1. FOREWORD
It is our pleasure to be able to welcome you as a NOVAFON customer. You made a good
choice in purchasing the original NOVAFON sonic wave instrument. Our therapy devices
are easy to use, versatile, and have proven themselves over the decades. We recommend
that you read the following pages carefully in order to get maximum use from your NOVA-
FON sonic wave instrument and to ensure lasting enjoyment.
2. INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION
NOVAFON sonic wave instruments are available in dierent versions but they all operate
according to the same mechanical principle: a moving coil inside the device causes the
head (plate or ball attachment) to vibrate. Vibrations produced by the NOVAFON sonic
wave device are periodic mechanical oscillations within the audible frequency range. They
are applied to the tissue vertically and have an eective range of up to 6 cm in depth.
The various devices primarily dier in terms of the number of settings (1 or 2), eective
depth (4.2 or 6 cm), plating material (chrome-plated, gold-plated, or plastic), outer casing,
and features (with or without back handle).
The first setting is the basic setting with which all of the devices are fitted. The SK2
chrome-plated model and SK1 gold-plated model both additionally feature a pummel/
percussion setting (setting 2).

Setting 2 = Pummel/Percussion: 60 vibrations per second
Each device also features a fully-adjustable intensity dial which enables fine tuning.
Two massage attachments are included in the delivery of all devices: sonic plate and sonic
ball (See Chapter 2.2). The SK2 chrome-plated instrument includes a retractable, extendable
handle that makes it easier to treat areas of the body which are harder to reach.
2.1. Instrument types
2.1.1. SK2 chrome-plated - The Versatile
The SK2 therapy instrument is equipped with two switch settings and a retractable exten-
sion. It is eective to a depth of 6 cm. The SK2 is particularly versatile and is suitable for all
NOVAFON applications.
2.1.2. SK1 gold-plated - The Powerful
The gold-plated SK1 therapy instrument is equipped with two switch settings and is cali-
brated for power. This means that the vibrations it produces are stronger than those of the
other devices. It is eective to a depth of 6 cm. This therapy instrument is ideally suited to
massaging particularly taut muscles and treating trigger points.

2.1.3. SK1 chrome-plated - The Original
This is the original NOVAFON sonic wave instrument in its original form. It is fitted with a
single switch setting and is eective to a depth of 6 cm.
2.1.4. SK1 plastic - The “Sonossage”
The SK1 therapy instrument is made from plastic, it comes equipped with a single switch
setting and was designed for cosmetic purposes. With an eective depth of 4.2 cm it is
exceptionally gentle. The SK1 plastic is available in a range of colours.
2.2. Accessories
All devices come with two interchangeable attachments: the sonic plate and sonic ball.
2.2.1. Sonic ball
The sonic ball can be used to massage parts of body that are less easily reached and to treat
isolated areas. It is included in the delivery and can also be purchased separately.
2.2.2. Sonic plate
The plate attachment is used to massage body parts that are easy to pass over. It is inclu-
ded in the delivery and can also be purchased separately.
3. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3.1. Initial operation
Insert the mains plug into a power socket which corresponds to the specified voltage.
Ensure that the cable is not stretched in excess of 3 metres, as this could cause the cable to
break. If necessary, use an extension cord.
The following functions are provided for the devices:

the right i.e. in a clockwise direction decreases the intensity. Correspondingly, turning the
dial to the left i.e. in an anti-clockwise direction increases the intensity. We recommend
you begin with a low intensity, then increase it if and when necessary. Applying pressure
with the instrument does not increase its eectiveness, in fact it only impedes the vibrato-
ry performance. Optimal vibration is achieved by simply allowing the device’s own weight
to rest on the skin.
3.3. Massage attachments
The two attachments (sonic ball and sonic plate) can be easily interchanged by unscrewing
them while applying a small amount of pressure on the device. Should accessories need
to be replaced due to normal wear and tear, you can order the corresponding spare parts
from your supplier.
4. OPERATION
The NOVAFON instrument produces sonic waves with mixed frequencies of between 100
and 400 Hertz (the audible frequency range) and has an eective depth of 6 cm or more.
Therefore, the vibrations which are produced lie within a frequency range that can be
directly felt at the point of contact and in the surrounding area. In this sense NOVAFON
sonic wave therapy can be compared to vibration therapy. The NOVAFON sonic wave
instrument’s depth eectiveness depends on the directed force with which the oscilla-
tions or vibrations are vertically applied to the tissue and spread by means of the massage
attachment. A study by the Fraunhofer Institute (IBP - report 113/84) demonstrated that
the depth eectiveness of at least 6 cm (this applies to all chrome-plated and gold-plated
versions of the instrument) is a measurable value. The findings of this study show that the
deep penetrative eect of sonic wave treatment can be attained by both direct applica-
tion to the bone and to relatively soft tissue.
5. USAGE
The NOVAFON instrument is passed over or around the area to be treated using linear
strokes or in slow circular motions. Unless otherwise prescribed, treatment can be carried
out twice a day (or more often if necessary) for a duration of between 15 to 20 minutes
respectively. The duration of the application can be reduced when treating sensitive or
very sore parts of the body. The instrument does not have to be used on bare skin. Treating
areas covered by clothes or by a thin cloth allows the device to glide more smoothly.
Textiles have a negligible influence on the deep penetrative eect.
5.1. Fields of application
The list of sonic wave treatment applications entails a wide range of uses for NOVAFON
sonic wave instruments. They are employed by doctors, therapists and clinics as an accom-
paniment to therapy, but they can also be used for a range of applications in the home
thanks to their ease of use. In case of serious illnesses, information on correct usage should
sought from the treating physician or therapist.

5.1.1. Wellness applications
NOVAFON sonic wave instruments are exceptionally well-suited to wellness applications
such as relaxing full-body massages, invigorating foot and leg massages, and soothing face
massages. For sustainable results the treatment listed here should be carried out daily; or
even multiple times per day, e.g. mornings and evenings.
Useful tips for leg massages
Using the plate attachment massage from bottom to top in stroking or gently circular
motions. Always move the NOVAFON in one direction. When used for leg massages the
device should always be moved from bottom to top, i.e. towards the heart. This relieves
strain from the legs while stimulating lymph circulation. The massage should last between
10 and 15 minutes and should include both legs.
Useful tips for back massages
Using the plate attachment move the device over the sore area either in linear strokes or
in slow circular motions. During the treatment you should constantly slowly massage from
top to bottom (or vice versa) to the left and right of the spine. Once you have massaged
in one direction, lift the device from the skin, then recommence from where you initially
began. The treatment should last between 15 and 20 minutes.
Useful tips for facial massages
Massage in circular or stroking movements. Use the sonic plate for the middle of the face.
Begin massaging at the bridge of the nose: rub from here outwards over the face. Massage
the whole cheek area in this way. Include the cheekbones and rub gently in the direction
of the ear. Eyes: Place the NOVAFON under the eye and circle around it gently without
applying direct pressure. Begin massaging the bony part around the eye sockets. Do not di-
rectly massage the eyes or the eyelids. Lips: Use the sonic ball and place the device around
the edge of the lips. Slowly move the NOVAFON around the mouth in circular motions.
5.1.2. Applications to accompany therapy
Vibration therapy using NOVAFON can be eective as a supporting measure for serious
illnesses, however it does not replace a visit to the doctor. Ideally, its application should be
arranged with the treating doctor or therapist.
In accordance with the contra-indications (Chapter 5.3) the use of the instrument is depen-
dent on the subjective perception of the person being treated. The device can also be used
in compliance with the symptom: placed directly on or in the immediate vicinity of the
aching area, on the antagonistic muscle and/or the antagonistic tendon, on trigger points
near the aching area (or even acupuncture points), or contralateral to the aching area.

5.2. Application of liniments
As a rule only apply cremes, ointments, and cosmetic/medicinal liniments to the skin after
NOVAFON treatment. Using the device prior to application of these compounds stimu-
lates blood flow, which in turns leads to a more ecient uptake of the active ingredients
contained in them. If you nevertheless wish to apply ointments or cremes before NOVA-
FON treatment, we recommend you place a fine cloth between the instrument and skin.
Otherwise the residue left by these compounds may damage the device.

5.3. Contra-indications and side effects
In case of doubt consult your doctor or therapist.
5.3.1. Contra-indications
The following people should consult their doctor before first use:
• People with carotid stenosis (prior to application in the area of the carotid
artery/larynx)
• People with cardiac pacemakers, artificial heart valves, or cardiac arrhythmias
• People with a stent
• People with a shunt
• People with a deep brain stimulation device (DBS)
• Epileptics
• Pregnant women
The instrument must not be used:
• directly on implants (or near implants until they have completely healed)
• directly on screws
• directly on artificial joints
• directly on inflamed joints and veins
• in the case of inflammatory skin disorders
• directly on weeping eczema
• in the case of other inflammatory processes generally associated with fever
• near diseased veins
• on the stomach or back of a pregnant woman
Treatment should not commence until three days after injury at the earliest:

5.3.2. Side effects
No significant medical risks are to be expected if the described precautions and contra-in-
dications are observed.
5.3.3. Combination with other products
The NOVAFON sonic wave instrument is not intended to be combined with other pro-
ducts. The use of the NOVAFON sonic wave instrument on or near medical devices is not
recommended.

7. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The proper and safe function of the device can be guaranteed only with the use of NOVA-
FON accessories. Read these safety instructions carefully prior to use:
• Handle the device carefully.
• Only store the appliance in a clean and dry place at temperatures between + 10 °C
and + 40 °C.
• Check the unit before each use for signs of damage or wear.
• In each of the following cases the unit must not be used and must be repaired by
a member of the customer service department:
> If the power cable or plug is damaged
> If the device does not work properly
> If the device is damaged
> If the equipment has obvious safety flaws
• Use an extension cord if the distance to the socket is greater than 3 metres.
• Before connecting the unit to the mains check whether the mains voltage
corresponds with the voltage indicated on the transformer. Connect the device
only to the right voltage.
• Unplug the unit from the mains by pulling out the plug, never pull on the cable.
• Never leave the unit switched on while unattended.
• Use the unit and the transformer for a maximum of 20 minutes per application,
leave it to cool for at least 15 minutes afterwards.
• Do not let the power cable come into contact with hot surfaces.
• Never use the unit while bathing, showering or in potentially explosive
environments.
• Never put the unit in water or in other liquids.
• Never bring the unit into direct contact with cremes, ointments, and cosmetic/

medicinal compounds.
• Avoid knocking the unit or transformer.
• Use an attachment for only one patient at any one time; resp. clean and sterilize
it after each use.
• During treatment only hold the appliance by the handle or by the retractable
extension.
8. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
8.1. Cleaning and disinfection
Disconnect the unit from the mains before cleaning. Use a cloth moistened with clean,
clear water to clean the unit housing and attachments. If you use the instrument on more
than one person, disinfect the accessories with a damp cloth and a non-aggressive cleaning
product.
8.2. Instructions in case of defects
If defects with the unit occur, please contact our customer service team in order to discuss
suitable measures.
8.3. Safety test
There is no safety check required for the NOVAFON instrument in accordance with appen-
dix 1 of the medical devices operator ordinance (MPBetreibV). Should a routine inspection
be required, we recommend a period of five years. Routine inspections and servicing are
only to be carried out by authorised personnel.
8.4. Disposal
This device is subject to the EU directive regarding the disposal of waste electrical and
electronic equipment (WEEE). It should not be disposed with household waste. The user is
obliged to dispose of the unit in an environmentally-friendly way at a designated disposal
site for waste electrical and electronic equipment. You can send your old device back to
the NOVAFON company, we will happily dispose of it for you.
9. WARRANTY
From the date of delivery we guarantee—upon submission of the proof of purchase
a 2-year warranty against defects that arise due to material or production faults.
In case of complaint please contact your supplier directly. Initially, any right of
rescission of sale (cancellation of the purchase), reduction (reduction in the purchase
price) or subsequent supply is excluded. You do however reserve the statutory
right to claim a reduction or cancellation should we establish a defect covered
under the warranty which cannot be rectified within a reasonable period of time.
In addition we provide no guarantee for damage resulting from improper use. In these
cases, the liability is transferred to the operator.
Please be aware that the power cable may only be extended to a maximum length of 3

metres. Anything beyond this length requires an extension cord, as otherwise there is a risk
of the cable breaking thus rendering the warranty invalid.
10. CUSTOMER SERVICE
Since the NOVAFON instrument is a finely adjusted and precise device, it may only be
repaired by a member of the NOVAFON customer service department. However, in gen-
eral, repair is more costly than buying a new instrument. Therefore, please do not return
any faulty appliances to us unsolicited, but rather discuss the defect and the cost of repair
with us first.
If, while still under guarantee, repair is no longer cost eective, the NOVAFON company
will oer you a replacement (once again with a 24 month warranty).

1. PRÉFACE
Nous sommes heureux de vous accueillir en tant que client NOVAFON ! Avec l’appareil à
ondes sonores NOVAFON Original, vous avez fait le bon choix. Nos appareils de thérapie
ont fait leurs preuves depuis des décennies, ils sont d’un maniement facile et extrêmement
polyvalents. Afin de pouvoir utiliser votre appareil à ondes sonores de manière optimale et
d’en profiter pendant longtemps, veuillez lire attentivement les pages suivantes.
2. DESCRIPTION DE L’APPAREIL
Les appareils à ondes sonores NOVAFON sont disponibles dans diérentes versions qui
ont toutes le même principe de fonctionnement : la tête de massage (en forme d’assiette
ou de boule) est mise en vibration par une bobine mobile à l’intérieur de l’appareil. Les
vibrations sont des oscillations mécaniques générées par l’appareil à ondes sonores NOVA-
FON dans le domaine des sons audibles. Celles-ci agissent verticalement sur le tissu cutané
et peuvent se propager dans le corps jusqu’à une profondeur de 6 cm.
Les diérentes versions d’appareil se diérencient essentiellement par le nombre de crans
de marche (1 ou 2), par la profondeur d’action (4,2 ou 6 cm), par l’alliage (chromé, doré ou
plastique) ainsi que par la forme du boîtier et de l’équipement (avec ou sans poignée de
rallonge pliable).
Le premier cran de marche est le cran de base qui équipe tous les appareils. Les modèles
SK2 chromé et SK1 doré disposent en supplément d’un massage par tapotement/percus-
sion (deuxième cran de marche).
1er cran de marche = cran de base : 120 oscillations/seconde
2 ème cran de marche = massage par tapotement/percussion : 60 oscillations/seconde
Un variateur d’intensité à action progressive garantit pour tous les appareils un réglage fin
individuel. Tous les appareils sont fournis avec deux têtes de massage : en forme d’assiette
et en forme de boule (cf. chapitre 2.2.) Dans la version SK2 chromée une poignée de ral-
longe pliable facilite le traitement des parties du corps diciles à atteindre.
2.1. Types d’appareils
2.1.1. SK2 chromé – le polyvalent
L’appareil de thérapie SK 2 est équipé de deux crans de marche et d’une poignée de ral-
longe pliable. La profondeur d’action est de 6 cm. Le SK2 est d’utilisation particulièrement
polyvalente et est adapté à tous les usages NOVAFON.
2.1.2. SK1 doré - le puissant
L’appareil de thérapie doré SK1 est équipé de deux crans de marche et est ajusté de manière
particulièrement forte. Cela signifie que les vibrations produites sont plus fortes qu’avec les
autres appareils. La profondeur d’action est de 6 cm. Cet appareil de thérapie est particu-

lièrement bien adapté pour le massage de musculatures fortement contractées et pour le
traitement du point de fibromyalgie.
2.1.3. SK1 chromé - l’original
Cet appareil de thérapie est l’appareil à ondes sonores original de NOVAFON dans sa forme
initiale. Il est équipé d’un cran de marche et présente une profondeur d’action de 6 cm.
2.1.4. SK1 plastique - le « Sonossage »
L’appareil de thérapie en plastique est équipé d’un cran de marche et a été conçu à des fins
cosmétiques. Avec une profondeur d’action de 4,2 cm, il est particulièrement doux. Le SK1
en plastique est disponible en plusieurs couleurs.
2.2. Accessoires
Tous les appareils sont équipés de deux têtes de massage, l’une en forme d’assiette, l’autre
en forme de boule.
2.2.1. Tête forme boule
La tête en forme de boule peut être utilisée pour le massage de zones corporelles diciles
d’accès ou pour des traitements ponctuels. Elle est incluse dans la livraison et est égale-
ment disponible en tant que pièce de rechange.
2.2.2. Tête forme assiette
L’accessoire en forme d’assiette s’utilise pour le massage de parties corporelles devant
être bien frottées. Il est inclus dans la livraison et est également disponible en tant que
pièce de rechange.
3. UTILISATION
3.1. Mise en service
Insérez la fiche d’alimentation dans une prise de courant correspondant à la tension in-
diquée. Veillez à ce que le câble ne s’étire pas à plus de 3 mètres, sinon il y a un risque de
rupture de câble. Utilisez le cas échéant un câble de rallonge.

Les fonctions suivantes sont prévues pour les appareils :
3.2. Réglage de l’intensité
Le réglage de l’intensité s’eectue en tournant le bouton de réglage rotatif. Si on considère
le bouton de réglage rotatif vu de dessus, tourner le bouton à droite, à savoir dans le
sens des aiguilles d’une montre signifie réduction de l’intensité. Par voie de conséquence,
en tournant à gauche donc dans le sens contraire des aiguilles d’une montre l’intensité
augmente. Nous recommandons de commencer avec une faible intensité et ensuite de
l’augmenter selon les besoins et la sensibilité individuelle. Exercer une pression sur l’appareil
n’augmente pas son ecacité mais gêne le comportement oscillatoire. L’oscillation opti-
male est atteinte simplement par la force d’appui de l’appareil.
3.3. Têtes de massage
Les deux têtes de massage (forme boule et forme assiette) peuvent être remplacées sim-
plement en desserrant et en appuyant légèrement sur l’appareil. Si l’accessoire doit être
remplacé suite à un usage normal, vous pouvez commander la pièce de rechange corre-
spondante chez votre revendeur.
4. MODE D’ACTION
L’appareil NOVAFON génère des ondes sonores avec des fréquences de battement de
100 à 400 Hertz (son audible) et une profondeur d’action de 6 cm et plus. Les oscillations
générées se situent ainsi dans une bande de fréquence qui est directement perçue au point
de contact et à la périphérie. Ainsi, la thérapie NOVAFON par ondes sonores est assimilable
à la thérapie par vibration. L’action en profondeur des appareils à ondes sonores NOVAFON
repose sur la force verticale exercée sur les tissus par les oscillations ou les vibrations avant
leur diusion à l’aide de têtes de massage. L’action en profondeur d’au moins 6 cm (pour
toutes les variantes chromées et dorées) correspond à une valeur mesurable qui a été
déterminée par une étude Fraunhofer (IBP - rapport 113/84). Les résultats de cette étude
montrent que l’action en profondeur dans le traitement par ondes sonores peut être at-
teinte que ce soit dans l’utilisation directe sur les os ou sur des tissus relativement mous.

5. UTILISATION
L’appareil NOVAFON sera guidé longitudinalement ou en eectuant des mouvements cir-
culaires sur ou autour de l’endroit à traiter. Le traitement peut, sauf prescription contraire
être eectué deux fois par jour (ou plus souvent au besoin) pendant une durée de 15 à 20
minutes. Pour le traitement des parties du corps plus sensibles ou très douloureuses la
durée d’utilisation peut être réduite. L’appareil peut être utilisé directement sur la peau.
Le traitement sur une partie du corps habillée ou recouverte d’un linge fin favorise un
meilleur glissement de l’appareil. Les textiles ne réduisent que de façon négligeable l’action
en profondeur.
5.1. Domaines d’utilisation
La description du mode d’action du traitement par ondes sonores laisse entrevoir un grand
nombre de possibilités d’utilisation pour les appareils à ondes sonores NOVAFON. Ils sont
utilisés en accompagnement thérapeutique par des médecins, des thérapeutes et des
cliniques, ils peuvent également en raison de leur maniement simple être utilisés à domicile
de façon polyvalente. En cas de maladie sérieuse, la bonne conduite du traitement doit être
eectuée en accord avec le médecin ou thérapeute traitant.
5.1.1. Soins de bien-être
Les appareils à ondes sonores de NOVAFON sont parfaitement adaptés pour les soins
de bien-être tels que le massage relaxant de tout le corps, les massages revigorants des
pieds et des jambes et les soins apaisants du visage. Pour obtenir des résultats durables, les
traitements présentés ici doivent être eectués quotidiennement, si possible plusieurs fois
par exemple une fois le matin et une fois le soir.
Conseil d’utilisation massage des jambes
Choisissez pour cela la tête de massage en forme d’assiette. Masser par eeurement ou en
eectuant des mouvements circulaires doux de bas en haut et en déplaçant le NOVAFON
toujours dans la même direction. Dans le massage de la jambe, l’appareil est toujours dé-
placé de bas en haut, le massage se faisant en direction du cœur. Cela soulage les jambes et
stimule la circulation lymphatique. L’utilisation doit toujours être eectuée des deux côtés
et elle dure 10 à 15 minutes.
Conseil d’utilisation massage du dos
Choisissez pour cela la tête de massage en forme d’assiette. Déplacez l’appareil longitudi-
nalement ou en faisant des mouvements circulaires sur la partie du corps douloureuse. Lors
du traitement massez toujours lentement de haut en bas ou inversement de bas en haut
à gauche et à droite près de la colonne vertébrale. Arrêtez toujours en fin de parcours et
recommencez au point de départ. Le temps d’utilisation est de 15 à 20 minutes.
Conseil d’utilisation massage du visage
Massez en faisant des mouvements circulaires ou par eeurement. Pour la partie centrale
de votre visage, utilisez la tête en forme d’assiette. Le point de départ du massage est

l’appendice nasal. Le mouvement part toujours de là en allant vers l’extérieur tout en par-
courant le visage. Massez de la même manière toute la partie des joues. Prenez également
en compte les pommettes et eeurez-les doucement en direction de l’oreille. Contour
des yeux : posez le NOVAFON sous l’œil et eectuez avec douceur un mouvement circu-
laire sans exercer de pression autour de l’œil. Le point de départ du massage est la partie
osseuse autour des orbites. Ne pas poser directement sur l’œil ou sur les paupières. Lèvres:
utilisez la tête en forme de boule et posez-la sur le bord des lèvres. Déplacez NOVAFON
lentement dans un mouvement circulaire autour de la bouche.
5.1.2. Utilisation en accompagnement thérapeutique
La thérapie par vibration avec NOVAFON peut être ecace en tant que mesure de soutien
en cas de maladie sérieuse mais ne remplace en aucune façon la visite du médecin. Idéale-
ment, l’utilisation devrait être discutée avec le médecin traitant ou avec le thérapeute.
Tout en tenant compte des contre-indications (chapitre 5.3), l’appareil est utilisé selon
le ressenti subjectif des patients. Selon l’indication, l’appareil peut également être utilisé
dans les cas suivants : directement ou juste à côté de la zone douloureuse, sur le muscle
antagoniste ou le tendon antagoniste, au point de fibromyalgie, à proximité de la zone
douloureuse (ou également point d’acupuncture), de manière contra-latérale à la zone dou-
loureuse.

5.2. Utilisation des produits à frictionner
Appliquez sur la peau les crèmes, les pommades, les produits à frictionner cosmétiques
ou médicamenteux en principe uniquement après le traitement NOVAFON. L’utilisation
de l’appareil avant l’application de ces produits permet une meilleure réceptivité de leurs
principes actifs grâce à une amélioration de la circulation sanguine. Si vous souhaitez néan-
moins appliquer des pommades ou des crèmes avant utilisation, nous vous conseillons
de poser un linge entre l’appareil et la peau, sinon les résidus de ces préparations peuvent
endommager l’appareil.
5.3. Contre-indications et effets indésirables
En cas de doute, veuillez toujours interroger votre médecin traitant ou votre thérapeute !
5.3.1. Contre-indications
Les personnes suivantes doivent absolument consulter leur médecin avant la première
utilisation :
• Personnes atteintes de sclérose de la carotide (avant utilisation dans la zone de la
veine carotide / larynx)
• Personnes avec stimulateur cardiaque, valves cardiaques artificielles ou sourant
d’arythmie
• Personnes ayant un stent
• Personnes ayant un shunt
• Personnes ayant un stimulateur cérébral (SCP)
• Les épileptiques
• Les personnes enceintes
