Sling Safety

• Slings should be inspected prior to use and after
washing. Check carefully for wear or damage to
stitching, seams, fabric, straps and strap loops.
• DO NOT USE DAMAGED OR BADLY WORN
SLINGS
• When selected and used correctly, a sling and hoist
will allow a safer transfer reducing the risks
associated with manual handling.
• The safe working load is shown on the sling label.
Some slings vary so always check before use. If
label is unreadable, do not use the sling and con-
tact your provider.
Care Instructions
• HSE recommended washing guide is 71oc for
minimum 3 mins, or 65oc for minimum of 10 mins for
soiled materials.
• Do not boil or use biological detergents.
• Do not bleach, iron, dry clean or tumble dry your
sling.
• Slings will dry quickly in a warm room after a short
spin cycle.
• Slings should be stored in dry conditions, away from
direct heat and sharp or moving objects.
Sling Maintenance
• Slings must be periodically inspected by a competent person
and at least every six months.
• An inspection program should be established. To assist in
this an inspection record is incorporated on the inside of this
user guide.
• Numerous factors influence the life of a sling including
frequency of use, number of washes, washing
temperature and type of detergent.
• Slings have a lifespan of 5 years of continuous use following
the guidance listed above.
• Slings will start to show increased signs of wear after 5 years
and should be inspected more regularly to ensure the product
still safe to use.
