EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance to EC Directives
The CX Series speakers covered by this manual can be used for portable P.A. applications or for fixed
installation in an indoor environment where they will not be exposed to rain, direct moisture, extended
periods of sunlight or extreme temperature changes. Moisture can cause deterioration of electrical
contacts and metal parts in addition to damaging the speaker cone and surround. Avoid getting them
wet. Also, avoid direct sunlight. The sun and heat can dry out the driver suspension prematurely
negatively impacting performance.
PRECAUTIONS
Suspension of Loudspeaker System: Before attempting to suspend your LIGWA loudspeakers, read
and understand the following safety information.
IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING!
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION HAS BEEN GATHERED FROM DOCUMENTED ENGINEERING DATA AND IS
INTENDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. NONE OF THE INFORMATION IN THIS SECTION
SHOULD BE USED WITHOUT FIRST OBTAINING EXPERT ADVICE REGARDING THE ACTUAL
CIRCUMSTANCES PERTAINING TO YOUR DESIRE TO SUSPEND THESE SPEAKERS. NONE OF THE
INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE IS INTENDED AS AN EXEMPLIFICATION OR A WARRANTY ON
THE PART OF SONEGY. ANYONE MAKING USE OF THIS INFORMATION ASSUMES ALL LIABILITY
THAT RESULTS FROM SUCH USE. ALL INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE IS BASED UPON
STANDARD PRACTICES AND PRODUCTS COMMON TO NORTH AMERICA. THE INFORMATION MAY
NOT APPLY TO OTHER COUNTRIES LOCAL REGULATIONS, SYSTEMS OF MEASUREMENT,
SPECIFICATIONS OR DIFFERENT MATERIALS. USERS IN AREAS OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA SHOULD
CONSULT WITH ENGINEERS AND LOCAL REGULATORY AUTHORITIES FOR SPECIFIC GUIDELINES. USING
SUSPENSION HARDWARE CORRECTLY IS REQUIRED FOR SAFELY SECURING SYSTEMS THAT ARE HANGING.
MAKE SURE THAT ALL COMPONENTS ARE USED WITHIN THEIR WORKING LOAD LIMITS BEFORE
THE SPEAKER IS SUSPENDED. USE ONLY LOAD-RATED HARDWARE WHEN SUSPENDING SONEGY
LOUDSPEAKER MODELS.
NEVER EXCEED THE MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED LOAD RATINGS.
BEFORE SUSPENDING ANY SPEAKER SYSTEM, ALWAYS INSPECT ALL COMPONENTS (ENCLOSURE,
EYEBOLTS, ETC.) FOR DAMAGE
IF YOU NOTICE DAMAGE OR ANY ANOMALY, DO NOT SUSPEND THE SPEAKER UNTIL THE
PROPER CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN.

SUSPENSION SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General use:
Speakers can be heavy. Use a hand cart or some other device to move the speakers from one location to
another.
When pole or suspension mounting, always have at least one other person to assist.
Do not stand directly in front of the speakers while in operation as this may result in hearing damage or
hearing loss.
Suspending speakers: Things you need to know
You are liable for damages to property and injuries to individuals if a loudspeaker enclosure fails.
Know the rules for safe rigging. Improper practices can lead to great bodily harm including death.
Educate yourself at a safe rigging seminar. In North America, professionals like Rigging SeminarsTM or ATS
have classes which will educate you to these important practices. A quick internet search for “safe rigging
seminars” will yield several options.
Meet and establish a relationship with a local licensed mechanical or structural engineer. Get in the habit
of asking them questions instead of guessing about their answers. Learn from what they tell you.
Make certain you have the proper insurance coverage.
Research and understand the codes, practices, and requirements in the venues where you intend to
operate your sound system.
General Hardware Information
Any hardware used in an overhead suspension application must be load rated for the intended use. Local
hardware stores do not usually stock these products. Generally, this type of hardware is available
from rigging supply houses, industrial supply catalogs and specialized rigging distributors. Hardware that
is intended for overhead suspension will comply with ASME B30.20. The correct hardware will be
identified with a working load limit (WLL) and a manufacturing code that allows it to be traced should
there be a manufacturing lot that does not meet guaranteed specifications. Remember, when consulting
with a licensed and bonded rigger be sure to ask about the hardware and demand that the hardware
meet all minimum load and regulatory requirements.
Attachment to Structures
A licensed and bonded Mechanical or Structural Engineer must approve the location and means of
attachment to the structure before you suspend anything, including speakers. They will know the
building and/or safety codes and will help you ensure a safe suspension of the loudspeaker.
Safety first! Anything suspended without safety in mind can result in serious injury or death.

Inspection & Maintenance
Annual inspections of approved suspensions in a fixed location should be done once a year. All elements need
to be checked for structural integrity and application specific deployment.
Stand mounting safety precautions
CX Series speakers can generate considerable energy and may move due to its acoustical energy output. Be
conscious of the surfaces on which you place the speaker and make sure to place stands away from the edge
of the stage or stairs.
Some CX Series models are equipped with a 35mm receptacle cup. This allows for pole mounting and
stand mounting. If you are going to use a stand or pole please think about the following advice:
Make sure that stand is rated to handle the weight of the speaker.
Place the stand on a flat surface paying special attention to balance.
Make sure that the stand’s legs are not in a traffic area and that the cables are routed in such a
way as to avoid tripping and knocking over the speaker. Gaffer’s tape, brightly colored
professional wire management devices or carpets will go a long way to ensuring the highest
degree of safety.
Make sure the stand is in good working order before you place the speaker on the stand.
Only place 1 speaker per pole or stand.
Be extremely cautious when wind is present. Place sandbags on the stand legs. Never place a
banner on the stand as it will become a sail and increase the chances of the speaker toppling
over.
Ask for help when deploying a speaker on a stand or pole.
Hearing damage, prolonged exposure to excessive SPL
CX SERIES loudspeakers can get loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage to humans within a
close proximity. Don’t prolong yourself to exposure to any sounds that exceed 90dB.
For technical specifications, block diagrams and other valuable information refer to the appropriate
cut sheet
Operation
1. Unpack the unit and inspect for any damage
2. Place the unit in its intended location i.e. on a stand, table or attached to the suspension cables*
(see above)
3. Using high quality speaker cable (unshielded) terminated in Neutrik NL4 connectors, connect the
speaker to the power amplifier by inserting the male end of the cable into the female jack on the
cabinet. Gently twist the connector until you feel it snap into place.
4. Gradually raise the system volume until the desired loudness has been achieved.
5. Enjoy the beautiful sound

Product Description
The 218SUB is a very high output, high definition, passive subwoofer
designed for both portable and fixed installation applications requiring
very high output at the lowest frequencies while maintaining low
distortion. It is part of OEM’s full line of CX Series premium
loudspeakers which are designed to provide unmatched sonic quality
at very high sound pressure levels.
OEM Audio has designed the 218SUB with a two high quality 18” long
excursion cast frame woofers with 4” edge wound high temperature
resistant voice coils. This enables the 218SUB to produce sustained
high levels of low frequency output while efficiently dissipating heat to
improve long term reliability and reduce power compression.
Additionally, the 218SUB woofers have specially designed Kevlar
reinforced cone which provides consistent sonic performance when
driven at even the highest levels.
Two NL4 connectors are provided for input and loop output which are
mounted into the enclosure’s recessed rear plate.
The cabinet design of the 218SUB allow for quick and easy
transportation and setup. Four sets of 1/4-20 threaded inserts are
located on the rear of the cabinet in each of its four corners for
mounting casters or other transportation hardware.
Four heavy duty, powder-coated steel handles are integrated into the
sides of the enclosure at its center of gravity to lower the effort of
transporting and setting up the 218SUB.
The enclosure is made of void-free, multi-ply Baltic birch plywood with
optimized bracing to minimize resonances and improve damping. The
218SUB enclosure provides the strength and durability needed for a
high degree of reliability whether it is used in portable or fixed
installation applications.
The 218SUB addresses a wide range of subwoofer applications from
live sound to commercial installations due to its very high output, high
reliability and excellent sonic characteristics. It can be used with any
of the CX full range loudspeaker models to create a variety of
complete and sonically matched sound systems.
