SETUP GUIDE
GROWING GUIDE
Open the box and unpack all of the components. The unit contains 2 growing
‘pots’. Remove the checkered plastic covers, and the white foam inserts. The
cover comes off easiest if you put your finger into one of the holes to pull it off. Be
careful not to spill the vermiculite in the pots!
Return the checkered plastic covers onto the pots but discard the foam inserts.
Open your seed sachets and sow a few seeds onto the vermiculite in each pot.
Small seeds like Basil will easily slip between the vermiculite, but bigger seeds like
Coriander may need your help so make sure they get covered with a very fine
layer of vermiculite (2-5mm)
Fill the water container under the pots with water up to the fill level
indicated and put the pots back into the unit.
Insert the grow light at the end of the pot. Plug the power cord into the
HydroGarden unit and the plug into the main power. (AC 240V).
Turn on the grow light by pressing the button at the end of the light.
Press twice so the red light turns on as well - this red light will assist
in seed germination, root growth, and bulb development, as well as
promoting fruit production and flowering down the track. Turn the lights
off at night.
The light has a timer option which allows the light to turn off by itself at the end of the day. To set the timer press
the light button for longer until a small blue light appears underneath. This way the light will stay on for 16
hours and then turn itself off automatically and then turn itself back on again after 8 hours.
Then just leave the plants to grow! The unit has an inbuilt water level indicator, so it will alert you when a refill
of water is required.
Vermiculite has no nutritional value to feed your plants so you need to add a bit of fertiliser in the water. A
week after germination has occurred add 1 ml of the provided Seasol® and 1 ml of PowerFeed® into the
reservoir. Repeat at each refill of water until harvest.
When the plants are 7-8cm tall, snip off the growing tip of the Basil for bushier habit, and keep snipping
leaves when the new growth is big enough. Adjust the height of the grow light as your plants grow by tilting it
up.
When the plants start to turn woody or stop producing fresh leaves, it’s time to pull them out and start again.
Discard the plant and root system and clean the growing containers as well as the water tank thoroughly. Refill
the growing containers with fresh vermiculite (available at any well stocked garden retailer), and sow new
seeds.
The HydroGarden is suitable for growing almost any short growing flower, vegetable or herb seeds. Just
make sure their growing habit is below 50cm to fit under the Grow Light. For ideas on what to grow go to our
website - www.mrfothergills.com.au
GUARANTEE - Please note our seeds come with a growing guarantee - if they don't grow for whatever reason, we will replace them.

THE IDEAL GROWING POSITION FOR HYDROGARDEN IS
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
On a sturdy, level and water-tolerant surface.
Near a standard electrical outlet.
Away from children or pets.
Away from direct source of heat (e.g. a stove) or cold draft during Winter.
Far enough from wash basin or sink to avoid it falling in water.
Away from direct sunlight, but ideally not in complete darkness either. Allowing some natural light in
addition to provided light source is beneficial.
Note that ideal temperature for the plants to grow is 16-26° Celsius, so during Summer heat move
them to a cooler part of the house, and during Winter chill into a warmer location. The light provided is
LED so it does not provide heat, only light.
Only connect the HydroGraden in indoor areas to a properly installed AC 240V socket with an
appropriate safety switch. Any piggyback plug or ordinary plug should be fitted with the appropriate
safety switch.
Fully unwind extension cords before use as they may overheat. Ensure that you don't stack plugs, it
can overload the power point and cause a fire.
USER MAINTENANCE
Doing electrical work yourself can be dangerous. People have been killed doing electrical work
unsafely. By law any electrical installation work myst be done by a licensed electrician. They must test
the work and give you a uniquely numbered Certificate of Compliance Electrical Work to show it has
been tested and ensure it complies with the regulations.
DO NOT SUBMERGE
Do not immerse the cord or any of the electrical equipment in water or other liquid, and unplug the
cord from any electrical outlet when not in use. If liquid spills onto the HydroGarden, unplug it and
have it checked before using again.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
Never touch the mains plug with damp hands. Never pull the mains plug out of the socket by the
mains cord, always do so by taking hold of the mains plug. Always switch the unit off and pull the
mains plug out of the socket when you are not using the HydroGarden, cleaning it or in the event of a
fault. Disconnect power before servicing or replacing lights. Only use the HydroGarden as described
in this user manual. Any other use is deemed improper and may result in damage to property or even
personal injury. The HydroGarden is not a children’s toy and children using it must be supervised by
an adult at all times. Always treat a 'tingle' or slight shock as a warning. Never touch an appliance
which causes a 'tingle' or shock until it is repaired by an approved repairer.
FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
The HydroGarden is not intended for commercial use and is for domestic and personal use only.
Mr Fothergill's Seeds Pty Ltd takes no liability for damage caused by improper or incorrect use.
