The
display
unit
in
your
car
(see
the
car
manual)
is
also
used
for
displaying
the
radio
information.
Two
fundamental
types
of
display
are
built
in.
8 digit display

In this manual the contents of the 10 digit
display are shown.
The
display
contents
of
the
8
digit
display
correspond
to
the
10
digit
display
except
for
the
waveband
and
the
preset
numbers
with
some
radio
functions.

Theft
protection
Coding
This
set
is
provided
with
a
passive
security
system
and
comes
coded
from
the
factory.
A
coded
set
is
worthless
to
a
thief.
Don’t
leave
the
Car
Pass
or
the
Radio
Pass
with
the
CODE
number
in
the
car.
When
coded,
the
set
briefly
shows
“CODE”
in
the
display
each
time
it
is
switched
on
(providing
that
ignition
is
switched
on).
The
CODE
protection
LED
@
flashes
as
soon
as
the
set
and
the
ignition
are
switched
off.
You
can
disable
the
code
by
decoding
the
set
(see
"Decoding",
page
18).
Removable panel ©
The
set
has
a
removable
panel
for
additional
theft
protection.
Always
take
the
panel
with
you
in
it’s
protective
case
when
leaving
the
car.
The
set
only
functions
with
the
original
panel.
In
case
of
loss
of
the
panel
the
whole
set
has
to
be
exchanged
by
an
authorized
Opel
dealer
Upon
payment.
Removing the panel:
Press
the
unlocking
key
@
and
take
off
the
panel.
Inserting the panel:
Press
the
panel
into
place
at
both
sides
until
it
clicks
into
position.

Switching
on
/
off
Ol Switch the set on or off by pressing
control @.
The
set
is
switched
on
automatically
when
switching
on
the
ignition,
after
it
was
switched
off
by
the
ignition
key.
To
disable
the
connection
between
ignition
key
and
radio,
you
have
to
switch
off
the
automatic
switch-on
(see
page
19).
Automatic switch-off
If
the
set
is
on,
it
will
automatically
switch
off
one
hour
after
switching
off
the
ignition.
Volume
The
set
always
starts
up
with
a
factory
set
volume
level.
It
is
not
possible
to
change
this
initial
volume
level.

Radio
Selecting waveband
select the waveband by pushing UML key
€) one or more times. The waveband is
shown in the display (“U”, “M” or “L”).
U=FM
M = MW (medium wave)
L = LW (long wave)
Station on medium wave
stereo broadcast
When a stereo broadcast Is received on FM,
the QO indicator appears in the display. In
case of poor field-strength the set
automatically switches to mono.
Tuning-in a station
You can tune-in stations in different ways:
— search tuning
— manual tuning
~ Auto-Store (AS)
and if RDS is switched on (FM only):
— looking up the FM Station Memory
(see page 15)
— RDS Programme Search (see page 12)
— TP search tuning - search tuning
accepts IP stations only (see page 12)
search tuning:
(only when RDS is switched off)
Press tuning key @® or @ for less than
1 second. The radio mutes.
<> search tuning downwards
> search tuning upwards
If no station was found by the first search of
the waveband, the set automatically switches
to a more sensitive search level.
Manual tuning:
(only when TP and RDS turned off)
To tune-in stations of which the frequency is
known.
Coarse tuning:
Hold tuning key « or ® pressed until
desired frequency is almost reached.
Fine tuning:
Briefly tap tuning key < or ® repeatedly until
the right frequency is in the display.

Sys:

RDS
is
a
service
which
is
being
introduced
all
across
Europe
by
the
broadcasting
companies.
RDS
makes
it
easier
to
find
a
desired
FM
station,
and
ensures
interference-free
reception.
RDS
stations
transmit
—
in
addition
to
the
programme
—
digital
data
with
information
which
the
RDS
set
automatically
evaluates.
If
an
RDS
station
is
received,
the
station-
name
instead
of
the
frequency
appears
in
the
display.
Each
RDS
station
is
broadcast
on
several
frequencies.
During
your
journey
RDS
automatically
compares
the
signal
quality
of
the
receivable
frequencies.
The
set
always
Switches
to
the
strongest
(best-possible
reception
of
chosen
station).
The
station-
name
remains
unchanged
in
the
display.
Therefore
it
is
recommended
to
switch
on
RDS.
Switching on RDS
Select
FM
with
UML
key
@),
then
switch
on
RDS
with
the
RDS
key
@.
“RDS”
appears
in
the
display.
If
you
switch
on
TP
(“Traffic
Programme"),
RDS
is
automatically
activated.

stations

The
radio
selects
the
best-receivable
frequency
for
the
tuned
station.
A
short
interruption
of
radio
playback
may
occur.

Display the frequency of an RDS station:
To
display
the
actual
tuned
frequency
of
the
selected
RDS
station,
press
UML
key
for
approx.
1
second
until
the
display
shows
the
frequency.
After
approx.
5
seconds
the
display
returns
to
station-name.
Switching off RDS
Press
RDS
key.
“RDS”
disappears
from
the
display.
The
display
shows
the
frequency
instead
of
the
station-name.
The
set
no
longer
tunes
to
the
best-receivable
frequency.
Traffic
Information
(TP = Traffic Programme)
TP station = RDS station which broadcasts
Traffic Announcements (TA). The display
Shows “TP”.
Switching on TP
To receive TP stations only. Search tuning
accepts IP stations only.
Select FM waveband with UML key @). Then
press TP key @. The display shows “[TP]’.
TP station, TP is switched on

TP
station
is
not
possible,
or
during
the
search,
the
display
shows
“[
]”.

The radio automatically tunes to the
strongest IP station if:
— you switched on IP while listening to a
non-TP station,
— you selected a non-TP station with one
of the preset keys @,
— the volume is adjusted to the minimum
level and the selected TP station is
getting too weak,
— the radio was tuned to a non-ITP station
during cassette playback,
— the tuned TP station is getting too weak
during cassette playback.
During cassette mode, playback will be
interrupted by Traffic Announcements when
broadcast.
You can also switch on TP while listening to
casseite. In this case the station-name of the
last chosen programme is displayed for
about 5 seconds.
YOu can programme the volume of Traffic
Announcements independent of the
standard volume. See “TA volume level”,
page 22.
Switching off TP
Press IP key. The display no longer shows
ji
To switch off TP during a Traffic Announce-
ment press TP key twice briefly.
“TP ON" or “TP OFF” is not stored (with the
frequency) when storing stations on the
oreset keys.
To hear Traffic Announcements
only
If you want to hear Traffic Announcements
only, switch on TP and mute the set by
adjusting the volume to minimum with
control @. You will hear Traffic Announce-
ments with the preset TA volume level (see
“TA volume level”, page 22).
interrupting a Traffic
Announcement
If you do not wish to continue listening
to a particular Traffic Announcement (for
example while listening to cassette playback)
press TP key once briefly during the Traffic
Announcement. TP remains switched on.
RDS-EON
(Enhanced Other Networks)
With RDS-EON it is possible to hear Traffic
Announcements even when you listen to a
non-TP station. Therefore the set receives
information about alternative TP stations via
the Radio Data System.
Non-TP stations linked by EON are treated
like TP stations by the radio and are
indicated with “TP” or “TP-EON’” in the
display (depends on display type).
To hear Traffic Announcements
via RDS-EON
Press TP key. The display shows “[TP]”.
When a Traffic Announcement is broadcast
from an EON-linked station the set
automatically switches to that TP station.
After the Traffic Announcement has finished
you will hear the selected non-TP station
again. During a Traffic Announcement the
Station-name of the TP station is shown in
the display.
RDS-EON is also active when listening to
cassette playback.

Storing
stations
Storage
locations
for
30
stations
are
available:
6 x U (FM),
6 x M (MW),
6x L (LW),
6xUAS
(Automatically-stored FM stations)
6xMAS
(Automatically-stored
MW
stations)

the
currently
stored

the
stored
stations,
perform
Auto-Store
again
to store new strong stations.
If
you
switch
on
TP
before
or
during
the
Auto-Store
process,
the
set
recalls
a
preset
with
a
TP
station
after
Auto-Store
has
finished
(not
necessarily
preset
1).
If
no
TP
station
was
found
by
Auto-Store,
a
search
tuning
for
a
TP
station
will
run
as
long
as
at
least
one
TP
station
is
found.
You
can
also
store
stations
manually
on
the
AS
storage
locations
(see
“Storing”).
Recalling
stored
stations
Select
waveband
(U,
M,
or
L).
Press
the
desired
preset
key.
To
select
one
of
the
stations
stored
with
Auto-Store,
select
waveband
(U
or
M),
then
briefly
press
AS
key.
Now
press
desired
preset
key.

Auto-Store,

FM Station Memory
In addition to the locations on the preset
keys the radio provides an FM Station
Memory, In which all receiveable FM stations
are stored. You can look up this memory with
the tuning keys.
lo look up the EM Station Memory:
switch on RDS. By briefly tapping tuning
keys ® or @ one or more times you can
recall all stations stored in the FM Station
Memory. The display shows the station-
names or frequencies of the stations.
The FM Station Memory is set up everytime
the set searches for a TP station or you
perform an Auto-Store.
You can manually set up a new FM Station
Memory anytime you like.
Setting up a new FM Station Memory:
Press RDS key ® for at least 2 seconds
until you hear a confirmation beep. The
display briefly shows “MEMORY U”, then
“MEM” or “MEMO” (depends on display
type) and the running frequency.

Display during set up of FM Station Memory
The FM Station Memory process is finished
after approx. 30 seconds. The set switches
back to radio playback.
The stations stored in the locations of the
preset keys are not replaced by this process.
