Noctua NM-i115-1200 Series User manual

Noctua NM-i115x-1200| Installation Manual
Dear customer,
Congratulations on choosing a Noctua cooler for your Intel
LGA1200/LGA115x system. We always like to think of our coolers
as safe long-term investments: Not only are they built to last, we
also provide upgrade kits so that you can keep using your trusty
Noctua heatsink when you do a system upgrade.
Enjoy your Noctua cooler on LGA1200/LGA115x!
Yours sincerely,
Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO
Required mounting parts:
2x NM-SFB2
fastening brackets
2x NM-IMB2
mounting-Bars
1x NM-IBP2
LGA115x backplate
4x NM-ITS1
thumb screws
4x NM-SSC1
short screws
4x NM-IPS1
plastic spacers
Caution: Choose the alignment of the mounting bars according to
the desired final orientation of the cooler:
Orientation A Orientation B
Caution: Make sure that the curved sides of the mounting bars are
pointing outwards.
First put the plastic spacers onto the bolts of the backplate, then
add the mounting bars. Use the centre holes of the mounting bars.
Installing the mounting bars4
Place the backplate on the rear side of the motherboard so that
the bolts stick through the mounting holes.
Caution: Please make sure that the three cut-outs in the
supplied backplate align with the screws of the motherboard’s
stock backplate.
Caution: Make sure to install the fastening brackets in the correct
position.
Attaching the backplate3
In case you want to use the cooler on an assembled system and
your case doesn’t have a cut-out at the rear side of the mother-
board tray, you first have to remove the motherboard from the
case in order to be able to install the supplied backplate.
Removing the motherboard2
Then fix the new NM-SFB2 fastening brackets to the cooler (you
can either use the original screws or the supplied NM-SSC1
screws). Tighten the screws until they stop, but don’t use excessive
force (max. torque 0.5 Nm).
Fixing the fastening-brackets to the cooler
1
Caution: The following cooler models already use the NM-SFB2 or
compatible fastening brackets, so if you use one of these models,
please skip this step and directly proceed to the next one: NH-
C14S, NH-D14 SE2011, NH-D15, NH-D15 SE-AM4, NH-D15S,
NH-D9L, NH-L12, NH-L9x65, NH-L9x65 SE-AM4. If you use the
NH-L12S, NH-U12A, NH-U12S, NH-U12S SE-AM4, NH-U14S or
NH-U9S, you can also skip this step, but in this case, you need to
use the NM-IMB3 mounting bars supplied with the cooler rather
than the NM-IMB2 bars supplied with this kit in step 2.
First take off the original fastening-brackets from the cooler by
unscrewing the four short screws.
Caution: The supplied backplate will install over the mother-
board’s stock backplate, so the motherboard’s stock backplate
must not be taken off.
This SecuFirm2™ Mounting-Kit for LGA1200 & LGA115x
(LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155, LGA1156) is compatible with most
Noctua retail CPU coolers since 2005. For detailed, up to date
compatibility information please visit:
www.noctua.at/socket_compatibility
Prior to installing the cooler, please consult the compatibility
lists on our website (www.noctua.at/compatibility) and verify
that the cooler is fully compatible with your motherboard. Please
also make sure that your PC case offers sufficient clearance for
the cooler and that there are no compatibility issues with any
other components (e.g. tall RAM modules). Double check that
the heatsink and fan clips do not make contact with the VGA card
or other PCIe cards. Noctua cannot be held responsible for any
damage or losses caused by compatibility issues.
This manual will guide you through the installation process step
by step using an NH-U12P heatsink as an example. Please note
that the installation procedure is identical for all models.
Should you encounter any difficulties, please check the FAQs on
our website (www.noctua.at/faqs) and don’t hesitate to contact our
support team at support@noctua.at.

Install the fan as described in the cooler manual. If you don’t
have it at hand, you can download it at www.noctua.at/manuals.
Installing the fan7
Caution: If you’re using the cooler for the first time, please take
off the protection cover at the bottom side of the heatsink first!
Put the heatsink onto the CPU and screw it to the screw threads
of the mounting bars.
Fastening the heatsink to the CPU6
Caution: Gently tighten the screws until they stop, but don’t use
excessive force (max. torque 0.6 Nm).
If there are residual traces of thermal paste or thermal pads on
your CPU, please clean them off first. Then press a small drop
(3-4mm diameter) of NT-H1 onto the centre of the heatspreader.
Applying the thermal paste
Caution: Applying too much thermal paste will lower heat
conductivity and cooling performance!

Even with high-grade products and strict quality control, the
possibility of defects cannot be eliminated entirely. Therefore,
we aim at providing the highest possible level of reliability and
convenience by offering a warranty period of 6 years and direct,
fast and straightforward RMA service.
Should youencounter any problemswith your NM-i115x-1200, please
don’t hesitate to contact our support team ([email protected]).
Please also consult the FAQ section on our website:

Warranty, support and FAQs!
As it is not possible to reliably calculate or control the forces that
act upon a system during transport (e.g. in shipping), we gener-
ally recommend, for safety reasons, taking off coolers with a total
weight of more than 700g (incl. fan). If the weight of the heatsink
without fan is below 700g and the total weight including fan is
above 700g, we recommend taking off the fan from the heatsink
in order to reduce the weight below 700g. Noctua cannot be held
responsible for any damage that may arise due to excessive stress
during transport if you keep the heatsink installed.
Transporting your system
!
Fix the mounting bars using the 4 thumb screws.
Caution: Gently tighten the screws until they stop, but don’t use
excessive force (max. torque 0.6 Nm).
