This chapter tells you howtoinstalltheCPU,memorymodules, and expansion cards, as well ashowto
setup the jumperson themainboard. It alsoprovidestheinstructionson connectingtheperipheral
devices, suchasthe mouse,keyboard, etc.Whiledoingthe installation, be carefulinholdingthe
components and followthe installation procedures.
Central Processing Unit: CPU
The mainboard supportsAMD Athlon64 processor.The mainboard usesaCPUsocketcalled
Socket-754 for easyCPUinstallation.Whenyou are installingtheCPU, makesure the CPUhasaheat
sink andacoolingfanattachedonthe toptoprevent overheating.If you do not havetheheatsink and
cooling fan,contactyour dealer topurchaseand install thembefore turning on the computer.

CPU Installation Procedures forSocket754
1.Pleaseturn off thepower and unplug the power cord before installingthe CPU.
2.Pull the lever sidewaysaway fromthe socket.Makesure toraisethe lever up toa90-degree angle.

3.Lookfor the goldarrow.The goldarrowshouldpointtowardsthe leverpivot. The CPUcan onlyfitin
the correctorientation.
4.If the CPUiscorrectlyinstalled,thepinsshouldbe completelyembedded intothe socketand can
not be seen.Pleasenotethat any violation ofthecorrect installationproceduresmay cause
permanentdamagestoyour mainboard.
5.Pressthe CPUdownfirmlyintothesocket and closethe lever.AstheCPUislikelytomovewhile
the lever isbeing closed,alwaysclosethe lever withyour fingerspressing tightly on top ofthe CPU
tomakesure the CPUisproperly and completelyembedded intothesocket.
Installing AMDAthlon64 CPU CoolerSet
As processor technologypushestofaster speedsand higher performance,thermalmanagement
becomesincreasinglyimportant.Todissipateheat,you need toattachthe CPUcooling fan and heat
sinkon top oftheCPU.FollowtheinstructionsbelowtoinstalltheHeat sinkand Fan:
1.Detachthe shieldofthe back plate’spaster.
2.Turn over the mainboard, andinstall theback platetotheproper position.
3.Turn over the mainboard again,and placethe mainboard on the flatsurface.Locatethe two
screwholes ofthe mainboard.
4.Align the retention mechanismandthe backplate.Fixthe retention mechanismand the back
platewithtwoscrews.
5.Position the cooling setontothe retention mechanism.Hook oneend of the cliptohook first,and
then pressdownthe other end ofthecliptofasten the cooling seton the top ofthe retention
mechanism.
6.Locatethe FixLever, SafetyHook and the Fixed Bolt.Lift up the intensivefixed lever.
7.Fastendownthe lever and then makesure the safetyhookcompletelyclaspsthe fixed boltofthe
retention mechanism.
8.Attachthe CPUFancabletothe CPUfanconnector onthe mainboard.

Overheating
Overheating willseriouslydamage the CPUand system, alwaysmakesure the cooling fan can work
properly toprotectthe CPUfromoverheating.

Replacing theCPU
Whilereplacingthe CPU,alwaysturn off theATXpowersupply orunplug the power supplys power
cord fromgrounded outlet firsttoensure the safety ofCPU.
Memory
The mainboard provides2slotsfor184-pinDDR SDRAMDIMM (DoubleIn-Line MemoryModule)
modulesand supportsthe memory sizeup to2GB.You can install PC3200/DDR400,PC2700/DDR333,
or PC2100/DDR266 unbuffered DIMM moduleson the DDR DIMM slots (DDR 1~2).Plugging
memoriesinDIMM1and DIMM2makesthe systemreachtheoptimumsystemperformance.

Install at leastone DIMM moduleon the slots.EachDIMM slot supports uptoamaximumsizeof 1GB.
Users caninstalleither single-or double-sided modules tomeet theirownneeds. Pleasenotethateach
DIMM can work respectivelyforsingle-channelDDR, but there aresomeruleswhileusing DDR.
