1 Read instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be
read before the product is operated.
2 Retain instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be
retained for future reference.
3 Heed Warnings - All warnings on the product and in the operating
instructions should be adhered to.
4 Follow Instructions - All operating and use instructions should be
followed.
5 Cleaning - Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning.
Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning.
6 Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by the
product manufacturer as they may cause hazards.
7 Water and Moisture - Do not use this product near water-for example,
near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub; in a wet
basement; or near a swimming pool; and the like.
8 Accessories - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand,
tripod, bracket, or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to
a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. Use only with a
cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer,
or sold with the product. Any mounting of the product should follow
the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting accessory
recommended by the manufacturer.
9 A product and cart combination should be moved with
care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may
cause the product and cart combination to overturn.
10 Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for
ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to
protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked
or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the
product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should
not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless
proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instructions have
been adhered to.
11 Power Sources - This product should be operated only from the type
of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of
the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or
local power company.
The primary method of isolating the amplier from the mains supply
is to disconnect the mains plug. Ensure that the mains plug remains
accessible at all times. Unplug the AC power cord from the AC outlet if
the unit will not be used for several months or more.
12 Grounding or Polarization - This product may be equipped with a
polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider
than the other). This plug will t into the power outlet only one way.
This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the
outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to t, contact
your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety
purpose of the polarized plug.
13 Power - Cord Protection - Power-supply cords should be routed so that
they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or
against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience
receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.
14 Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna or cable system
is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is
grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges
and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code,
ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper grounding
of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire
to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location
of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and
requirements for the grounding electrode.
NOTE TO CATV SYSTEM INSTALLER
This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s attention to Section
820-40 of the NEC which provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in
particular, species that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding
system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.
15 Lightning - For added protection for this product during a lightning
storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of
time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or
cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning
and power-line surges.
16 Power Lines - An outside antenna system should not be located in the
vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits,
or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an
outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from
touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be
fatal.
17 Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or
integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of re or
electric shock.
18 Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any kind into this
product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points
or short-out parts that could result in a re or electric shock. Never spill
liquid of any kind on the product.
WARNING: THE APPARATUS SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO
DRIPPING OR SPLASHING, AND OBJECTS FILLED WITH LIQUIDS,
SUCH AS VASES, SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE APPARATUS.
AS WITH ANY ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS, USE CARE NOT TO SPILL
LIQUIDS INTO ANY PART OF THE SYSTEM. LIQUIDS CAN CAUSE A
FAILURE AND/OR A FIRE HAZARD.

19 Damage Requiring Service - Unplug this product from the wall outlet
and refer servicing to qualied service personnel under the following
conditions:
a) When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged.
b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product.
c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
d) If the product does not operate normally by following the operating
instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the
operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls
may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a
qualied technician to restore the product to its normal operation.
e) If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.
f) when the product exhibits a distinct change in performance-this
indicates a need for service.
20 Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are required, be
sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified
by the manufacturer or have the same characteristics as the
original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric
shock, or other hazards.
21 Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this
product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to
determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
22 Wall or Ceiling Mounting - The product should be mounted to a wall
or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.
23 Heat - The product should be situated away from heat sources such as
radiators, heat registers, stoves or other products (including ampliers)
that produce heat.

The T 535 employs a Laser System. To ensure proper use of this product,

Should the unit require maintenance, contact an authorized service
location. Use of controls, adjustments or the performance of procedures
other than those specied may result in exposure to laser radiation. To
prevent direct exposure to laser beam, do not try to open the enclosure.
Visible laser radiation when the enclosure is opened.

DO NOT cut o the mains plug from this equipment. If the plug tted is not
suitable for the power points in your home or the cable is too short to reach
a power point, then obtain an appropriate safety approved extension lead
or consult your dealer. If, nonetheless, the mains plug is cut o, REMOVE
THE FUSE and dispose of the PLUG immediately, to avoid possible shock
hazard by inadvertent connection to the mains supply. If this product is
not provided with a mains plug, or one has to be tted, then follow the
instructions given below:
IMPORTANT
DO NOT make any connection to the larger terminal which is marked with
the letter‘E’ or by the safety earth symbol or colored GREEN or GREEN AND
YELLOW.
The wires in the mains lead on this product are colored in accordance with
the following code:
BLUE – NEUTRAL
BROWN – LIVE
As these colors may not correspond with the colored markings identifying
the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
The BLUE wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the
letter‘N’or colored BLACK.
The BROWN wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the
letter‘L’ or colored RED.
When replacing the fuse, only a correctly rated and approved type should
be used, and be sure to re-t the fuse cover.

The T 535 DVD/SACD Player is a technologically advanced and highly
capable product — yet we have invested great eort in making it simple
and easy to use. We have been careful to ensure that the T 535 is as
musically transparent and spatially accurate as possible, incorporating
much of what we’ve learned from a quarter-century’s experience designing
audio and home-theater components.

INTRODUCTION
GETTING THE MOST FROM THE T 535
UNPACKING AND SETUP
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
Packed with your T 535 you will nd:
• An audio/video cable connector
• The DVD 9 remote control with 2 (two) AAA batteries
• This owner’s manual
SAVE THE PACKAGING
Please save the box and all of the packaging in which your T 535 arrived.
Should you move or otherwise need to transport your T 535, this is by far
the safest container in which to do so. We’ve seen too many otherwise
perfect components damaged in transit for lack of a proper shipping
carton, so please: Save that box!
CHOOSING A LOCATION
Choose a location that is well ventilated (with at least several inches to both
sides and behind), and that will provide a clear line of sight, within 25 feet/8
meters, between the T 535’s front panel and your primary listening/viewing
position. This will ensure reliable infrared remote control communications.
The T 535 generates a modest amount of heat, but nothing that should
trouble adjacent components. It is perfectly possible to stack the T 535 on
top of other components.
QUICK START
In case you simply cannot wait to experience the performance of your new
NAD T 535, we provide the following“Quick Start”instructions to get you
underway.
Please make all the connections to your T 535 with the unit unplugged. It is
also advisable to power-down or unplug all associated components while
making or breaking any signal or AC power connections.
PLAY A CD OR DVD MOVIE
• Using the supplied audio/video cable connector, connect the T 535’s
composite VIDEO OUT or S-VIDEO OUT jack to your TV/monitor’s
corresponding input. Connect likewise the T 535’s MIXED AUDIO OUT to
your TV/monitor’s applicable AUDIO input.
• Plug the AC mains plug into the AC outlet; the LED on the front panel
will be illuminated amber indicating the T 535 is in standby mode ready
to accept commands from either the front panel power switch or the
DVD 9 remote.
• To start playback of the DVD player; press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button on
the DVD 9 remote control or in the front panel.
• Insert the media and press [PLAY] button to start playback. You
should hear audio and see an image on the TV/monitor. (If one or the
other fails to appear, check your TV/monitor’s input settings or audio/
video allocation if applicable).
Enjoy the movie or music, but be sure to set aside time to read this
manual thoroughly to set up and congure your T 535 according to your
preference.
ABOUT THE T 535
Though the T 535 is among the most technically sophisticated DVD/SACD
players, we worked hard to make it one of the most musically transparent
components available as well - this is what we mean by NAD’s“Music First”
design philosophy. Here are just a few examples
• The T535 includes the High Denition Digital Interface (HDMI) with
HDCP encryption, allowing high denition audio and video signals
to be transferred between source components, processors, and TV
Displays in a pure digital format.
• Using the high quality 12-bit 216-MHz video DAC, the T 535 ensures
highly accurate playback of delicate, low-level video signals as well as
produce vivid picture that is faithful in every detail. On the other hand,
the audiophile quality 24-bit, 192-kHz audio D/A converters make the
T 535 well protected from noise caused by even minute uctuations
in current from the power supply. This high performance audio D/A
converter ensures that all the sound you hear is as clear and noise free
as possible thereby maintaining the delivery of dynamic, smooth and
expansive audio sound.
• The T 535 has exceptional playability. It has support for DVD-Video,
DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW, DVD-A, SACD, DivX, SVCD with or without PBC
(Play Back Control),VCD, Audio CD, CD-R/-RW and including recorded
MP3, copyright-protected WMA and JPEG les.
• Gold-surfaced connectors are employed throughout to ensure
maximum signal integrity.

FRONT PANEL
1 POWER: Press this button to switch ON the T 535. The Standby LED
indicator will turn from amber to blue and illuminate the VFD. Pressing
the power switch again turns the unit back to standby mode.
The T 535 can also be switched ON from standby mode by pressing
the [STOP/OPEN] or [PLAY] button on the front-panel as well as on the
remote control.
2 INDICATOR: This indicator will light up amber when the T 535 is
in standby state. When the T 535 is at ON state, this indicator will
illuminate blue.
3 STOP: While a disc is playing, press this button to stop and at the
same time pause playback of disc –“RESUME” will be displayed. (When
[PLAY/PAUSE] button is pressed, play will resume from the spot it was
stopped.) Press STOP a second time and disc playback will fully stop.
4 OPEN/CLOSE: Press this button to open and close the disc tray. When
in standby, this button will also power ON the T 535 and at the same
time open the disc tray.
5 REMOTE SENSOR: Point the DVD 9 at the remote sensor and press
the buttons. Do not expose the remote sensor of the DVD 9 to a strong
light source such as direct sunlight or illumination. If you do so, you may
not be able to operate the T 535 with the remote control.
Distance: About 23 ft (7 m) from the front of the remote sensor
Angle: About 30° in each direction of the front of the remote sensor
6 DISC TRAY: With the DISC TRAY open, insert a DVD, VCD, CD or other
compatible media disc face down onto the tray.
“UNKNOWN DISC” appears on both the T 535’s display and the TV /
monitor screen, if the disc is placed upside down (and it is a single sided
disc).
7 VFD: The Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) provides playback
information, settings and other indicators.
8 PLAY/PAUSE: Press this button to toggle between Play and Pause of a
DVD, VCD, CD and other compatible media disc.
If the disc tray is open, press this button to automatically close the tray
and start playback if a disc is loaded.
9 SKIP/SCAN: Press to skip forward or to skip backward a track
or chapter.
Press and hold or for more than 2 seconds to search up or
down a track or chapter. Press repeatedly to select the desired scanning
speed. Press PLAY/PAUSE to resume normal playback.

REAR PANEL
1 MIXED AUDIO OUT: Connect to the corresponding analog audio
input of an amplier, receiver or stereo system.
2 5.1CH AUDIO OUT: The T 535 contains a multi-channel decoder. It
enables playback of discs recorded in multi-channel surround without

Connect to the corresponding multi-channel audio input of a receiver
or a processor.
3 DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL, OPTICAL): Connect the optical or coaxial
digital OUT ports to the corresponding S/PDIF digital input of a
recording component such as a CD recorder, DAT deck, computer
soundcard or other digital processors.
4 IR IN: This input is connected to the output of an IR (infrared) repeater
(Xantech or similar) or the IR output of another component to allow
control of the T 535 from a remote location. Most NAD products with IR
OUT are fully compatible with the T 535.
5. RS-232: Connect this interface via RS-232 serial cable (not supplied)
to any Windows® compatible PC to allow remote control of the T 535
through NAD’s proprietary PC software or other compatible external
controllers.

6. SCART/RGB OUT (Euro model/PAL only): Connect the T 535’s
[SCART/RGB OUT] to the SCART/RGB video input of a compatible video
monitor/TV. Be sure to observe the correct orientation of the SCART/
RGB plug.
7 HDMI OUT: Using a HDMI cable (not supplied), connect the HDMI OUT
jack to the corresponding HDMI input jack of an HDTV, a projector or an
A/V Receiver.
NOTES
• Toggle the HDMI button of DVD 9 remote control to turn ON or OFF
HDMI output. When turned ON, “HDMI ON” will be displayed in the VFD
followed by the applicable resolution setting.
• There will be no component video output at “HDMI ON”.
• HDMI button in the DVD 9 remote control will not elicit any response if
the HDMI cable is either unplugged from the HDMI OUT terminal or not
connected to a HDMI-capable TV/monitor.
WARNING
Before connecting and disconnecting any HDMI cables, both the T 535
and the ancillary source must be powered OFF and unplugged from the
AC outlet. Failure to observe this practice may cause permanent damage
to all equipment connected via HDMI sockets.
8 VIDEO OUT/S-VIDEO OUT: Connect to video input of the monitor/
television using quality dual-RCA and/or S-Video cables designed for
video signals. In general, the S-Video connection is superior and should
be used if your TV/monitor provides the corresponding input.
9 COMPONENT VIDEO OUT: Connect the T 535’s COMPONENT VIDEO
OUT to the component video input of a compatible video monitor/TV
or an A/V Receiver with applicable component video input. Be sure to
observe consistency in connecting the appropriate Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr jacks
to the corresponding sources/inputs. Do not rely purely on the color
coding of the jacks, which may not always be consistent among brands.
The T 535’s component-video output is a fully wide-band output,
compatible with all HDTV formats. On-screen display menu is also
shown at component video output.
10 AC POWER INLET: Connect to the supplied IEC-standard removable
AC power cord or a compatible cord.

You may operate the T 535 DVD/SACD Player from its front panel or via the
DVD 9 remote control. Since the remote will be the primary controller for
most cases, we will focus on remote-controlled operations. Be sure also to
read the section,“Front Panel”.
REGION MANAGEMENT INFORMATION
The T 535 is designed and manufactured to respond to the Region
Management Information that is recorded on a DVD disc. If the Region
number described on the DVD disc does not correspond to the Region
number shown on the back of the T 535, the cannot play that disc. The
VFD and OSD will display‘Region Error’when an incompatible region disc
is loaded.
ABOUT DVD/SVCD/VCD/CD
The T 535 has exceptional playability. It has support for DVD-Video, DVD-
R/-RW/+R/+RW, DVD-A, SACD, DivX, SVCD with or without PBC (Play Back
Control),VCD, Audio CD, CD-R/-RW and including recorded MP3, copyright-
protected WMA and JPEG les.
NOTE
You cannot playback discs other than those listed above such as Video,
CD-CD-ROM, CD-Extra, CD-G, photo-CD, and CD-i data discs. To do so
may render the T 535 permanently inoperable.
DISC LOADING AND PLAYBACK
You can open the disc tray by pressing [STOP/OPEN] button even if the
T 535 is in standby mode. The power indicator will turn from amber to blue.
Place a disc on the disc tray with the playback side down.
There are two dierent disc sizes. Place the disc in the correct guide on the
disc tray. If the disc is out of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause
the T 535 to malfunction. “UNKNOWN DISC” appears on both the T 535’s
display and the TV/monitor screen, if the disc is placed upside down (and it
is a single sided disc).
The following are important tips when loading a disc
• Do not push the disc tray while it is moving. Doing so may cause the
T 535 to malfunction
• Do not push up the disc tray or put any objects other than discs on the
disc tray. Doing so may cause the T 535 to malfunction.
• Keep your ngers well clear of the disc tray as it is closing. Be especially
careful with children’s ngers around the closing disc tray, as there is a
risk of personal injury.
Press [PLAY/PAUSE], the disc tray is automatically closed and playback
begins. Press the DVD 9’s numeric button(s) to select the desired track
(CD) and then ENTER. Play of the selected item now begins (Depending
on the DVD disc or other disc media, some operations may be dierent or
restricted. Refer to the jacket or case of the disc you are playing).
Press the DVD 9’s [STOP] key twice during playback to display an audio CD’s
total number of tracks and total playback time in the VFD.
If you insert a SVCD videodisc, the PBC symbol (Play Back Control) will
appear in the T 535’s display. The [MENU] button on the DVD 9 will toggle
on and o PBC.
After playing back all of the chapters in the title, T 535 automatically stops
and returns to the menu screen.
NOTE
Do not move the T 535 during playback. Doing so may damage the disc
and the T 535.
ABOUT THE ON-SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD)
The T 535 employs a self-explanatory on-screen display“menu” that will
appear on the connected video monitor/TV. These are required during
the setup process (and are useful in day-to-day operation), so be sure to
connect the monitor/TV before proceeding with setup.
DISPLAY THE T 535 SETUP MENU
Press the DVD 9’s [SETUP] button for the Setup Menu OSD to appear. With
the use of the DVD 9’s navigation buttons, you may select various menus. If
the Setup Menu does not appear, check your applicable video connections.
NAVIGATING THE SETUP MENU OSD AND MAKING CHANGES
To navigate through the Setup Menu OSD options, please do the following
using the DVD 9 remote control:
1 Press keys to move up or down the menu selections.
2 Press [ENTER] to select a menu.
3 Use keys to select through the options of a particular menu.
4 Press keys to save the settings and at the same time move to the
next option.
To exit from a menu option, press repeatedly the DVD 9’s [RTN] key as
applicable or the [SETUP] key to exit completely.
DISPLAY DISC OSD
You can display the general disc playback status on the TV screen. Some
items can be changed using the menu. To use the on-screen display:
1 Press the DVD 9’s [DISP] during playback.
2 Press to select an item. The selected item is highlighted.
3 Key-in the desired the number button or press [ENTER] as applicable.
NOTES
• The display feature may not be available for all disc media and is media
dependent.
• During playback and while at “Timer” OSD option, repeatedly press
[ENTER] key to display the disc’s track elapsed, track remain and total
elapsed time. This is applicable only for CD playback.
• If no button is pressed for about 10 seconds, the on-screen display
disappears.

NOTE
During SACD playback, the keys cannot cannot be used directly to select
through the track list. Press [STOP] first and then use the keys to scroll
through the track list.

The Setup Menu allows one to customize the operation of the T 535. If the
factory defaults do not suit your taste, you will need to use the setup menu
to congure the T 535 yourself.
To access and navigate through the Setup Menu selections, please refer to
and follow the directions stated in the above section about “Navigating the
Setup Menu OSD and Making Changes.”
GENERAL SETUP MENU
DVD-AUDIO MODE
Some DVD-Audio discs contain the DVD-Video content in addition to the
DVD-Audio content. You can choose DVD-Audio or DVD-Video mode by
scrolling to [DVD-Audio mode].
DVD-AUDIO : Select to playback both DVD-Audio and DVD-Video
contents. DVD-Audio content only may be played back depending on
the disc.
DVD-Video : Select to playback only the DVD-Video content.
NOTES
• This setting is only available when no disc is loaded in the disc tray.
• Selected mode becomes eective after you close the setup menu.
• When a DVD-Audio disc is played back, the DVD AUDIO indicator lights
up.
• When you select [DVD-Video], the DVD AUDIO indicator goes out.
MOVING TO ANOTHER GROUP
Some DVD Audio discs divide content into dierent groups. Your player
enables you to quickly access dierent groups during playback via the
on-screen display.
1. Press DISP during playback
2. Press to highlight [GROUP].
3. Enter group number using the numeric buttons 0-9.
SACD MODE
Some SACD discs contain both SACD layer and the standard CD layer. You
can choose SACD or CD mode by scrolling to [SACD mode].
SACD : Select to play back SACD layer only.
Press [STOP] and then toggle DVD 9’s [MULTI/2CH] key to directly select
either multi-channel or 2-channel SACD audio. Further details like the
SACD title and Artist could be shown by pressing the [DISP] key.
CD : Select to play back CD layer only.
NOTES
• This setting is only available when no disc is loaded in the disc tray.
• Selected mode becomes eective after you close the setup menu.
OSD LANGUAGE
Select a language for the SETUP menu. The following are the available
languages – English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Swedish.
PARENTAL RATING (NORTH AMERICA VERSION ONLY)
Some movies contain scenes that may not be suitable for children to view.
Many of these discs contain parental control information that applies to
the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc. Movies and scenes are
rated from Level 1 to 8, depending on the country. Some discs oer more
suitable scenes as an alternative.
The parental rating feature allows you to block access to scenes greater
than the rating you set up, thereby preventing your children from being
able to view material you believe is unsuitable. To activate [Parental Rating],
please be guided by the following:
1. Scroll to“Parental Rating” and press . [- - - -] will appear indicating
that a password is needed to change the ratings level.
2. Input the password you have setup at the [Parental Password] as
discussed below.
3. Upon entering the password, you can now set the parental rating level
you prefer.
4. Press keys to save the settings and at the same time move to the
next option.
LEVEL 18
Level one (1) has the most restrictions and Level 8 is the least restrictive.
NOTES
If you set a rating level for the player, all disc scenes with the same rating
level or lower are played. Higher rated scenes are not played unless
an alternate scene is available on the disc. The alternative must have
a lower rating. If no suitable alternative is found, playback stops. You
must enter the 4-digit password in order to play the disc. Should you
forget your password, restore the T 535 to its factory default settings (See
“Factory Default” under the heading “General Setup Menu”).
PARENTAL PASSWORD
You can change the password for parental control. Enter your four-digit
password when prompted on the screen. The default password is [1234].
1. Scroll to [Parental Password]. Enter your old four-digit password using
the numeric buttons (0-9).
2. When doing this for the rst time, enter [1234]. If the password is
correct, the submenu appears.
3. Enter the new four-digit password using the numeric buttons (0-9).
[Conrm Password] is consequently highlighted.
4. Enter the new four-digit password again. The previous menu screen
appears and the new four-digit password is now valid.

SCREENSAVER
When you set [Screen Saver] to [On], a screen saver in the form of an NAD
logo appears when you leave the T 535 for fteen minutes at Stop/Resume
mode or 30 minutes at Pause mode.
Select [O ] to disable the screen saver function.
AUTO POWER OFF
There are three options for the T 535 to automatically power OFF. These are
Mode 1 : Select this to set the T 535 to standby mode automatically
when disc playback is stopped for more than 30 minutes or disc
playback is continued for more than six hours without operation.
Mode 2 : Select this to set this unit to the standby mode automatically
when disc playback is at Stop/Resume mode for 30 minutes or for 45
minutes at Pause mode.
O : Select this to disable the auto power o function.
SLEEP TIMER
The Sleep Timer allows the T 535 to automatically go to standby mode after
a certain elapsed time. The Sleep Timer periods are as follows - 30 min, 60
min, 90 min, 120 min and 150 min.
To cancel the Sleep Timer function, select [O].
FACTORY DEFAULT
Sometimes power spikes and drop-outs may from time to time cause some
inadvertent functionality. The procedure below will set the T 535 to factory
default settings.
1. Scroll to [Factory Default].
2. Enter the four-digit password [2580] using the numeric buttons (0-9).
The conrmation screen appears. (See also the section“Parental
Password” above.)
3. Press to select [Yes] and then ENTER to reset the T 535. All settings
are now reset to the initial factory settings.
DIVX REGISTRATION
DivX is the name of a revolutionary new video codec which is based on the
new MPEG-4 compression standard for video. You will be able to play DivX
discs using the T 535.
The Registration code details necessary for VOD (Video-On- Demand) service
can be shown by pressing while at [DivX Registration] menu option.

AUDIO SETUP MENU
ANALOG OUTPUT
Depending on the disc format, analog output can be setup to match the
playback capability of the T 535.
STEREO : Change output to stereo delivering 2-channel audio only.
MULTI-CHANNEL : Connected to a multi-channel A/V receiver with 6
channel inputs, the T 535 performs DTS decoding or Dolby Digital 5.1-
channel decoding when applicable.
DIGITAL OUT
Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the player’s [Digital
Out] according to the type of audio system you use.
All : Select [All] if you connect the T 535’s digital OUT jack to an
amplier or other equipment with a Dolby Digital, DTS or MPEG
decoder.
PCM : Select when connected to a two-channel digital stereo
amplier. DVDs encoded in Dolby Digital or MPEG will be automatically
downmixed to two-channel PCM audio.
O : Select to turn o digital audio output.
LPCM OUTPUT
Discs are recorded at a certain sampling rate - the higher the sampling rate,
the better the sound quality.
If the T 535 is connected to a PCM-compatible receiver via a digital terminal,
the LPCM output can be setup to match the receiver’s capability.
48KHz : If your receiver or amplier is not capable of handling 96 kHz
signals, select 48 kHz. When this choice is made, this unit automatically
converts any 96 kHz signals to 48 kHz so your system can decode them.
96KHz : If your receiver or amplier is capable of handling 96 kHz
signals, select 96 kHz. When this choice is made, this unit passes each
type of signal through without any further processing.
Check the documentation of your amplier to verify its capabilities.
NIGHT LISTENING MODE
Night listening mode allows one the option to make soft sounds
comparatively louder while limiting the peak loudness of loud ones. It
is useful when you watch your favorite action movie without disturbing
others at night.
On : The [On] setting is for late-night sessions or other times when you
wish to retain maximum dialog intelligibility while minimizing overall
volume levels. This is applicable only for Dolby Digital soundtracks.
O : To maintain full dynamic range, set to [O].

SPEAKER SETUP MENU
SIZE
Select a speaker that you want to adjust. Press to set a mode (Large,
Small or O ).
Large : If you have connected the system to a speaker with a low
frequency of 100Hz or below, select [Large]. If you have not connected
a subwoofer, always select [Large] for Front speaker (L/R).
Small : If you have connected the system to a speaker without a low
frequency of 100Hz or below, select [Small].
O : When you do not have a certain speaker connected, select [O ].
NOTES
• [Front L/R] speaker’s size can be set to [Large] or [Small] only.
• If Front L/R speaker’s size is set to [Small], Rear and Surround speaker’s
size can only be set to [Small] or [O].
• Subwoofer’s size can be set only to [On] or [O].
• These settings are not available for SACD discs.
• [Center], [Surround L/R] and [Subwoofer] settings are not available
when the [Analog Output] setting is set to [Stereo] (see also the section
“Analog Output”).
RESET
The Speaker Size settings can be reset to their initial factory settings by
selecting [On] at the [Reset] option.
When [On] is selected, the conrmation screen appears.
Select [Yes] to reset the setting, and then press ENTER. The [Size] settings
are now reset to their initial factory settings.
Select [O ] for the settings to remain unchanged.
DISTANCE
Setting the Distance lets the speakers know how far the sound has to travel
to reach your set listening point. This allows the sound from each speaker to
reach the listener at the same time.
Press to adjust the Distance of the selected speaker. [0.3m (1 ft)
– 12.0m (40 ft)]
Distance can be displayed as [Feet] or [Meter] selectable at the [Unit] item.
NOTES
• [Center] distance setting cannot be specied beyond or below 5ft (1.5m)
of the [Front L/R] setting.
• [Surround L/R] distance setting cannot be specied beyond or below 15ft
(4.5m) of the [Front L/R] setting.
RESET
The Speaker Distance settings can be reset to their initial factory settings by
selecting [On] at the [Reset] option.
When [On] is selected, the conrmation screen appears.
Select [Yes] to reset the setting, and then press ENTER. The [Distance]
settings are now reset to their initial factory settings.
Select [O ] for the settings to remain unchanged.

LEVEL
From [Speaker] menu, scroll to the [Level] option to setup the volume levels
of the individual speakers at a range of 0dB to -12dB.
Press to set the desired volume levels for Front L, Center, Front R,
Surround L and Surround R speakers or Subwoofer.
TEST TONE
A test tone can be enabled to help you judge the volume level of each
speaker.
1. Scroll to [Test Tone].
2. Press to select [O], [Manual] or [Auto].
O : No test tone output
Manual : Enable test tone manually. During the test tone, you can
adjust the volume level while at each channel.
Auto : Test tone automatically cycles through each channel. Test tone
cannot be interrupted and stops only after subwoofer test.
3. For [Auto], select [Yes] when the conrmation screen appears.
4. For [Manual], press to select each speaker, and then press ENTER to
output the test tone.
RESET
The Speaker Level settings can be reset to their initial factory settings by
selecting [On] at the [Reset] option.
When [On] is selected, the conrmation screen appears.
Select [Yes] to reset the setting, and then press ENTER. The [Level] settings
are now reset to their initial factory settings.
Select [O ] for the settings to remain unchanged.
SACD CONFIGURATION
There are three preset speaker congurations for SACD discs. The following
table species which speakers are set to Large, Small or turned OFF based
on the conguration setting.

TV DISPLAY
Select [4:3 Pan Scan] or [4:3 Letter Box] when a standard 4:3 TV is
connected.
4:3 Letter Box : Displays a wide picture with bands on the upper and
lower portions of the screen.
4:3 Pan Scan :Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire
screen and cuts o the portions that do not t.
16:9 : Select when a 16:9 wide TV is connected.
TV TYPE
You can select either [PAL] or [NTSC] to force the output of the T 535 to the
desired format. For example one can load a PAL media and display it in the
NTSC format. Similarly one can load an NTSC media and display it in the PAL
format.
Depending on the type of TV set you own, select the signal mode you
wish to watch your disc. The default is PAL for Europe and NTSC for North
America.
NOTE
At STOP mode, toggle the [PAL/NTSC] key of DVD 9 remote control to
directly set the TV type to either PAL or NTSC system. This DVD 9 [PAL/
NTSC] key feature is eective for European version only.
BLACK LEVEL (NORTH AMERICA ONLY)
At NTSC mode, color contrast during playback can be improved by setting
the black level to [ON].
On : Select to enhance the black level.
O : Select for the standard black level setting.
NOTES
• Black level is only available for CVBS (composite video) and S-video
output.
• This function has no eect if the [TV Type] is set to [PAL] (see the section
“TV type” above).
CLOSED CAPTION
Some specic discs have hidden data in the video signals. Closed caption
enables such data visible even in the absence of a special decoder.
Subtitles and captions are closely similar - with the subtitles intended for
hearing persons and captions for the hearing impaired. Captions show
sound eects like “phone ringing”and“footsteps”while subtitles rarely show
all of the audio. Closed caption is applicable if the disc contains closed
caption information and your TV/monitor also supports this function.
On : Enable closed caption function.
O : Disable closed caption function.
NOTES
• Closed caption is only available for CVBS (composite video) and S-video
output.
• Applicable subtitle should be enabled for the captions to be shown.
STILL MODE
Still mode enhances viewing of a clear still-image when video playback is
paused.
Field : Standard still mode setting and is suitable for playback of quick
motion scenes.
Frame : Select if picture is unstable at [Field] mode.
PROGRESSIVE SCAN
If your television is a high-denition or“digital ready”television, you may take
advantage of the T 535’s progressive scan output for the highest video resolution
possible. Progressive scan is applicable only at component video out.
On : Enable Progressive Scan mode. Select [Yes] when the conrmation
screen appears.
O : Select to maintain normal Component Video Output (Interlaced).

SCART VIDEO OUT (EUROPEAN MODELS ONLY)
SCART carries both composite video and RGB signals. One could select
which kind of video output signal will be routed over SCART OUT.
CVBS : Select to output composite video signals.
RGB : Split the signal into the three fundamental colors Red, Green and
Blue (RGB) resulting to greater picture resolution and elimination of
artifacts associated with traditional composite video signals.
PICTURE SETTINGS
The T 535 comes with 10 sets of picture color settings that you can dene
yourself.The“Picture Settings”section at the“REFERENCE”page shows a detailed
guideline on applicable picture settings with respect to video output.
Brightness : Adjust overall brightness of the image.
Contrast : Adjust bright areas (white level) in the image.
Hue : Adjust the hue or phase of the image.
Sharpness Mid : Adjust the sharpness of the image for the
intermediate frequencies.
Sharpness High : Adjust the sharpness of the image for the high
frequencies.
DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) : Set to reduce video noise.
Gamma : Adjust intensity of the picture non-linearly. Select when
an image’s dark portions appears obscure or bright portions become
brighter than necessary.
Chroma level : Adjust color density.
Chroma delay : Adjust the shift of the brightness and color signal of an
image.
True Life : More dynamic picture is produced by increasing the picture
contrast and the color intensity.
NOTE
All picture settings are not available for SCART (RGB) output.

HDMI SETUP MENU
ABOUT HDMI
HDMI (High Denition Multimedia Interface) supports both video and
audio on a single digital connection for use with DVD Players, Set-Top Boxes
and other AV devices.
HDMI was developed to provide the technologies of HDCP (High Denition
Contents Protection). HDCP is used to protect digital content transmitted
and received.
HDMI has the capability to support standard, enhanced or high-denition
video plus standard to multi-channel surround-sound audio, HDMI features
include uncompressed digital video, a bandwidth of up to 5 gigabytes per
second, one connector (instead of several cables and connectors), and
communication between the AV source and AV devices such as DTVs.
HDMI VIDEO
The resolution of your HDMI video can be adjusted with T 535 connected to
an HDMI-compatible component via the HDMI jack.
480P/576P, 720P, 1080i and 1080P : Set applicable resolution
depending on your TV/Monitor capability.
Auto : The best resolution is automatically selected based on your
TV/monitor’s capability.
NOTES
• When [TV Type] is set to [NTSC] or [PAL], video output signals will be
480P or 576P accordingly.
• Component video out is muted at HDMI ON.
• For settings other than [Auto], be sure that the selected resolution
is supported by the HDMI-compatible monitor you are using. If the
selected resolution is not supported, this setting is automatically
switched to the most appropriate resolution.
• Picture quality may decrease when [1080P] is selected and an HDMI
cable longer than 5m is used.
WIDE SCREEN FORMAT
The aspect ratio of the projected images on the screen can be adjusted
through the following options.
Zoom : Display 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen with the center portion of
the screen enlarged. (The top, bottom, left and right portions of the
screen are cut o.)
NL Stretch : Display 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen with non-linear
stretching. (The center position of the screen is stretched less than the
side.)
Pillar Box : Display 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen without stretching.
O : No aspect ratio adjustment.
NOTE
This function is only available for progressive scan and HDMI output.
DVI OUTPUT
The DVI output range can be set to match the connected component.
Standard : Select if you cannot see the correct image when you select
[Enhanced].
Enhanced : Select if black and white in the image is not distinct.
NOTE
This function is only available when connected to a DVI-D-compatible
component via the HDMI jack.
HDMI AUDIO
HDMI audio output can be set to match the connected component.
Auto : Best audio setting is automatically selected based on the
connected component.
PCM : Audio output is the decoded multi-channel or 2ch linear PCM
audio signals.
O : Turn o HDMI audio output.
NOTES
• This function is only available when connected to an HDMI-compatible
component via the HDMI jack.
• SACD signal is not available at HDMI out.
• Digital output signals are muted when [HDMI Audio] is set to [Auto] or
[PCM].

DISC SETUP MENU
AUDIO/SUBTITLE/DVD MENU LANGUAGE
Depending on the DVD media, only those [AUDIO], [Subtitle] and [DVD
Menu] languages recorded on the DVD media are available. When a
language is chosen, it will become the default setting unless the DVD
media overrides the settings.
Select among English, French, Spanish, Swedish, German, Italian and
Russian as the desired language setting.
Select [Others] if the desired language is not on the list. When [Others]
is selected, you will be prompted to enter the 4-digit language code.
Refer to the section“Language Code List”in the “REFERENCE”page for the
corresponding 4-digit code of your chosen language.
If you choose for the disc subtitle not to come up, select [OFF].
ANGLE MARK
An angle mark display can be turned on or o when sequences recorded
from dierent camera angles are played back.
On : An angle mark is displayed continuously.
O : An angle mark appears for ve seconds and then disappears.
PBC
Set Playback Control (PBC) to On or O.
On : Video CDs with PBC are played according to the PBC.
O : Video CDs with PBC are played the same way as Audio CDs.
NOTES
• This function is available only on Video CD and SVCD with playback
control (PBC) feature.
• Playback control (PBC) function can be directly turned ON or OFF by
toggling the MENU key of the DVD 9 remote control.
TIME INTERVAL
The duration for the slide display of JPEG les can be regulated by setting the
time interval. The settings are – 2 sec to 10 sec (with 1 second control step)
The setting may not work correctly depending on the le sizes.
