
1. Start by folllowing the suspected path of
the pipe. Keeping the receiver in a vertical
position, move the receiver left to right across
the path – don’t
swing the receiver
(right).
As the receiver gets
closer to the
transmitter, the
audio signal will
rise, and the meter
bars will turn black.
As you move the
receiver away from
the transmitter, the
meter reading will
drop o. Adjust the
GAIN up or down to
maximize readings.

If your RL8873 Locator is not working properly,
call MyTana Support at 651-222-1738 for assistance.
If the locator is in need of repair, MyTana will provide
instructions and a Return Goods Authorization (RGA)
for returning the Locator to the service center.

3. Find the ghost signals to pinpoint the
location of the transmitter. Ghost signals will
be false peak meter spikes.
Move the receiver side to side as shown
below. Check for ghost signals in front of
and in back of the
transmitter to
conrm the
location.
uMyTana ships the RL8873
programmed to 512 Hz frequency.
If you wish to change frequencies,
or store multiple frequencies,
follow the steps below.

6. Short press the FREQUENCY Button to
toggle to the next desired
frequency, and repeat #5.
5. Select the displayed
frequency by
holding down the
FREQUENCY Button for 2+
seconds. The top of the LCD
will display the preset/
program number (1, 2, 3...)
for this frequency, and will
increase by one each time a
new frequency is selected.
If you do not want to
program more presets, skip to #7.
While Programming:
The and buttons
will switch the mode of a
frequency, if the displayed
frequency supports both
modes (see chart at right).

7. Pressing the POWER ON Button will
exit the setup menu and save the
selected frequencies for availability
during normal operation.
Available Frequencies (Note: LINE frequencies are
available only if using transmitter box--available
separately)
2. As you near the transmitter, rotate
the receiver until the PIPE ALIGNMENT
INDICATOR shows maximum signal. This will
conrm the receiver is IN LINE with the pipe.
The radiation pattern of the SONDE is shown
below. The PEAK signal is when the receiver is
held directly OVER the transmitter and IN
LINE with the pipe.
If you ever need to change your Locator from
Line mode to Sonde mode
Press and hold the POWER button, short press
the GAIN button to toggle to
Release buttons.
1. Press, and hold depressed, the
POWER ON Button.
2. Pressing the GAIN
DOWN Button will
toggle through the
receiver’s congurations.
To select or preset
frequencies beyond 512,
toggle to U3 mode.
3. Once in U3, release the
POWER ON Button. “PRO”
will be displayed at the top
of the LCD.
4. Short press the
FREQUENCY Button
to toggle to the
desired frequency.
