Installation Instructions: FAT Strap
Kir
Tools Required:
15mm wrench or pedal wrench
Phillips Screwdriver (for removal of old
hardware)
Smm Wrench or Crescent wrench (for removal
of old hardware)
WARNING: The use of any bicycle pedal system
entails a degree of risk.
The margin of safety is enhanced by reading and
following all instructions.
NOTE:
If you intend to use these Power Grips on the road,
make sure your pedals have reflectors on them. If
your pedals do not have reflectors, contact the pedal
manufacture or your local bike shop to get
reflectors.
Before installing your new FAT Straps, make sure your pedals are
compatible with the FAT Straps. Pedals should have a slot on
either side of the pedal spindle, and this slot should allow the slim
straps (the separate 20mm wide shaps with double sided Velcro),
to pass through each side of the pedal.(See image 1)
It is the same to install the FAT straps while pedals are installed
on the bike, as it is to install on the pedals when the pedals are
removed. We find it to be easier to install FAT straps with the
pedals removed from your bike. Remove your old pedals from
your bike using a 15mm wrench or pedal wrench. Mark which
pedal is right and left, so not to install FAT Straps backwards.
Then proceed to remove any existing toe clips and straps already
on your pedals. Ifyour pedals are used, inspect pedals for any
damage or wear that may cause failure of the pedal.
Lay out the straps on a table so you can read the Power Grips
label (if you were on the bike). This is to orient the right and Ieft
strap. Unfold the Slirn straps from the top strap and stretch out
flat. Lay the right pedal on the left side of the right strap, with the
treaded spindle facilg the two slim straps. Do the same for the
left.
Take right side strap, and slide the slim straps through the slots in
each side of the right side pedal. Do this from the threaded side of
the pedal (see image 2). Pull the slim straps all the way through
the pedal, so the Velcro is completely exposed, and the pedal is in
the center of the FAT strap (see image 3). Repeat for left pedal
and strap.
Flip both pedals over so the Power Grips logo is facing down.
Now separate the top and bottom of the FAT strap (see image 4)'
Then fold the bottom strap (soft Velcro) over to the opposite side
of the pedal, where the two slim straps are exposed. Center the
bottom of the FAT strap, between the two slim straps, and on the
top edge of the pedal. Now take the two slim straps and fold them
over the bottom FAT strap, creating a X (see image 5). Press them
down firmly, engaging the Velcro. With the two slim straps in a X
over the bottom strap, fold the top FAT strap over the slim straps
covering the slim straps. Press the Velcro together finnly. Repeat
steps for left pedal.
Now that your new FAT Straps are installed on your pedals, install
the pedals on the bike. You will want the pedals installed on the
bike to adjust the straps to your shoe size. NOTE: The treads on
the left pedal (as you are sitting on the bike) are reverse or left-
hand threads. The right pedal has standard threads. Also be sure to
follow recommended torque specification when tightening down
pedals.
Adjusting Your FAT Straps:
When adjusting your FAT Straps, you should be on smooth level
ground. Place your right foot in the right pedal so the ball ofyour
foot is centered on the pedal. See ifthe strap is tight or loose - you
rvant the strap snug but not so tight you tight you can't easily exit
the pedal when disrnounting your bike. Make sure you can still
easily remove your foot from the strap when you stop.

Peel back the top logo portion of the Fat strap exposing the two
slim straps. You will want to adjust the slim skaps to make the Fat
Strap tighter or looser. Peel back the slim straps and move them
right or Ieft, depending on whether you want the strap tighter or
looser. Lay the slim straps down in a X on the bottom Fat strap, in
your desired location. Fold top (logo) Fat strap over, now adjusted,
slim sffaps and press together firmly. Place your shoe back into the
pedal and see if the strap is to your desired feel. These steps may
need to be repeated many times to get the desired fit of your FAT
Straps. Repeat these steps for left pedal.
NOTE: Power Grips FAT Straps will function well only if properly
adjusted. You may have to adjust the strap length several times to
find the position that gives you the most comfortable setting.
Now your ready to ride!
IMPORTANT NOTE: After your first ride, check the tightness of
straps. They may have stretched slightly, and require a final re-
adjustment.
