SpO2Soft Sensors
1. Select the proper size sensor.*
Large 8000SL 0.5 –1 inch (12.5 – 25.5 mm)
Medium 8000SM 0.4 – 0.75 inch (10 – 19 mm)
Small 8000SS 0.3 – 0.5 inch (7.5 – 12.5 mm)
2. Use clean, dry finger where sensor will
be placed. Heavy lotions, sunscreen, dirt, oils
and nail polish may alter accuracy.
3. Gently squeeze the sides to open
the sensor.
4. Slide onto the finger to the end of the
sensor with cable on top of hand. Place
finger tip at – but not pushed through –
the end of sensor. Check that sensor gently
hugs finger and is not too tight
or too loose.
5. Secure sensor to back of hand with
medical tape to allow movement.
6. Connect to a Nonin pulse oximeter. Follow
instructions in oximeter Operator’s Manual to
measure oxygen saturation and pulse rate.

ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE
A. Use index, middle or ring finger. Rotate to other fingers for extended use
if desired.
B. Do not use on arm with IV line or BP cuff.
C. Check sensor position and skin at site every 6 to 8 hours.
D. If signal quality is low on the oximeter:
1. Check sensor position and size for good fit.
2. Check connection at oximeter.
3. Check that hand is warm and has good blood flow.
4. Use a different finger.
E. Clean sensor between patients or as needed:
1. Use soft cloth with 10% bleach/90% water solution (household bleach <
10% sodium hypochlorite).
2. Do not use ammonium chloride based cleaning fluids.
3. Do not turn the sensor inside out.
4. Wipe away from connector plug. Do not submerge or immerse sensor or
connector plug.
5. Allow to completely dry before next use.
