3 Descripon
3.1 Intended use
The Airow Alarm monitors pressure condions in a suitable duct.
3.2 Funcon
The Airow Alarm is connected to a fan starter so that Airow Alarm starts to
monitor automacally and simultaneously with the fan. The alarm is acvated
when the stac pressure in the duct is outside preset limits.
The Airow Alarm can either monitor one parcular exhaust point at a
workplace, or a group of workplaces connected to a single air duct leading to
the fan.

Airow Alarm Kit

4 Installaon
Installaon, repair and maintenance work is to be carried out by qualied
personnel using only original Nederman spare parts. Contact your nearest
authorized distributor or Nederman for advice on technical service.
4.1 Control box
NOTE!
• The Airow Alarm control box and ashlight must be installed outside the
ATEX classied zone.
• The oponal ashlight should be situated at a locaon visible from the
workplace(s) monitored. See gure 3.
Before starng installaon, an unused volts-free contact from the fan starter
should be wired through to the Fan ON posion.
The electrical enclosure should be mounted near the workplace so that the
alarm LEDs can be clearly seen noted from the operator’s working place. See
gure 3.
If the operator does not have a permanent place or where several working
places are supervised by one alarm, one ashlight should be installed so that
the alarm may be clearly seen from the operator’s working places.
4.2 Electrical connecons
WARNING! Risk of personal injury.
Work with electric equipment is to be carried out by a qualied electrician.
See gure 2 for the wiring diagram, and cabling for terminals for the Airow
Alarm.
Electrical connecons between components should comply with current
naonal regulaons.
4.3 Monitoring point
WARNING! Risk of personal injury.
• If the there is ammable dust or gas present, turn o the fan.
• Eliminate ignion sources such as heat or sparks.
• Wear a dust mask.
NOTE! A non ATEX approved pressure switch must be installed outside of an
ATEX classied zone.
NOTE! Any screws or other xings used into the air duct must not cause any
collecon of dust/chips. If the pressure switch housing is conducve, there
needs to be contact between the pressure switch housing and the metal duct
or ground.
The monitoring point is selected as follows:

Airow Alarm Kit
15
EN
When monitoring Locaon
One single workplace Between dust extracon point, such as a sucon hood, and a
connecon to the duct system.
A group of workplaces Close to the connecon point farthest away from the fan. See gure
3.
The pressure switch can be mounted on the air duct.
NOTE! When drilling in air ducts, safety regulaons must be kept in mind.
The hose is connected to the hose connecon on the pressure switch marked
with a minus (-) sign. Nothing is connected to the hose connecon marked
plus (+) atmospheric pressure.
4.4 Startup
When the fan starts, the alarm is acvated, and the ALARM LED remains lit
unl the required pressure is reached. The ON LED is also lit.
4.4.1 Adjustment
1. A suitable part of the duct is selected, and a hole for the protecon lter
is drilled close to the last connecon point. See secon 4.Installaon
above.
2. The maximum airow according to the order acknowledgement,
technical specicaons etc. must be determined and the corresponding
air velocity calculated.
3. The air velocity is measured with the planned number of extracon
points open. If the airow is larger than (V0), reduce the airow. For
example, this can be done by inserng a plate in front of the fan outlet
ange to reduce the airow unl the airow (V0) planned is reached.
4. At this airow, the stac pressure at the monitoring point (PS0) is
measured, and the pressure switch is set 10% lower, see gure 4.
If the pressure switch measuring range does not cover the seng
value required, the pressure switch is replaced by one with a relevant
measuring range.
5. The main airow is reduced slowly by inserng the plate in the fan outlet
ange unl the alarm is released.
6. The air velocity is measured and the airow is calculated. If it is between
90 and 95% of the airow specied, the adjustment has been completed.
7. If the airow is less than 90% of the airow specied, set pressure switch
5% higher, and repeat item 5.
8. If the airow is higher than 95% of the airow specied, set pressure
switch 5% lower, and repeat item 5. It might be necessary to remove the
plate in front of the fan outlet ange.

5 Use
WARNING! Risk of personal injury.
If there is work with hazardous substances that are assigned mandatory
exposure limits and there is a problem with the Airow alarm, stop work
immediately and x the problem.
The Airow alarm limit has been set according to the arrangement and
operang parameters of the parcular extracon system. Normally, the
Airow Alarm limit will be at 90% airow per workplace, 100% being the
airow specied. When monitoring a group of workplaces, the airow per
workplace is an average value. The Airow Alarm limit seng is found in the
control protocol for the exhaust alarm.
The Airow Alarm begins monitoring as soon as the fan starter is acvated,
and monitors pressure condions in a suitable duct. The alarm is acvated
when the stac pressure in the duct is outside the preset limits.
In the event of an alarm, the red ALARM LED on the Airow Alarm control box
will be lit, and any external connected alarm devices will be acvated. Stop
work at once, nd the cause of the alarm, and x the problem.
When the cause of the alarm has been xed, and the stac pressure in the
duct returns to within the normal range, the alarm will turn o automacally,
and the Airow Alarm will resume monitoring.
During normal operaon, the green ON LED should be lit, which indicates that
the 230 V source works. If the green ON LED is not lit during normal operaon,
one of the 230 V sources is defecve and the red POWER FAILURE LED will
also be ashing. The 230 V source must be xed and reconnected at once.
If changing a fuse cannot solve the problem, contact a Nederman service
technician for assistance. See also gure 5.

6 Maintenance
Installaon, repair and maintenance work is to be carried out by qualied
personnel using only original Nederman spare parts. Contact your nearest
authorized distributor or Nederman for advice on technical service.
WARNING! Risk of personal injury.
Before restarng, close and reconnect guards, doors/hatches, etc.
When any defecve components are found, they should be replaced, and
the unit re-adjusted by a Nederman service technician. If the Airow Alarm
Control box is defecve, it must be replaced.
Maintenance Monthly/Operang Hours Interval
Check that the green ON LED on the controller is lit
durning normal operaon.
Daily
Check correct startup sequence. Airow Alarm must be
released immediately and stay acve unl the fan has
reached normal speed and vacuum has been built up
in the system.
Daily
Check the hose and the protecon lter between the
pressure switch and the air duct for clogging. Blow air
to clean if necessary.
Every 3 months or 1,000 hours
Check the Airow Alarm limit seng (*) Every 12 months (annually)
(*) To be performed by qualied personnel.
6.1 Spare parts
Contact your nearest authorized distributor or Nederman for advice
on technical service or if you require help with spare parts. See also
www.nederman.com.
When ordering spare parts always state the following:
• Part number and control number (see the product idencaon plate).
• Detail number and name of the spare part (see www.nederman.com).
• Quanty of the parts required.
7 Recycling
The product has been designed for component materials to be recycled.
Its dierent material types must be handled according to relevant local
regulaons. Contact the distributor or Nederman if uncertaines arise when
scrapping the product at the end of its service life.
If the Airow Alarm needs to be removed, the sensor hole in the duct should
be sealed. If hazardous dust is likely to be present, suitable precauons must
be taken such as the use of goggles, dust mask and gloves.
