3. DESCRIPTION
SMART-LINK is a 12VDC power distributor for the
optimal management of heavy duty loads. With
SMART-LINK it is possible to use appliances such as:
air-conditioning, coffee machine, hair dryer, etc... both
on and off grid, without risk!
The device protects the batteries and the electrical
system by automatically selecting the safest energy
source.
SMART-LINK always keeps the leisure battery and
starter battery voltage under control, avoiding any
overload to the alternator or the electrical system.
SMART-LINK is equipped with a relay dedicated to the
management of the energy saving function for air
conditioners equipped with "Economy Mode" function.

MAIN FEATURES
• H e av y d u t y A u to m a t i c 1 2 V p ow e r s u p p l y
management.
• Dedicated switch for the air conditioners compressor
ON-OFF management, for air conditioners equipped
with Economy function (e.g. Dometic).
• Automatic battery disconnection (under 10.5V).
4. OPERATIONS
SMART-LINK can be installed on any type of
existing electrical system, and the Economy
function allows you to interrupt the activity of the
air conditioning compressor on devices equipped
with this function, such as:
ENGINE RUNNING
During the trip, with the alternator running, SMART-
LINK creates a direct power supply line between the
inverter and the starter battery. This way it is possible to
use the air conditioning of the living side, the coffee
machine and all the other appliances, without stressing
the original system, keeping the batteries always safe
from deep discharges.
In case of alternator voltage dropping - e.g. Engine idle,
driver's cab air conditioner on, headlights on, engine
fan running, etc... - SMART-LINK starts reducing
consumption by activating the Economy mode. In this
setup the air conditioning compressor of the air

conditioning unit is switched off via the relay on the
control connector.
If the voltage is restored to normal (after about 1
minute) the compressor is reactivated.
If even in this condition the alternator fails to meet all
energy requirements, the power supply of the inverter
is switched to the leisure battery. If the alternator
voltage returns back to optimal voltage, more or equal
to 13.2V, the power supply returns back to the starting
battery and the air conditioning compressor is
reactivated turning off the Economy function.
ENGINE OFF
SMART-LINK allows you to use the inverter connected
to the leisure battery even when the engine is switched
off, without risk.
If, during use, the Leisure battery voltage drops below
the safety threshold (11.1V), SMART-LINK will go into
Economy mode: while keeping the air conditioning fan
running, it deactivates the air conditioning compressor,
reducing consumption and protecting the batteries
from deep discharges.
If the leisure battery voltage continues to drop,
reaching the critical threshold (10.5V), SMART-LINK
continues to reduce consumption by completely
isolating the inverter from the batteries.
The inverter will only become active again if the service
battery voltage reaches normal working values, or
when the vehicle alternator is switched on.

5. INSTALLATION
1. Unscrew the two clamping screws located at the
bottom-front area of the SMART-LINK case (Fig.1).
2. Turn the plastic shell upwards until the interlocking
flaps on the opposite side are released.
3. Place SMART-LINK on the chosen support. Fix the
device using the eyelets visible on the inside of the
body with the screws provided or equivalent (Fig.2).

4. Unscrew and remove the three M6 nuts from the
front connection screws and make the electrical
connections as follows (Fig.3):
Pin 3: Starting battery positive pole
Pin 4: Inverter Positive
Pin 5: Leisure battery positive pole
5. Fasten the three cable lugs securely to the
connection screws by tightening the supplied nuts.
6. Connect one cable (min. 1.5mm2) to Pin 2 and the
other end to the D+ signal (or ignition signal).
Tighten the clamping screw.
7. Connect one cable (min. 1,5mm2) to Pin 1 and the
other end to the leisure battery negative pole.
Tighten the clamping screw.
8. If the SMART-LINK started correctly it emits an
acoustic signal. If there is no signal, press the side
ON-OFF power button.
7
CAUTION
The leisure battery negative must be connected at the
end of the installation, as last step!

9. If the vehicle's alternator is a Smart Alternator - Euro
6, it is necessary to place the jumper (supplied) on
connector 8 or connector 9.
If the alternator is a traditional alternator (not Smart
Alternator) leave the two connectors 8 and 9 free.
10. Replace the plastic shell in place and tighten the
clamping screws to close the device.

NOTE
• Pin 8 and 9 both enable Smart Alternator mode.
Only one Jumper is needed, on connector 8 or
connector 9.
• Using both connectors (8 and 9) with a Jumper,
activates Smart Alternator mode.
• Leaving the two connectors 8 and 9 free from
Jumper activates the traditional alternator mode.
CAUTION
For power connections we recommend 25mm2cable
section minimum, or in any case, a section suitable for
the power required and the length of the cables
needed.

7. CONNECTOR CABLING
The connection between the air conditioner and
SMART-LINK requires the cabling of the supplied 3-pin
connector (green connector), with 2 x 1.5 mm2cables
whose configuration change according to the Air
conditioner model.
The management of the air conditioner requires only
two of the three contacts on the green three-pin NDS
connector.
The following table shows which connections to
activate on the green connector provided by NDS,
depending on the model of air conditioner on board.

10.F.A.Q.
•What is the maximum inverter power I can
connect to SMART-LINK?
The limit is not the inverter rated power, the limit is
the appliance connected to the inverter.
The maximum appliance constant power
consumption must be 1500W.
Here are some examples:
Can I run a 700W air-conditioner from a 3000W
inverter?
Yes, but pay attention to the air-conditioner peak
power.
Can I connect a 2000W inverter to an appliance
with a constant power consumption of 1800W?
No.
•Is Smart-Link compatible with other NDS devices?
Yes Smart-Link is compatible with all NDS devices.
•My vehicle is Euro6 with Smart Alternator, should
I change some settings?
Yes, look at page 8, item number 9.
