1. PREFACE
Congratulations on the purchase of an original NOVAFON sound wave de-
vice. Our therapy devices have delivered excellent performance and reliabil-
ity for decades. Please read the following pages carefully to ensure safe, ef-
fective and long-term use of your NOVAFON sound wave device.
2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
NOVAFON sound wave devices are designed for local vibration therapy. Vari-
ous attachments are available to apply the mechanical vibrations to the tis-
sue. NOVAFON sound wave devices are primarily used in pain therapy and
neurorehabilitation. Owing to the safe and simple use of our devices, local
vibration therapy is ideal for a variety of applications. NOVAFON sound wave
devices are available with one frequency level (100 Hz) or with two levels (50
Hz / 100 Hz).
2.1. DEVICE TYPES
The individual device types differ in terms of the frequency settings, inten-
sity, alloy type of the device housing (chrome-plated, gold-plated or plastic)
and housing shape and with respect to the accessories they include (with or
without extension handle).
2.1.1. NOVAFON pro
The all-rounder comes with two frequency levels, 50 Hz and 100 Hz, and is
able to send vibrations deep into the tissue. The folding extension handle is
designed for maximum ease of use.
2.1.2. NOVAFON power
This is the most powerful among our sound wave devices as it uses the
strongest vibrations. The NOVAFON power comes with two frequency lev-
els, 50 Hz and 100 Hz, and provides the highest intensity.
2.1.3. NOVAFON classic
This is the original version of the NOVAFON sound wave devices. It has
proved its worth in local vibration therapy for many years. It comes with
one 100 Hz frequency level.
2.1.4. NOVAFON soft
This is the most gentle sound wave device. It comes with one 100 Hz
frequency level. Owing to the lower amplitude, the transmitted vibra-
tions are weaker.

2.2. ACCESSORIES
All NOVAFON sound wave devices come standard with two exchange-
able attachments. The sound plate and sound ball can be easily switched
out by loosening (anticlockwise) and tightening (clockwise) the attach-
ment. Novafon GmbH company offers additional attachments, which
are not included in the scope of supply. Please contact your retailer for
further information.
2.2.1. Disk attachment (for NOVAFON pro)
The disk attachment is designed for the treatment of larger body regions
that can be easily treated by using the device in a sweeping motion. The disk
attachment is included in the delivery. It can also be ordered as a replace-
ment part.

2.2.2. Disk attachment (for NOVAFON power, NOVAFON classic,
NOVAFON soft)
The disk attachment is designed for the treatment of larger body regions
that can be easily treated by using the device in a sweeping motion. The
disk attachment is included in the delivery. It can also be ordered as a
replacement part.
2.2.3. Ball attachment
The ball attachment can be used in the treatment of smaller target areas
and individual spots. It is included in the delivery, but it can also be or-
dered as a replacement part.
3. OPERATION
3.1. DEVICE START-UP
Plug the power plug into a power outlet that provides the specified volt-
age. Ensure that the cable is not stretched to a length of over 3 metres
as the cable might break. Use an extension cord, if required. Turn on the
NOVAFON device using the flip switch . This flip switch is also used
to select the frequency level in the NOVAFON pro and power models
.
3.2. INTENSITY CONTROL
The intensity can be adjusted by turning the control knob . Turning
the control knob clockwise (viewed from the top) reduces the intensity.
Consequently, turning the control knob counter-clockwise increases the
intensity. Please bear in mind that you need to turn the control knob
several times to reach the highest or lowest intensity. We recommend
that you start at a low intensity and then increase it as required and sub-
ject to individual sensitivity levels. Do not apply any pressure when using
the NOVAFON device. Instead of enhancing treatment effectiveness, this
would interfere with the vibratory performance. Perfect vibrations are
generated by the mere contact of the NOVAFON device with the skin.
3.3. ATTACHMENTS
The disk attachment and ball attachment attachments can be easily replaced.
Unscrew the attachment counter-clockwise to remove it or turn it clockwise
to tighten it.

4. APPLICATIONS & USE
The local vibration therapy with the NOVAFON sound wave device can
be used as a supporting measure in a number of diseases of the muscu-
loskeletal and the nervous system. For example, NOVAFON sound wave
devices are used by physicians and therapists for the treatment of pain in
the musculoskeletal system (e.g. muscular or joint pain) and in the rehabil-
itation of neurological diseases (e.g. spasticity or neglect after stroke). Due
to their simple handling, the devices can also be used in the home environ-
ment. Please note that the NOVAFON sound wave devices can only allevi-
ate symptoms but never actually cure the underlying disease, nor replace a
doctor’s visit. Despite being safe, simple and non-invasive, we recommend
that you discuss the treatment with your treating physician or therapist. If
symptoms get worse, seek medical advice. Discontinue the treatment im-
mediately, if you experience nausea, dizziness, increased pain, or skin irrita-
tion. Please always pay attention to the contraindications listed in chapter 5.
4.1. SELF-APPLICATION AT HOME
Taking into account the contraindications (chapter 5), the NOVAFON is guid-
ed on or around the treatment area in a straight line, selectively or in slow cir-
cular movements. The NOVAFON can also be applied at trigger points near
the painful area. In case of uncertainty, please consult your treating physician
or therapist regarding your individual application. The NOVAFON can be
used directly on the skin or through fabric/clothing. During the application,
make sure that the sound wave device glides gently and without pressure
over the body area. Use the entire surface of the attachment. This is the only
way the penetration depth eect of the NOVAFON can be fully deployed
and the vibrations are transmitted optimally. Use only the NOVAFON’s own
weight for a comfortable application.

The therapeutic application should not exceed a maximum of two 20-minute
treatment units per day. Please note that the NOVAFON must be switched
o for 15 minutes after using it for 20 minutes in order to avoid overheating.
When applied to sensitive areas (e.g. face, neck, head) or severely painful
body parts, the duration of application duration should be reduced and ad-
justed to accommodate the individual needs.
NOTE
Application of liniments (medicated topical preparations): Generally, only ap-
ply small amounts of creams, ointments, cosmetic or medicated liniments on
the skin or place a fine cloth between the device and the skin. Do not allow
liquids or residues to penetrate the NOVAFON so as not to damage it.
4.2. PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION IN NEUROREHABILITATION
Note: The use of local vibration therapy for neurological diseases should only
be carried out by specialists (therapists, physicians, nurses) or after detailed
instruction by such a person.
4.2.1. Spasticity
Spasticity is a common sequence of stroke and other disorders of the cen-
tral and peripheral nervous system. Local vibration therapy, combined with
physiotherapy, provides a simple and drug-free treatment method. A vari-
ety of studies demonstrated a reduction in spasticity as well as improved
motor control and function. The mechanisms of eectiveness are the tonic
vibration reflex and the excitation of the sensorimotor cortex. Taking into
account the contraindications (chapter 5), the spastic muscle itself (flexors) is
treated with 50 Hz (level 2) and the antagonist of the spastic muscle (exten-
sors) with 100 Hz (level 1). The starting point can be directly on the tendon or
on the muscle. It may be treated locally, i.e. focus on one point, or in sweep-
ing movements. The application with the NOVAFON sound wave device
should not exceed 20 minutes per unit. The treatment can be performed up
to 5 times a week. Please keep in mind that using the appliance incorrectly
can lead to increased muscle tone. Stop the treatment immediately if any
side eects occur (see section 5).
4.2.2. Neglect
Several studies have shown an improvement in the visual exploration perfor-
mance in stroke patients with neglect when the neck muscles, contralateral
to the lesion, were stimulated by vibration. This eect stems from the fact
that the stretch receptors in the muscles and tendons of the neck are stim-
ulated by vibration, resulting in an apparent rotation of the head. To carry

out the therapy, the corresponding stimulation point must be found on the
contra-lesional, posterior neck muscles, taking into account the contraindica-
tions (chapter 5). This point is determined by fixing a bright spot on the wall
(e.g. by means of a laser pointer) in a darkened room. The therapist slowly
guides the NOVAFON sound wave device along the neck muscles at medium
intensity. The patient sits on a chair for the treatment. The correct stimula-
tion point is determined as soon as the patient reports that the fixed point
is moving without moving his/her head. The total treatment time should not
exceed 40 minutes, whereby the pure stimulation time should be interrupted
by a 5 minute break after 10 minutes. A total of at least 15 treatment sessions
are necessary to achieve a lasting eect. Stop the treatment immediately if
any side eects occur (see section 5).
5. CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not perform any treatment with the NOVAFON sound wave devices
if the following contraindications apply:
• open wounds / eczema / on mucous membranes
• arteriosclerosis
• recent episodes of epilepsy
• pregnancy
• metallic implants
• pacemakers
• thrombosis
• deep-brain stimulators
• cardiac arrhythmia
• tumours
Side effects:
Please note that in rare cases the following side effects may occur:
• Increased pain / unpleasant sensation
• Nausea / dizziness
• Skin irritation
• Reflex / involuntary muscle contractions
Please stop the treatment immediately, should any of these side effects
occur. Please note that slight reddening and warming of the skin is not
a cause for concern. This is a desired effect of local vibration therapy,
which is caused by the increased blood flow.

7. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Correct and safe operation of the NOVAFON sound wave device can
only be ensured if NOVAFON accessories are used. Before starting to
use the device, please read the user manual and these safety instructions
carefully and strictly follow them.
Warning: Do not modify this device without the manufacturer’s prior
consent.
• Handle the device carefully.
• Always store the device in a dry and clean location.
• Before each use, check the device for any signs of damage or wear.
• Do not use the device and have it repaired by the customer service if
any of the following conditions occur:
> if the power cable or plug is damaged.
> if the device fails to work correctly.
> if the device is damaged.
> if the device exhibits safety-related problems.
• Use an extension cord if the distance to the power outlet is over 3m.
• Before connecting the device to the power source, check that the
mains voltage corresponds to the voltage specification on the trans-
former. Connect the device only to a power source that delivers the
correct voltage.
• To disconnect the device, unplug the power plug from the
power outlet. Never pull the cable.
• Never leave the device unattended when it is turned on.
• Do not use the device and transformer for over 20 minutes per
application. Leave it to cool down for at least 15 minutes before
you continue.
• Avoid any contact of the power cable with hot surfaces.
• Never use the device when taking a shower or bath or in an
explosive atmosphere.
• Never place the device into water or other liquids.
• Protect the device and transformer from impact and shocks.
• During treatment, only hold the handle or (extended) extension
handle of the device.
• Wireless communication devices (e.g. WiFi stations, mobile
phones, cordless phones and their base stations) may interfere
with the sound wave devices and should be kept at a minimum
distance of 1.6 m during treatment.
• Keep the device out of the reach of children.
• When using the device, bear in mind that the cable may cause a
strangulation hazard.

8. SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
8.1. CLEANING & DISINFECTION
Disconnect the device from the power source for cleaning. If the device
is used privately at home, clean the device housing and attachment ele-
ments with a clean cloth moistened with clear water or use a household
disinfectant. If the device is used in a professional or clinical setting, clean
and disinfect the housing, disk attachment and ball attachment with a
medical surface disinfectant such as Wet Wipe “PHMB Disinfection”
wipes before and after each use. Allow the disinfectant to work for 60
seconds and then wipe with a dry cloth, if necessary.
8.2. TROUBLESHOOTING
Contact our Customer Service if any defects or failures occur.
8.3. SAFETY CHECKS
The NOVAFON device does not require any of the safety checks defined
in Annex 1 of the German Regulation on the Installation, Operation and
Use of Medical Devices (MPBetreibV). However, if routine checks are de-
sired, they should be performed at intervals of five years. Routine checks
and service work must be performed by authorized personnel only.
8.4. DISPOSAL
The disposal of the NOVAFON device is subject to the requirements of
the EU Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE Di-
rective). It must not be disposed of in municipal waste. Users are required
to use designated collection points when disposing of waste electrical
and electronic equipment to minimize environmental impact. You are
free to return your old device to NOVAFON. We will take care of its
disposal for you.
9. WARRANTY
The device is warranted against defects in materials or workmanship for
a period of two (2) years from the date of delivery. Warranty coverage is
subject to the presentation of a proof of purchase. Please contact your
dealer directly for any warranty claims. The right of rescission (cancella-
tion of purchase), the right to demand a reduction in the purchase price
(discount) or the right to demand subsequent delivery are generally ex-
cluded. However, the buyer is entitled, at its own discretion, to demand
a reduction in the purchase price or withdraw from the purchase if the
seller fails to remedy a defect covered by the warranty within a reason-
able period of time.

Any damage caused by failure to use the device in accordance with its
intended use is not covered by the warranty. Such damage is the sole
responsibility of the user. The power cable must not be stretched to a
length of over 3 metres. If a greater distance needs to be covered, an
extension cord must be used. Otherwise the cable may break. Failure to
comply with these instructions will void the warranty.
10. CUSTOMER SERVICE
The NOVAFON device requires precise adjustment. Consequently, any
necessary repairs must be performed exclusively by the NOVAFON
Customer Service. Please do not send in your defective device without
first contacting us by telephone to report the damage and determi-
ne the scope of the repair. The repair might be more expensive than a
new device. If, during the warranty period, the repair of a device proves
too costly, NOVAFON will offer a replacement device (to which a full
24-months’ warranty period will apply).

1. VORWORT
Mit dem Original NOVAFON Schallwellengerät haben Sie eine gute Wahl ge-
troffen. Unsere Therapiegeräte bewähren sich seit Jahrzehnten. Damit Sie Ihr
NOVAFON Schallwellengerät optimal nutzen können und lange Freude daran
haben, lesen Sie sich bitte die folgenden Seiten bitte aufmerksam durch.
2. PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNG
Die NOVAFON Schallwellengeräte werden zur lokalen Vibrationstherapie
eingesetzt. Über verschiedene Aufsätze werden mechanische Vibrationen in
das Gewebe geleitet. Einsatz finden die NOVAFON Schallwellengeräte vor
allem in der Schmerztherapie und Neurorehabilitation. Durch die sichere und
einfache Anwendung, kann die lokale Vibrationstherapie vielseitig eingesetzt
werden. Schallwellengeräte von NOVAFON bieten wahlweise eine Frequenz-
stufe (100Hz) oder zwei Frequenzstufen (50 Hz/ 100Hz).
2.1. GERÄTETYPEN
Die verschiedenen Gerätetypen unterscheiden sich neben den Frequenzein-
stellungen, der Intensität, der Legierung des Gehäuses (verchromt, vergol-
det oder Kunststoff) und der Gehäuseform durch die Ausstattung (mit oder
ohne Verlängerungsbügel).
2.1.1. NOVAFON pro
Das Multitalent kann mittels zweier Frequenzstufen, 50 Hz und 100 Hz, Vibra-
tionen tief ins Gewebe senden und ist durch den ausklappbaren Verlänge-
rungsbügel besonders einfach handzuhaben.
2.1.2. NOVAFON power
Das Kraftpaket arbeitet mit besonders starker Vibration und verfügt nicht
nur über zwei Frequenzstufen, 50 und 100Hz, sondern auch über die höchste
Intensität.
2.1.3. NOVAFON classic
Das Original – seit vielen Jahren bewährt in der Lokalen Vibrationsthera-
pie. Es ist mit einer Frequenzstufe von 100 Hz ausgestattet.
2.1.4. NOVAFON soft
Das sanfteste Schallwellengerät. Es verfügt über eine Frequenzstufe von
100 Hz. Die Vibrationen werden dank geringerer Amplitude schwächer
übertragen.

2.2. ZUBEHÖR
Alle NOVAFON Schallwellengeräte sind standardmäßig mit zwei aus-
wechselbaren Aufsätzen ausgestattet. Die Aufsätze Schallteller und
Schallkugel lassen sich durch einfaches Losdrehen (gegen den Uhrzeiger-
sinn) und Zudrehen (im Uhrzeigersinn) austauschen. Die Firma Novafon
GmbH bietet noch weitere Aufsätze, die nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten
sind. Sprechen Sie hierzu bitte Ihren Händler an.
2.2.1. Schallteller (für NOVAFON pro)
Der Telleraufsatz kommt bei der Behandlung von größeren und gut abzu-
streichenden Körperpartien zum Einsatz. Er ist im Lieferumfang enthalten
und ist auch als Ersatzteil erhältlich.

2.2.2. Schallteller (für NOVAFON power, NOVAFON classic,
NOVAFON soft)
Der Telleraufsatz kommt bei der Behandlung von größeren und gut abzu-
streichenden Körperpartien zum Einsatz. Er ist im Lieferumfang enthalten
und ist auch als Ersatzteil erhältlich.
2.2.3. Schallkugel
Die Schallkugel kann für kleinflächigere und punktuelle Behandlung ge-
nutzt werden. Sie ist im Lieferumfang enthalten und ist auch als Ersatzteil
erhältlich.
3. BEDIENUNG
3.1. INBETRIEBNAHME
Stecken Sie den Netzstecker in eine der angegebenen Stromspannung
entsprechende Steckdose. Achten Sie darauf, dass das Kabel nicht über
3 Meter gedehnt werden darf, da sonst die Gefahr eines Kabelbruches
besteht. Verwenden Sie ggf. ein Verlängerungskabel. Schalten Sie das
NOVAFON über die Betätigung des Kippschalters ein. Über diesen
Kippschalter lässt sich bei den Modellen pro und power auch die Fre-
quenzeinstellung verändern .
3.2. STÄRKENREGULIERUNG
Die Regulierung der Intensität erfolgt durch Drehen des Regulierungs-
drehknopfes . Bei Sicht von oben auf den Drehknopf bedeutet Rechts-
drehung des Knopfes, also im Uhrzeigersinn gedreht: Reduzierung der In-
tensität. Dementsprechend erfolgt bei Linksdrehung, also entgegen dem
Uhrzeigersinn eine Verstärkung der Intensität. Bitte beachten Sie, dass
Sie den Drehknopf mehrere Male drehen müssen, um die jeweils höchste
und niedrigste Intensität zu erreichen. Wir empfehlen, mit einer gerin-
gen Intensität zu beginnen und diese dann nach Bedarf und individuellem
Empfinden zu erhöhen. Ein Aufdrücken des NOVAFONs vergrößert nicht
seine Wirkkraft, sondern stört das Schwingungsverhalten. Die optimale
Schwingung wird allein durch die Auflagekraft des NOVAFONs erreicht.
3.3. AUFSÄTZE

4. ANWENDUNG
Die lokale Vibrationstherapie mit dem NOVAFON Schallwellengerät kann
bei einer Reihe von Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparates und des Ner-
vensystems als unterstützende Maßnahme eingesetzt werden. So werden
NOVAFON Schallwellengeräte von Ärzten und Therapeuten therapiebe-
gleitend zur Behandlung von Schmerzen des Bewegungsapparates (z.B.
Muskel- oder Gelenkschmerzen) und in der Rehabilitation von neuro-
logischen Erkrankungen (z.B. Spastiken oder Neglect nach Schlaganfall)
eingesetzt. Aufgrund ihrer einfachen Handhabung können die Geräte
auch im häuslichen Umfeld genutzt werden. Bitte beachten Sie, dass die
NOVAFON Schallwellengeräte lediglich Symptome lindern, niemals aber
die Grunderkrankung heilen, und auch nicht den Arztbesuch ersetzen
können. Trotz der sicheren, einfachen und nicht-invasiven Anwendung,
empfehlen wir Ihnen die Behandlung idealerweise mit Ihrem behandeln-
den Arzt oder Therapeuten abzusprechen. Bei Verschlechterung der
Symptomatik holen Sie sich bitte ärztlichen Rat ein. Brechen Sie die Be-
handlung unverzüglich ab, sollten sich Unwohlsein, Schwindel, verstärkte
Schmerzen oder Hautirritationen einstellen. Bitte beachten Sie stets die
in Kapitel 5 aufgelisteten Gegenanzeigen.
4.1. SELBSTANWENDUNG ZU HAUSE
Unter Beachtung der Gegenanzeigen (Kapitel 5) wird das NOVAFON ge-
radlinig, punktuell oder in langsam kreisenden Bewegungen auf oder um
die zu behandelnde Stelle geführt. Das NOVAFON kann auch an Trig-
gerpunkten in der Nähe des schmerzenden Bereiches angesetzt werden.
Bei Unsicherheit halten Sie bitte Rücksprache mit Ihrem behandelnden
Arzt oder Therapeuten bezüglich Ihrer individuellen Anwendung. Das
NOVAFON kann sowohl direkt auf der Haut als auch durch Textilien an-
gewendet werden. Achten Sie beim Ansetzen des Schallwellengerätes

darauf, dass dieses locker und ohne Druck auf der Körperregion aufliegt.
Benutzen Sie die gesamte Fläche des Aufsatzes. Nur so kann sich die Tie-
fenwirkung des NOVAFONs voll entfalten und die Schwingungen werden
optimal übertragen. Nutzen Sie für eine komfortable Auflage lediglich
das Eigengewicht des NOVAFON.
Die therapeutische Einzelanwendung sollte eine maximale Dauer von
2 Behandlungseinheiten à 20 Minuten pro Tag nicht überschreiten. Dabei
ist zu beachten, dass das NOVAFON nach 20 Minuten Inbetriebnahme
für 15 Minuten ausgeschaltet werden muss, um eine Überhitzung zu ver-
meiden. Bei der Behandlung empfindlicher (z.B. Gesicht, Hals, Kopf) oder
stark schmerzender Körperpartien sollte die Anwendungsdauer reduziert
und individuell angepasst werden.
HINWEIS
Anwendung von Einreibemitteln: Tragen Sie Cremes, Salben, kosmetische
oder medikamentöse Einreibemittel grundsätzlich nur dünn auf die Haut
auf oder legen Sie ein feines Tuch zwischen Gerät und Haut. Es dürfen
keine Flüssigkeiten oder Rückstände in das NOVAFON eindringen, damit
dieses nicht beschädigt wird.
4.2. PROFESSIONELLE ANWENDUNG IN DER NEUROREHABILITATION
Hinweis: Der Einsatz der Lokalen Vibrationstherapie bei neurologischen
Erkrankungen ist nur von Fachpersonal (Therapeuten, Ärzten, Pflegekräf-
ten) oder nach ausführlicher Einweisung durch eine solche Person durch-
zuführen.
4.2.1. Spastiken
Spastiken sind eine häufige Folge von Schlaganfällen und anderen
Erkrankungen des zentralen und peripheren Nervensystems. Die Lokale
Vibrationstherapie bietet in Verbindung mit Physiotherapie eine einfache
und medikamentenfreie Behandlungsmethode. Eine Vielzahl von Studien
konnte eine Reduktion der Spastik, sowie eine verbesserte motorische
Kontrolle und Funktion nachweisen. Die Wirksamkeitsmechanismen sind
dabei der Tonische Vibrationsreflex und die Anregung des sensomotori-
schen Kortex. Unter Beachtung der Kontraindikationen (Kapitel 5) wird der
spastische Muskel selbst (Flexoren) mit 50 Hz (Stufe 2) und der Antagonist
des spastischen Muskels (Extensoren) mit 100 Hz (Stufe 1) behandelt. Der
Ansatzpunkt kann sowohl an der Sehne als auch am Muskel direkt sein.
