
and resetting the switch until a distinct “click” is heard with each action can
establish the proper tension.
