asbestos. Please consult your
NSS branch or your NSS
dealer with regard to such

• Only operate the suction unit from
a suitable socket outlet with
earthing contact. Refer to the
Technical data for the necessary
main fuse.
• Connect to a properly grounded
outlet only - see Grounding
instructions.

GROUNDING
INSTRUCTIONS
This appliance must be grounded. If it should
malfunction or break down, grounding provides
a path of least resistance for electric current to
reduce the risk of electric shock.
Thisapplianceisequippedwithacordhavingan
equipmentgroundingconductorandgroundplug.
The plug must be inserted into an appropriate
outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING:
Improper connection of the
equipment-grounding conductor can result in
a risk of electric shock.
Check with a qualified electrician or service
person if you are in doubt as to whether the
outlet is properly grounded.
Do not modify the plug provided with the
appliance.
If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet
installed by a qualified electrician.
This appliance is for use on a nominal
120-volt circuit, and has a grounded plug
that looks like the plug illustrated in Fig.A.
A temporary adapter that looks like the
adapter illustrated in Fig.B, may be used to
connect this plug to a two-pole receptacle
as shown in Fig.B, if a properly grounded
outlet is not available.
The temporary adapter should be used only
until a properly grounded outlet (Fig.A) is
installed by a qualified electrican.
The green colored rigid ear, lug, or the like
extending from the adapter must be connec-
ted to a permanent ground such as a
properly grounded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adapter is used, it must be held
in place by a metal screw.
IN ALL CASES,

Servicing of
dou le-insulated
appliances
In a double-insulated appliance, two systems
of insulation are provided instead of grounding.
No grounding means is provided on a double-
insulated appliance, nor should a means for
grounding be added to the appliance. Servicing
a double-insulated appliance requires extreme
care and knowledge of the system, and should
be done only by qualified service personnel.
Replacement parts for a double-insulated ap-
pliance must be identical to the parts they
replace.

3.1 Connect the upper section of the vacuum
cleaner to the brush head
Unscrew both fastening screws from the upper section of the
vacuum cleaner before assembly.
Push the upper section of the vacuum cleaner upright onto the
brush head. Then insert the two aluminium sections into the
grooves provided on the upper section of the vacuum cleaner.
Fasten with screws. Tighten screws firmly. <Figure 2>
Connect the hose to the brush head and upper section of vacuum
cleaner. Plug the connecting cable with connector into the socket
onthe upper section (plug must audibly click into place).<Figure3>
3.2 Storingandremovingcable
The vacuum cleaner’s power cable can be wounded up around
the upper and lower cable clips. The entire cable can be easily
removed by turning the lower cable clip.
3.3 Onandoffpositions
The brush head has a pivot latch which locks the unit in the
upright off position. To operate, tread on the latched pedal and
tip the vacuum cleaner backwards. <Figure 4>
Caution: Do not drive the rotating brushes over the connec-
ting cable. Carry the unit over steps and high thresholds.
3.4 Working with the hand pipe <Figure 5>
Switch the unit on via the ON/OFF switch
Please note: The carpet brush switches on automatically
once the hand pipe with handle is firmly located in the motor
housing. Please check.
If the hand pipe with handle is pulled out of the motor housing
for vacuuming, the carpet brush switches off automatically.
The suction hose’s elasticity means that the effective working
radius can be increased.
The hose handle can be separated in the middle (bayonett
connection). The crevice and upholstery nozzle can be atta-
ched to both ends.
Important: Never use the hand pipe for vacuuming without
first attaching either the crevice nozzle or the upholstery
nozzle (the cleaner will malfunction if the end of the hand pipe
is worn down – see Section 6 for Troubleshooting).
The hand pipe is pushed upright into the motor housing.

3.5 Adjusting the carpet brush
Thecarpetbrushcanbeadjustedtomatchtheheightofthepile.
To do this, set the vacuum cleaner to the working position
(approx. 45º) and select the required setting between 1 and 4.

3.6 Electronicbrushmonitoring
Brush functioning is continuously supervised by electronic
brush monitoring.

set the pile height adjusting knob at a lower pile height
orange light on even at the lowest setting:
change brush strip.
3.7 Redindicatorlight
If the indicator light is on, please check the following:
a) is the filter bag full?
b) is the suction hose or connecting hose blocked?
Either exchange the filter bag or eliminate blockages.
Please note: There is no malfunction if, when vacuuming with
the suction hose, the hand pipe occludes and as a result the
light comes on.
3.8 Storing the vacuum cleaner
After using the vacuum cleaner store the power cable as descri-
bed in chapter 3.2. Clean unit and store cleaner in a dry place.

5. Care and maintenance
Caution: Before any maintenance work takes place, pull the
power plug out of the socket.
Check main cable, connection cable and hoses for damage
before putting the unit into operation for the first time.
5.1 Exchanging the paper filter bag <Figure 7>
• Depress the cover fastener and remove cover.
• Push the filter bag catch to the left until it is possible to pull
the filter bag off the connection piece.
Assembly:
• Insert the narrow end of the support card into the holder.
• Push the filter bag catch to the left and guide the support
card upwards over the connection piece until it slots in.
• Replace the cover.
Please note: If the cover does not close, check whether the
filter bag has been inserted properly.
5.2 Exchanging the safety filter <Figure 8>
After exchanging the filter bag approximately 20 times,
exchange safety filter.
• Press cover fastener and remove cover.
• Lift the red locking device and pull out the safety filter.
Assembly:
• Lift the red locking device and insert the safety filter.
Please note: If the cover does not close, check whether the
filter bag has been inserted properly.
5.3 Exchanging the exhaust filter <Figure 9>
After exchanging the filter bag approximately 20 times,
exchange the exhaust filter.
• Push the exhaust filter off the housing and withdraw.
Assembly:
• Insert new filter.
5.4 Exchanging the brush strip <Figure 10>
• Remove power cable from electrical outlet.
• Unscrew the brush head cover. Turn the brush so that the
brush strip can be pushed or pulled through the opening.
Assembly:
• Push home the new brush strip and screw the cover on
again.

6. In the event of malfunction
Caution: Danger from electrical current. Unplug the power cord
before any work is carried out on electrical parts.
Have all inspections and work to be carried out on electrical
parts done by a specialist. For more extensive tasks contact
customer service.
The brush and suction motor is switched off via the
built-in electronic system
Brush is blocked
– Unplug the power cord, check brush for any dirt and if
necessary remove the blockage. The unit now has to be
restarted.
Suction turbine switches off, brush head carries on
functioning (red indicator light goes off)
Thermal switch has disengaged motor due to overheating
– Unplug thepowercord,exchangeblockedfilteroreliminate
suction hose blockage. After approximately 20 minutes, the
unit will start up again.
Suction hose is blocked
Switch off the unit. Remove the flexible hose from the housing
andpullitstraight.Usesomethinglongtoreleasehoseblockage.
– The suction hose can be disconnected from the unit by
pressing the locking lever. <Figure 11>
Connecting hose is blocked
– The connecting hose can be removed by pulling out both
ends. Remove the blockage. <Figure 12>
Connection cable not inserted properly
Connect the upper section of the vacuum cleaner to the brush
head. Connect the hose to the brush head and upper section
of vacuum cleaner. Plug the connecting cable with connector
intothe socket onthe upper section(plug must audiblyclick into
place). <Figure 13>
Brushes in brush head are not rotating, suction turbine
is running
Hand pipe is not pushed into motor housing properly, or end is
worn down
– If the end of the pipe has been worn down (due to
vacuuming without first fitting the crevice or upholstery
nozzle),the end switch will not beactuated and the brushes
will not rotate.
Separating the brush head from the upper section of
the vacuum cleaner
• Undo the connecting cable, release the plug by pressing in
a pointed object (e.g. screwdriver). <Figure 14>
• The connecting hose can be removed by pulling out the two
ends.
• Undo both screws at the side of the upper section to the
vacuum cleaner.
