1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
This document is a user guide for the RD-88MW322-QFN-1B-2A-v1.0 evaluation
kit. This evaluation kit is based on the NXP 88MW322, an IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
microcontroller.
The RD-88MW320-QFN-1B-2A-v1.0 evaluation kit, which is based on the NXP
88MW320, is similar.
Table 1 summarizes the key differences between 88MW322 and 88MW320 (hereafter
referred to as “Wireless SoC”).

2 Evaluation kit overview
The evaluation kit includes a reference design module mounted on an adapter board.
The reference design module is based on NXP 88MW322 wireless microcontroller.
Figure 1 shows a picture of the evaluation kit. The reference design module is highlighted
in yellow.

2.1 Kit package list
•RD-88MW322-QFN-1B-2A-v1.0 reference design module
•AB-88MW3XX_V3.0 adapter board.
•USB type A to USB mini-A cable
Note: The reference design module is mounted on the Adapter board.
The adapter board may be powered through USB, J3. However it is recommended to use
an external 5V/1A AC adapter. The AC adapter is not included.

2.2 Reference design module features
The reference design module is a stamp type module with the features shown in Table 2.

2.3 Adapter board
The adapter board is a 62 x 95 mm PCB with the key features shown in Table 3.

2.4 Power supply options
The reference design module can be powered by one of the three different sources
through the adapter board.
Table 4 shows how to select the power supply source by configuring the jumper on the
adapter board.

2.5 Antennas
The reference design module has an on-board PCB antenna and a W.FL RF
connector(P/N IPEX 20369-001E) for external antenna. If both antennas are used,
antenna diversity is supported.
Figure 6 shows the locations of PCB antenna and W.FL RF connector.

design modules.

Figure 7 shows the physical location of the GPIO pins on the adapter board.
Note: Each GPIO pin is labelled near the header connector as shown in Figure 7. The
reference designator, IO_26, is referred to GPIO[26], for example.

2.7 Configuration pins
By default the configuration pins Strap1 and Strap0 are disconnected, and the DUT is
configured to boot from Flash.
Configuration pins are muxed and used for the followings:
•During boot-up, their states are read for the device operating mode
•After boot-up, the pins can be repurposed for other GPIO functions. Strap1 is
GPIO[16], and Strap0 is GPIO[27]. Please refer to 88MW320-88MW322 datasheet.
Figure 8 shows the location of the configuration pins.

Note: To use the configuration pin after boot-up there is a requirement if the
configuration pin is used as GPIO input pin. There is no requirement if the configuration
pin is used as output pin. The requirement is that the configuration pin cannot be driven
other than the intended operating mode. For example, if the configuration pin is set
to logic high at power up, this GPIO input must be driven logic high before reset is
deasserted; otherwise, the SoC will be configured to another operating mode.
