GlassReinforcedPlastic(GRP) isusedthroughouttheconstructionofthehulland
decks.Hullstiffeningisachievedusingbalsaorfoam
stiffeners
mouldedtothe
insideofthehullandbythefittingofbulkheads.Eachbulkheadisbondedin
positionusing
GRP
andthenfurthersecuredwithboltsthroughthe
GRP
bonding.
AninnerGRP flooralsoaddstothestrengthandstabilityofthehull.Extra
strengtheningisalsoappliedtothekeelattachmentareainordertowithstandthe
loadsimposedonthekeel.Deckareasaresurfacedwithanintegrallymouldednon
slipfinish.

Seacocksarefittedtoallinletsandoutletswhichpenetratethehullbelowthe
waterline.Thehullareaaroundthepenetrationpointisreinforcedwithaninternal
plywoodbackingplatewhichisresincoatedandbeddedoncompound.Withthe
exceptionoftheenginecoolingsysteminlet,allcurrentMoodyyachtsarefitted
witha ballvalvecombinedwitha skinfitting.

Cathodic protection
Allyachtsarefittedwithhullmountedsacrificialanodesasthesegivethebest
results.Theseareusuallymounted
in
theregionoftheenginecompartment
to
keep
thebondingcableruntoa minimum.
Attachment
Thisisachievedbyusingstudspermanentlyfixedtotheinsideofthehulltowhich
theanodeissecuredusingnutsandlockingwashers.
Bonding
Bondingcablesareinternallyattachedtothemountingstuds.Theanodeisbonded
totheengine,sterntube,rudderstockand
T'
bracket.Thereisnorequirementfor
themoreremoteskinfittingsandseacocksorthekeelmountingboltstobe
protected.

Using the windlass
Itisrecommendedthatyouranchorchainissuitablymarkedtoindicatethe
amountofchainyouhaveoutwhileatanchor.
Whenlyingatanchorina heavyswellthechainwillsnatcheithercausingchainslip
orexcessiveloadstobeappliedtothewindlass.Forsafetyitisrecommendedthat
aropebridlebeappliedtotransfertheloadtoa cleat.

Maintenance
Hull
Minorscratchesandabrasionsshouldbeattendedtointheirearlystages,initially
byusinga mediumgraderubbingcompound.Ifthisisineffective,rubthearea
lightlywith400gradewetanddrypaper(usedwithwater)untilthemark
disappears.Smooththeareawith800gradefollowedby1200grade(bothwet)and
thenapplya siliconefreewaxpolish.
Stresscracksshouldbelookedatbyanexpertandsomeremedialactiontaken.
fRubbing with abrasive compounds and materials removes the
gelcoat.
As this is only a thin
*layer, great care should be taken.
Annual cleaning
Washthehullannuallywithwarmwatercontaininga littledetergent.Stubborn
stainsandpolishshouldberemovedwitha recommendedreleaseagentoroil
removingfluid.Polishthehullwitha siliconefreewaxpolish.

Theanodeshouldbereplacedwhenitisapproximatelytwothirdseroded.Ifany
doubtexistsastowhethertheanodewillsurvivetheseason- changeit!Thecore
oftheanodeisa galvanisedsteelstripwhichprovidestheattachmentlugsforthe
anode.Theanodeisremovedbyundoingthetwosecuringnutsandwashers.Itis
recommendedthatwhenreplacingtheanode,thenuts,washersandbackingsheet
arealsoreplaced.

Antifouling______________________________________
Antifouling
shouldbecheckedona regularbasisandreplacedatleastoncea
season.
The
antifouling
used
on
your
yacht
is

Dustandgritshouldberemovedfrequentlywitha softbrushortheupholstery
attachmentofa vacuumcleaner.
Creases
Wherecreasesoccur,raisethepilebybrushingwitha clean,dampcloth.Donot
saturatethefabricasthecottonbackingmayshrink.Whendry,brushinthe
directionofthepilewitha softbrush.
Stains
Takeimmediateaction,thelongerstainsareleftthemoredifficultitistoremove
them.Nearlyallstainscanberemovedbysponginglightlywithwarmwaterora dry
foamupholsteryshampoo.Ifthisisnoteffective,coverscanberemovedanddry
cleaned.Ifheavilystaineditisrecommendedthata reputableupholsterycleaner
iscalledin.
