are
built

In this manual the contents of the 10 digit
display are shown.
The
display
contents
of
the
8
digit
display
correspond
to
the
10
digit
display
except
for
the
waveband
and
the
preset
numbers
with
some
radio
functions.

Theft
protection
Coding
This
set
is
provided
with
a
passive
security
system
and
comes
coded
from
the
factory.
A
coded
set
is
worthless
to
a
thief.
Don’t
leave
the
Car
Pass
or
the
Radio
Pass
with
the
CODE
number
in
the
car.
When
coded,
the
set
briefly
shows
“CODE”
in
the
display
each
time
it
is
switched
on
(providing
that
ignition
is
switched
on).
The
CODE
protection
LED
@
flashes
as
soon
as
the
set
and
the
ignition
are
switched
off.
You
can
disable
the
code
by
decoding
the
set
(see
"Decoding",
page
18).
Removable panel ©
The
set
has
a
removable
panel
for
additional
theft
protection.
Always
take
the
panel
with
you
in
it’s
protective
case
when
leaving
the
car.
The
set
only
functions
with
the
original
panel.
In
case
of
loss
of
the
panel
the
whole
set

to
be
exchanged
by
an
authorized
Opel
dealer

payment.

Switching

The
set
is
switched
on
automatically
when
switching
on
the
ignition,
after
it
was
switched
off
by
the
ignition
key.
To
disable
the
connection
between
ignition
key
and
radio,
you
have
to
switch
off
the
automatic
switch-on
(see
page
19).
Automatic switch-off
If
the
set
is
on,
it
will
automatically
switch
off
one
hour
after
switching
off
the
ignition.
Volume
The
set
always
starts
up
with
a
factory
set
volume
level.
It
is
not
possible
to
change
this
initial
volume
level.

Radio
Selecting waveband
select the waveband by pushing UML key

shown in the display (“U”, “M” or “L”).

Station on medium wave
stereo broadcast
When a stereo broadcast Is received on FM,
the QO indicator appears in the display. In
case of poor field-strength the set
automatically switches to mono.
Tuning-in a station
You can tune-in stations in different ways:
— search tuning
— manual tuning
~ Auto-Store (AS)
and if RDS is switched on (FM only):
— looking up the FM Station Memory
(see page 15)
— RDS Programme Search (see page 12)
— TP search tuning - search tuning
accepts IP stations only (see page 12)
search tuning:
(only when RDS is switched off)
Press tuning key @® or @ for less than
1 second. The radio mutes.
<> search tuning downwards
> search tuning upwards
If no station was found by the first search of
the waveband, the set automatically switches
to a more sensitive search level.
Manual tuning:
(only when TP and RDS turned off)
To tune-in stations of which the frequency is
known.
Coarse tuning:
Hold tuning key « or ® pressed until
desired frequency is almost reached.
Fine tuning:
Briefly tap tuning key < or ® repeatedly until
the right frequency is in the display.

RDS
is
a
service
which
is
being
introduced
all
across
Europe
by
the
broadcasting
companies.
RDS
makes
it
easier
to
find
a
desired
FM
station,
and
ensures
interference-free
reception.
RDS
stations
transmit
—
in
addition
to
the
programme
—
digital
data
with
information
which
the
RDS
set
automatically
evaluates.
If
an
RDS
station
is
received,
the
station-
name
instead
of
the
frequency
appears
in
the
display.
Each
RDS
station
is
broadcast
on
several
frequencies.
During
your
journey
RDS
automatically
compares
the
signal
quality
of
the
receivable
frequencies.
The
set
always
Switches
to
the
strongest
(best-possible
reception
of
chosen
station).
The
station-
name
remains
unchanged
in
the
display.
Therefore
it
is
recommended
to
switch
on
RDS.
Switching on RDS
Select
FM
with
UML
key

then
switch
on
RDS
with
the
RDS
key
@.
“RDS”
appears
in
the
display.
If
you
switch
on
TP
(“Traffic
Programme"),
RDS
is
automatically
activated.

Traffic
Information
(TP = Traffic Programme)
TP station = RDS station which broadcasts
Traffic Announcements (TA). The display
Shows “TP”.
Switching on TP
To receive TP stations only. Search tuning
accepts IP stations only.
Select FM waveband with UML key @). Then
press TP key @. The display shows “[TP]’.
TP station, TP is switched on

not
possible,
or
during
the
search,
the
display
shows
“[
]”.

The radio automatically tunes to the
strongest IP station if:
— you switched on IP while listening to a
non-TP station,
— you selected a non-TP station with one
of the preset keys @,
— the volume is adjusted to the minimum
level and the selected TP station is
getting too weak,
— the radio was tuned to a non-ITP station
during cassette playback,
— the tuned TP station is getting too weak
during cassette playback.
During cassette mode, playback will be
interrupted by Traffic Announcements when
broadcast.
You can also switch on TP while listening to
casseite. In this case the station-name of the
last chosen programme is displayed for
about 5 seconds.
YOu can programme the volume of Traffic
Announcements independent of the
standard volume. See “TA volume level”,
page 22.

Press IP key. The display no longer shows
ji
To switch off TP during a Traffic Announce-
ment press TP key twice briefly.
“TP ON" or “TP OFF” is not stored (with the
frequency) when storing stations on the
oreset keys.
To hear Traffic Announcements
only
If you want to hear Traffic Announcements
only, switch on TP and mute the set by
adjusting the volume to minimum with
control @. You will hear Traffic Announce-
ments with the preset TA volume level (see
“TA volume level”, page 22).
interrupting a Traffic
Announcement
If you do not wish to continue listening
to a particular Traffic Announcement (for
example while listening to cassette playback)
press TP key once briefly during the Traffic
Announcement. TP remains switched on.
RDS-EON
(Enhanced Other Networks)
With RDS-EON it is possible to hear Traffic
Announcements even when you listen to a
non-TP station. Therefore the set receives
information about alternative TP stations via
the Radio Data System.
Non-TP stations linked by EON are treated
like TP stations by the radio and are
indicated with “TP” or “TP-EON’” in the
display (depends on display type).
To hear Traffic Announcements
via RDS-EON
Press TP key. The display shows “[TP]”.
When a Traffic Announcement is broadcast
from an EON-linked station the set
automatically switches to that TP station.
After the Traffic Announcement has finished
you will hear the selected non-TP station
again. During a Traffic Announcement the
Station-name of the TP station is shown in
the display.
RDS-EON is also active when listening to
cassette playback.

no

station
was
found
by
Auto-Store,
a
search
tuning
for
a
TP
station
will
run
as
long
as
at
least
one
TP
station
is
found.
You
can
also
store
stations
manually
on
the
AS
storage
locations
(see
“Storing”).

FM Station Memory
In addition to the locations on the preset
keys the radio provides an FM Station
Memory, In which all receiveable FM stations
are stored. You can look up this memory with
the tuning keys.
lo look up the EM Station Memory:
switch on RDS. By briefly tapping tuning
keys ® or @ one or more times you can
recall all stations stored in the FM Station
Memory. The display shows the station-
names or frequencies of the stations.
The FM Station Memory is set up everytime
the set searches for a TP station or you
perform an Auto-Store.
You can manually set up a new FM Station
Memory anytime you like.
Setting up a new FM Station Memory:
Press RDS key ® for at least 2 seconds
until you hear a confirmation beep. The
display briefly shows “MEMORY U”, then
“MEM” or “MEMO” (depends on display
type) and the running frequency.
RDS
Display during set up of FM Station Memory
The FM Station Memory process is finished
after approx. 30 seconds. The set switches
back to radio playback.
The stations stored in the locations of the
preset keys are not replaced by this process.

Cassette
Cassette playback
Insert cassette (open side to the right) in
cassette opening @. The set switches from
radio to cassette. The upper side of the
cassette is played. The display shows
“CAS 1>”,
If you insert a cassette in the cassette
opening when the set is switched off, the set
is
automatically
switched
on,
providing
that
you did not eject a cassette when the set
was switched off. Cassette playback starts
with the upper side of the cassette.
Reverse
== Press keys @ and @ half-way in
simultaneously to change cassette
side.
The display shows “CAS 1>” for the upper
side and “CAS 2>” for the lower side of the
cassette.
The
set
automatically
changes
the
side
at
the end of a tape.

Detection
The
set
provides
an
automatic
Metal
/
Chrome
tape
detection.
The
display
shows
“Gr’
when
a
Metal
or
Chrome
cassette
is
inserted.

Dolby B Noise Reduction
DO Press OO key @ briefly to playback
casseites recorded with the Dolby B
Noise Reduction system. The display
shows “DOB” or “D0” (depends on
display type).
Press OU key again to switch off the Dolby B
Noise Reduction system.
Cassette Programme Search
(CPS)
Press CPS key @ io activate the Cassette
Programme Search. The display shows
“CPS”.
Press one of the keys @ or @ fully home:

Interrupting playback (pause)
A Briefly press stand-by key @. The
cassette remains in the cassette
opening. The set switches from
cassette to radio.
Briefly press stand-by key again to switch
back from radio to cassette.
Cassette eject
e—a Press keys « and » fully home
simultaneously. The set switches to
radio playback and the cassette is
ejected.
You can also eject the cassette, when the set
is switched off.
Radio display during cassette
playback
You can display the station-name (of RDS
stations) or the frequency of the station you
last listened to during cassette playback.
Press UML key @ for 1 second. The
display shows the frequency or the
stationname of the latest tuned station for
approx. 5 seconds, for example “U1 101.2”.
Within these 5 seconds it is possible to
select another station with one of the preset
keys or to start a search tuning with the
tuning keys.
If TP is switched on, or you switch on TP
during cassette playback, the radio
automatically tunes to the strongest TP
Station, when the latest tuned station gets
too weak.
Security CODE
The set is protected against theft by a
security CODE. A coded set is worthless to a
thief.
If the coded set is disconnected from the
power supply, for example when removing
the set (theft) or by disconnecting the car
battery, the set is electronically locked.
Only you can make the set function again
by entering the right CODE (see “Getting set
back into operation after power supply has
been interrupted”, page 18). The CODE
number |s stated on the Car Pass or the
Radio Pass.

a safe location (for example with your car
documents), but never in the car.
You can disable the theft protection by
decoding the set, for example if you wish to
sell the set. If you sell the set, you should
give the CODE number to the buyer.
To prevent your car radio from being
decoded via the “trial and error method” a
waiting time starts after each unsuccessful
attempt at entering the CODE.

During
the
waiting
time,
the
set
must
remain
switched
on.
The
display
shows
“SAFE”.
After
the
first
two
attempts,
the
waiting
time
lasts
approx.
10
seconds.
After
this
it
is
increased
to
10
minutes.
With
each
further
unsuccessful
attempt
the
waiting
time
is
doubled,
reaching
640
minutes
by
the
ninth
attempt.
After 10 unsuccessful attempts the set is
blocked. The set has to be exchanged by an
authorized Opel dealer upon payment.
It is recommended to have the set put back
into operation by an authorized Opel dealer
after the sixth unsuccessful attempt.
The number of remaining attempts is shown
in the display.
Decoding
(deactivating theft protection)
Decoding of the set is only possible, when
the ignition is turned on.
1. Switch on ignition.
2. Switch off the set.
3.

Hold key pressed for approx. 3 seconds,
until you hear a confirmation beep. The set
Is no longer muted.
7. If awrong CODE number has been
entered and confirmed:
The display shows “SAFE” and after the
waiting time “Q - - - -”. Nine attempts are
remaining.
Now enter the correct Code.
Getting set back into operation
after power supply has been
interrupted
1. Switch on ignition.
2. Switch on the set by pressing control @.
The display shows “SAFE”,

Display when set is electronically locked
Coding
(activating theft protection)
Proceed as described in “Decoding”.
After successful coding mute of the set is
released. Now the set is protected again by
the Security CODE.

Remote control
(only certain car versions)
To increase driving security and to improve
ease of operation some of the radio
functions can be controlled by the remote
control at the steering wheel.

To adjust the volume step by step, press or
pull the + or — key (@} or @) one or more
times.
If you press and hold the key for longer the
volume is adjusted continuously.
Source selection
To switch from radio to cassette playback or
vice versa press O key @.
Tuning control
The < and © (@ and ®) keys have the
same functions as the tuning keys of the
radio.
For tuning-in stations see “Radio” (page 11)
or “RDS” (page 12).
Scanning presets
With the —> key @ you can select the
presets 1 to 6 of the chosen waveband.
With every push of the —® key, you can
select the next preset.
Pressing and holding the key scans the
presets successively.
Extended functions
Automatic switch-on
You can switch the operating set off and on
again with control @ or with the ignition key.
You can disable the connection between
radio and ignition key (automatic switch-on).
Disabling automatic switch-on:
~ Switch on ignition,
switch off the radio
~ Press preset keys 1 and 3 @ and keep
pressed
~ Switch on the radio and keep preset
keys 1 and 3 pressed until you hear a
confirmation beep
Before the confirmation beep the current
State of the automatic switch-on is shown in
the display:
a) “IGNI ON” = automatic switch-on is on
Db) “IGNI OFF” = automatic switch-on is off
After approx. 3 seconds and confirmation
beep the current state is changed.
With “IGNI OFF” you can switch the radio on
and off only with control @.

lo enable automatic switch-on:
Proceed as described for disabling
automatic switch-on.
Display when automatic switch-on is activated
lf the set is disconnected from the car battery
and later reconnected, the automatic
Switch-on is enabled.
Automatic switch-off after one hour is
independent of the automatic switch-on.
It is always enabled.
Automatic volume control
(Only with some car versions)
The automatic volume control adjusts the
volume depending on the car speed.
The faster you drive, the more the volume of
the radio is increased to compensate for the
driving noise.
You can select the compensation curves
between 0 (off) and 5 (maximum increase).

Automatic volume control setting:
~ Press UML key @ for at least 3 seconds
until you hear a confirmation beep. The
display shows for example “SD-VOL +2”.
— Press tuning keys ® or & within 10
seconds to select the desired setting
between “SD-VOL 0” and “SD-VOL +5”.
— To store the selected setting, press UML
key again for at least 3 seconds until you
hear a confirmation beep.
lf you don’t store the setting within 10
seconds after the last press of a key, the
new setting is not stored.
At “SD-VOL 0” the automatic volume control
is switched off.

Car telephone
The radio is prepared for connection of a car
telephone. If you want to use the telephone
functions, your car telephone has to be
connected to the radio by an authorized
Opel dealer.
If the car telephone is connected to the set,
the display shows “PHONE” everytime you
switch on the telephone or a call is coming
in. Radio or cassette playback will mute.
Display Quring a telephone call
The telephone signal is reproduced through
the loudspeakers of the radio, when using
the hands-free operation.

Adjusting the telephone level for hands-free
operation:
You can adjust the volume of the telephone
signal in seven levels:
— Switch off the radio:
~ Press TP key @ and keep pressed:
— Switch on the radio and keep TP key
pressed until you hear a confirmation
beep. The display shows for example
“PH-VOL - 2”:
— Select volume level between - 3 and +3
with the tuning keys <4 or >;
— To store the new setting press TP key
again for at least 3 seconds until you
hear a confirmation beep.
PROG
Display during acjusiment of hands-free volume
If you don’t store the setting within 10
seconds after the last press of a key, the
new setting is not stored.
traffic Announcements during hands-free
operation
The hands-free operation has priority over
Traffic Announcements. Nevertheless you
can hear Traffic Announcements on demand.
The TP function has to be switched on
([TP]” in the display, see page 12).
RDS EON [TP]
Display during hands-free operation, when a
Traffic Announcement is broadcast via RDS-EON
When a Traffic Announcement is broadcast
the display shows the station name of the TP
Station instead of “PHONE”.
— With the TP key you can switch between
the telephone call and the current Traffic
Announcement.
Regional programmes
Some RDS stations broadcast different
regional programmes. If you want the radio
only to tune to alternative frequencies with
the desired regional programme:.
Recall one of the presets or store the desired
station on one of the presets.
Then press the preset key for at least
5 seconds until you hear a confirmation
beep. The display shows “REG ON” for
approx. 3 seconds.
RDS
Display when you activate the regiional function
on a preset
To switch off this function:
Press desired preset key again for at least
5 seconds until you hear a confirmation
beep. The display shows “REG OFF”.
“REG ON" or “REG OFF” are stored (in
addition to the frequency) when storing
stations on the preset keys.
When switching on the set or recalling one of
the presets, “REG ON” is briefly shown in the
display; REG OFF is not shown.

You can adjust the volume of a Traffic
Announcement (TA) in addition to the
Standard volume.

FM reception in the car imposes higher
demands on the set compared with
comparable home equipment, so even
RDs-stations may be disturbed.
Refer

the
car
instruction
manual
regarding
physical
causes
of
interference.
Care of cassettes and cassette
player
Never
expose
cassettes
to
extreme
heat
or
direct
sunlight.
Only
use
C-60
or
C-90
cassettes
of
good
quality.
Always
keep
cassettes
in
their
cases.

player

playback
quality
deteriorates.
Break in power supply
When replacing the car battery the station
memory
and
all
other
settings
remain
stored.
The set is locked electronically by the theft
protection system. Put the set back into
operation
by
entering
the
Code
number
(see
page 18). If you have lost the Code number,
please consult an authorized Opel dealer.
Getting the set back into operation is
possible only on payment and after showing
proof of ownership.
