Serial Number
A serial number appears on all Opticon products. This official registration number is directly related to the device
purchased. Do not remove the serial number from your Opticon device. Removing the serial number voids the warranty.
Warranty
Unless otherwise agreed in a written contract, all Opticon products are warranted against defects in materials and
workmanship for two years after purchase. Opticon will repair or, at its option, replace products that are defective in
materials or workmanship with proper use during the warranty period. Opticon is not liable for damages caused by
modifications made by a customer. In such cases, standard repair charges will apply. If a product is returned under
warranty and no defect is found, standard repair charges will apply. Opticon assumes no liability for any direct, indirect,
consequential or incidental damages arising out of use or inability to use both the hardware and software, even if Opticon
has been informed about the possibility of such damages.
Packaging
The packing materials are recyclable. We recommend that you save all packing material to use should you need to
transport your scanner or send it for service. Damage caused by improper packaging during shipment is not covered by
the warranty.

1. Abstract
This manual provides specifications for the OPR 3101 gun-type wireless laser barcode
scanner.
2. Overview
The OPR 3101 scanner uses Bluetooth technology for wireless transmission of scanned
barcode data. Main features of the OPR 3101 are:
•Laser beam scanning: The use of a short-wavelength red laser beam enhances the
visibility of scanning lines.
•Customized ASIC for decoding: Utilization of high-speed ASIC increases data
processing speed and improves reading performance of low-quality printed barcodes.
•Rugged housing for heavy-duty applications: The OPR 3101 is enclosed in a
rugged housing sealed to IP-54 standards that withstands repeated drops of up to
two meters onto concrete. This scanner is suitable for use not only in offices or shops
but also in warehouses.
•Bluetooth technology for wireless communication: The OPR 3101 supports
Bluetooth with Class 2 output power. It enables data communication at distances up
to 10 meters.
•Rechargeable in the designated cradles: It takes only about 5 hours to fully
recharge the OPR 3101 in the designated cradle CHG-3101 or CRD-3101. The CHG-
3101 recharges the scanner while the CRD-3101 offers both recharging and
communication features. (It takes about 10 hours to recharge the battery using USB
bus power.)
•The OPR 3101 complies with RoHS

5. Electrical Specifications
5.1. Configuration
The OPR 3101 consists of three subsections: a laser scan engine, which converts
scanned data into analog signals and outputs the data; a decoding and communication
section, which decodes the data and controls the system; and a power supply and
interface section.

The main battery is a lithium-ion secondary battery.

5.6. Operating Indicators
5.6.1. LED Indicators
The OPR 3101 signals its operating status with LEDs.

charging is completed.

6.2. Laser Scan Standards
6.2.1. Laser Scan Tilt
Laser scanning tilt is the vertical difference between both ends of a laser scan
line. Measure it in the middle of the laser scan line.
•Less than 1.2° angle in vertical direction from the scan origin (mirror motor).
•Up to 3.1 mm when measured at a point 150 mm from the scan origin. (The
skew angle of this measurement was 0°.)
6.2.2. Curvature of Scan
The maximum difference between the laser scan line and the line between both
ends of the laser scan line. Measure it in the middle of the laser scan line.
•Up to 1.27° angle in vertical direction from the scan origin (mirror motor).
•Up to 3.3 mm curvature when measured at a point 150 mm away from the
scan origin.

The depth of field is measured from the edge of the scanner. The scanning range
is within the circular arc centered on the scan origin.

8.1. Wireless Interface
Bluetooth® is a registered trademark owned by its proprietor and used by
OPTOELECTRONICS Co., Ltd. under license.
The OPR 3101 supports Bluetooth wireless communication with other Bluetooth devices
that have the same profile. The OPR 3101 complies with Bluetooth version. 2.0; however,
its communication performance with equipment other than cradles or devices stated in
this manual is not guaranteed.
