• The scanner : The handheld unit that performs the scan
• A calibration cap : Cap for ‘Standard sample’ and ‘Background scan’
calibrations
• A power socket : USB adapter + international plug types A and B
• A USB cable : Charging and reset cable for the scanner

2. Preparing the scanner before use
To maximise the lifespan of your scanner, prepare it for use by following the
steps below.
Charging instructions
Charge the battery by connecting the USB cable to the power socket and the
charging port on your scanner.
Expected power usage:
• On a fully charged battery, the scanner can perform around 250 scans, which
enables 35 samples, including calibration processes. To fully recharge it, charge
the scanner for 11 hours.
• In stand-by mode, the battery will slowly lose power.
• After two weeks in this mode, the battery will be empty.
Before first use, or if the scanner has not been used for more than
four weeks, charge the scanner for at least 18 hours through the
power socket provided.

3. Installing the mobile application
Downloading the Android application
The scanner is compatible with many Android mobile device applications. You can
find the NutriOpt On-site Adviser app in the Google Play Store.
Android device requirements
Use Android 5.0 or above. To download the NutriOpt On-site Adviser app
from the Google Play Store, your Google Play account should have a device
certification. This certification can be found in the Google Play Store setting under
‘Device certification’.
Once you have downloaded the app, it will request access to images and location
data on your device. This access is required to register the sample and obtain the
nutritional report.

4. Registering as a user
Before you start using the new scanner, you need to have an activated license with
a personal account. If you have not yet purchased a license, go to the following
link: webshop.agrocares.com. Here you will be able to obtain a license and
register your account.
Note: If you have already purchased a scanner, you have to have a valid license
before you are able to scan your samples.
The registration process for a new user requires the following steps:
• Go to the webshop: webshop.agrocares.com
• Select the products you need (scanner and/or license)
• Sign up as a new user
• Fill in all mandatory fields:
- Your filled in address will also be your shipping address, unless you want to
change it. Change of your shipping address is possible afterwards in your
account details.
Login to the mobile app
Download the NutriOpt On-site Adviser app from the Google Play Store. To login,
you can register as a new user the first time you use the NutriOpt On-site Adviser
app. Please insert the license key that you purchased via the webshop (webshop.
agrocares.com) here.
When you have registered and logged in to your mobile app, you can proceed
to the next step.

5. Start-up and connect
Turn the scanner on
• Press the scan button for three seconds.
The scanner will initiate the start-up sequence
indicated by beeping sounds and blinking
battery (yellow/green) and scan button (green)
lights. The scanner is ready to connect to the
phone when the Bluetooth (blue) light starts
blinking, the battery light is continuously on
and the scan button light is off.
Connect the scanner to your mobile application
• The scanner name is located on the back of the handle frame (see image below).
The scanner name consists of the letters ‘SC’, three or four digits and a letter that
indicates the device version.
• Open your app. Go to the menu ‘Account’. Click on ‘Select scanner’ in the bar
‘Device settings’. If you have previously connected the scanner to your phone,
you will find the device in the ‘Paired devices’ list.
• If the connection between phone and scanner is new, click on ‘Search for
devices’ and select your scanner name from the ‘Available devices’ list.
• When the connection between your phone and scanner is set, the Bluetooth light
will be continuously on.

6. Scanning a sample
Open the application and select the ‘Scan’ menu in order
to start your scanning process. The ‘Scan’ menu can also
be accessed via the client and field data.
The device is ready for a scan when the scan (green),
battery (yellow/green) and Bluetooth (blue) lights are
continuously on.
The app always indicates which scan is needed; to
calibrate, a white background or yellow background
scan will appear (for more information on how to
calibrate, see ‘Calibration process’). When the scan
has been finalised, an ‘OK’ symbol will be displayed in
the scanning step, and your phone will vibrate (if this is
switched on in your settings).
Important: Do not move the scanner during the scanning process!
App indicates if a white
or yellow background
is needed.

Calibration process
The calibration screen will be displayed once the scanner is correctly connected.
White background scan using the calibration cap:
• Before each scan, a white-background calibration needs to be performed with
the calibration cap.
• Check that the sensor/scanner head is clean. If necessary, clean it with the brush
and/or cloth provided.
• When the sensor/scanner head is clean, place it in the calibration cap facing the
white side. Make sure the pins of the scanner connect perfectly with the holes
of the calibration cap. The sensor/scanner head needs to be in contact with the
white surface.
• Start the scanning process by pressing the ‘Scan’ button on the device for one
second, till you hear a beep.
• The white calibration process will take about 40 seconds.
If the background scanning has not been successful, an error message will appear
in the app. Follow the instructions to resolve the issue. If the issue persists, please
contact support (see chapter 7).
Yellow standard scan with the calibration cap:
• At the beginning of each working day, or when you connect your app to another
device, a yellow standard sample needs to be calibrated using the yellow-
background calibration cap.
• Turn the calibration cap with the yellow side facing upwards, and position the
sensor pins inside the holes of the calibration cap. The sensor/scanner head
needs to be in contact with the yellow surface of the calibration cap.
• Start the scanning process by pressing the ‘Scan’ button on the device for one
second, till you hear a beep.
• The yellow calibration process will take 30 seconds.
If the scanning of the standard sample has not been successful, an error message
will appear in the app. Follow the instructions to resolve the issue. If the issue
persists, please contact support (see chapter 7).
When the calibration process has finished, you will be redirected automatically to
the sample scanning process.

Seven steps to scan a sample
A sample must be prepared before you can start scanning. Prepare a big enough
sample to represent your testing area. In total, five scans are required to provide
an accurate measurement of your sample.
Step 1. Mix your sample well before filling the sample tray up to the edge, or if
scanning a silage sample fill a large tray (approx. 40*60).
Step 2. Place the scanner on top of your sample. Make sure the scanning surface of
the sensor/scanner head is in contact with your sample.
Step 3. Press the ‘Scan’ button for one second to start the scanning process. Do not
move the scanner while it is scanning or while the scan (green) light is blinking.
Step 4. Your mobile device will notify you when you can continue to the next scan.
Step 5. When the scan is finished, place the contained sample back into your
bucket. Mix it thoroughly, fill a new sample tray and repeat the process.
In case of silage you can position the scanner on a different place in the tray.
Step 6. Before each scan you have to clean the sensor/scanner head. Continue to
repeat step 1 to 5 until all required 5 valid scans are finalised.
Follow the process in the app to generate a report.
Step 7. Clean the scanner properly before placing it back in the case.
Cleaning the scanner after use
The scanner is a Near Infra Red (NIR) measuring device. You must take good care of
your sensor/scanner head to ensure its proper operation. Keep the bottom and
glass parts of the scanner clean by using the brush and the dry cleaning cloth after
each scan.
A. Use the cleaning brush to
remove the soil from the metal EC
probes and the glass until all
visible particles are removed.
B. Use the cloth to remove the
small particles until no dirt or left
over particles can be observed.
C. Result: clean sensor head.
