CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1
What is Skype?
Skype is a program that essentially turns your computer into a phone and allows you to
make calls over the Internet to other Skype users. Because the connection is established
over the Web, Skype-to-Skype calls are completely free of charge, and this is why phone
companies do not want you to know about Skype. You can use Skype to call people as
close by as your neighbors or as far away as someone on the opposite side of the globe.
It’s simple, efficient, and gets rid of long-distance calling costs.
What about my NexoTek phone?
Your NexoTek phone has been designed to be used with Skype for a more convenient
Internet calling experience. The NT-P100M Skype Memory Phone conveniently stores
the Skype program, account information, and your personal data on its built-in 128 MB
flash drive. This means you can use the phone anywhere you go, even on computers that
don’t have Skype installed on them, so it is an ideal travel companion. The Memory
phone also has a user-friendly auto-run function: when hooked up to a computer, Skype
and the SkyMagic software that the phone uses automatically begin running. This makes
it perfect for those unfamiliar with Skype or computers in general. You simply plug it in
and talk right away.
The phone is equipped with an LCD screen that displays caller ID as well as the date and
time. It also has mute, hold, and call waiting functions. Your NT-P100M rings for all
incoming calls and includes five different ring styles each at two volume levels.
NexoTek’s noise reduction and echo cancellation technology ensure that you will have
only the best quality calls.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 3
Connecting Your Phone
Using your Memory phone is simple. First, you plug the phone into an open USB port.
After that, both Skype and SkyMagic – the software that enables the phone to be used
with Skype – run automatically thanks to the auto-run function. There is no installation
required. Lastly, Skype will sign you in automatically. Then you can start calling!
1. Take the cord of the phone and carefully insert it into an open USB port. After a
few seconds, the AutoRun window will appear. You will see the SkyMagic icon
– a dark green phone against a light green background. Highlight it and click OK.
⇒If you are connecting the phone to a computer that it has never been plugged
into before, balloons will appear in your system tray before this screen
appears. Please see the New Computer Use section on page 5 before
proceeding.
2. You will hear your phone beep, and the screen should display the time, date, and
the words NO SKYPE. You will see the SkyMagic window flash on your screen.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 4
After a few seconds, Skype will automatically sign you into the program. In your
system tray, you should see the Skype icon – a white check against a green
background – and the SkyMagic icon – a green phone against a green
background.
⇒If you have never used your phone before, it will not have your account
information stored on it, so you will not automatically be signed into Skype.
Please refer to the New Account Use section on page 6 before proceeding.
3. You should see your main Skype window on the screen. Now you have completed
the connection process for your phone and are ready to make Skype calls!

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 5
New Computer Use
If you are using the phone on a computer that it has never been plugged into before, you
will see several balloons appear in your system tray when you connect it. These balloons
indicate that your computer has detected and installed the phone’s drivers, and it is
normal for them to appear.
Wait until you see the last balloon pop up; it should say Your new hardware is
installed and ready to use. If your computer asks you to restart, you may
disregard this request and continue step two of with the phone connection process.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 6
New Account Use
If you have never used your phone before, it will not have your account information
stored on it. You have to create a Skype account or sign in so that the phone can store
your information and automatically sign you in next time.
1. Instead of signing you in, the auto-run function will bring up the Skype sign-in
window and the Skype – Create Account window.
If you already have a Skype account, click Cancel and sign into the program. If
not, please continue reading.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 7
2. Enter the required information in the Skype – Create Account window,
taking note to remember what you choose to put in Choose Skype Name and
Password. This is the account name you will use to talk to other Skype users,
and you need the password to sign into your account. Check the box indicating
that you accept the Skype End User License Agreement and the Skype Privacy
Statement. Then hit Next>.
3. In the next window, you have the option of entering your e-mail address and
country or region and city of residence. This information is optional. If you
choose to give your e-mail address, you also have the option of receiving news
and special offers from Skype. You may also choose whether or not you want
Skype to sign you in automatically when the program is run. When you have
finished configuring your preferences, press the Sign In button.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 8
4. A window will pop up saying Another program wants to use Skype.
Choose the first option that says Allow this program to use Skype
and then press OK. If you accidentally select the wrong option, please see the
Enabling SkyMagic to use Skype portion of Chapter 5.
5. A Getting Started window will pop up. Check the box in the lower left
corner that says Do not show this guide at startup and then close
the window. Now you have finished creating your Skype account. If you would
like, you may continue reading to learn how to make a test call, or you can
continue with step three of the connection process.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 9

a tab for the Skype Test Call.

CHAPTER 2: CONNECTING YOUR PHONE 10
3. When the call is finished, you will be brought back to the Contacts tab of your
Skype window. If you were able to hear your message played back to you, then
you know for sure that your phone is working.
If you were not able to hear the message you left, there may be something wrong
with your computer’s audio devices. Please refer to the Skype Web site for help
by going to http://www.skype.com in your Internet browser.

CHAPTER 4: USING YOUR PHONE 17
Making SkypeOut Calls
SkypeOut is a paid service provided by Skype that lets you call any phone number in
the world. Because it uses an Internet connection instead of a phone line, long-
distance calling rates are significantly lower. You might want to use SkypeOut if your
friends do not have Skype, if they are offline, or if you want to save money on your
long-distance calls. To buy Skype Credit to make SkypeOut calls, refer to Appendix
C.
1. On your phone, use the button to dial +and then the buttons to dial in
the country code and phone number you are trying to reach.
If you accidentally dial an incorrect digit, you may press to erase the number
you have input.
2. Press to send the call.
For example, to call someone in Edinburgh in the United Kingdom with the phone
number (123) 456-7890, you would dial +441234567890 as follows:
+ 44 1234567890
Country Code Number
As another example, say you wanted to call someone with the phone number
(123) 456-7890 in Taiwan. You would dial +8861234567890 as follows:
+ 886 1234567890
Country Code Number
⇒If you do not know the country code of the number you wish to contact, visit the
Skype Dialing Wizard by opening your Web browser and typing
www.skype.com/products/skypeout/rates/dialing.html in the
address bar. This will guide you through making a SkypeOut call.
⇒Even if you are calling someone in the same country or area code region, you still
need to dial the country code and full phone number of your SkypeOut contact.
