OwnFone Footprint User manual

OwnFone’s Footprint is a wearable personal GPS locaon device. Its primary funcon
is to provide security and peace of mind, by providing locaon informaon and by the
use of the single buon to raise an alarm. The device acts as a two way communicaon
device between you and our alarm receiving centre.
Footprint can be worn on your provided lanyard or it can be aached to a keyring.
It can be charged using the charging cradle
or via the Micro USB port on the side of the
device using the supplied wall charger, or by
connecng your device to your mobile phone
car charger. Your device will automacally
turn itself on when charging.
Before using for rst me, please fully charge
the baery for around 2-3 hours.
When it is charging the blue light will be on,
and also the red light on the charging cradle.
USER GUIDE
MAKING AN SOS CALL
CHANGING EMERGENCY CONTACTS
BATTERY LIFE
The device must be switched on before it can make a call.
Press and hold the SOS buon unl the device Beeps and
vibrates (about 3 seconds).
This will call the alarm receiving centre. If the device fails
to connect, it will try again aer 5 minutes.
It is not necessary to hold the Footprint up to your ear as it has a hands-free loudspeaker.
For simplicity there is no volume control. To end the call, press the SOS buon.
You can make changes to the emergency contacts and other sengs by sending simple
commands to the mobile number of the device via sms.
To change any contact number, send these commands to it from a mobile phone:
Do not include spaces in any sms command. Is not case sensive. The device will respond
to each sms command with a reply sms to conrm the change.
It is not possible to be precise about how long the baery will last each day, as it is
dependent on your locaon, and the strength of the mobile signal. The baery life is
approximately 24 hours so it should be charged each day. We advise placing the device in
the charging cradle at the end of your working day and removing it just before you leave
for work.

RECEIVING A CALL
The device must be switched on before it can receive a call. It will ring, and then answer
automacally.
CONTROLS AND LED INDICATORS HOW TO TURN IT ON
GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR FOOTPRINT
WHEN YOU FIRST RECEIVE YOUR FOOTPRINT
Most of the me there is no need to worry about what the lights are doing, but if there
are no lights – the device is either turned o or has run out of power. If both lights are
making a short ash about every three seconds then everything is OK.
Press and hold the ON/OFF buon to turn it
on, unl the Footprint vibrates and the lights
start to ash.
The Footprint also turns itself on automacally
when it is put into the docking staon (which
must be connected to the mains) or if charged
by the USB socket.
Footprint uses GPS technology to calculate its locaon. GPS satellites orbit the earth and
transmit data to allow the device to calculate its posion. It will report its locaon to the
Carecall Control Centre every 3 minutes using a mobile phone data link.
Footprint must be switched on before it can calculate its locaon and it works best when it
is always powered up, so it is recording all its movements.
To ensure the best possible recepon, the device is ed with a roaming sim. This will auto-
macally select the best available network from all the major UK network operators.
If you enter an area with no mobile recepon it will store GPS data for transmission as soon
as mobile recepon is regained.
The best way to achieve this is to leave it on its charging cradle when not using it and take it
with you wherever you go. The worst thing you can do is to turn it o and take it on a long
journey. It will take it longer to work out where you are once you turn it back on.
GPS signals work by line of sight and do not always penetrate buildings well, especially if
they are large and have no windows. You will probably need to take it outside for a few
minutes when you receive it. Once the blue light changes from long ash to a short ash,
you will know that is has a GPS x.
The blue light also doubles up for power status. If it is ashing quickly it means the baery
is low. If the device is charged every 24 hours then it is unlikely it will run out of power.

HOW TO TURN IT OFF
In order to work correctly, the device should be le on as oen as possible. Therefore, it
has been designed not to be too easy to turn o.
Press and hold the ON/OFF buon and then quickly press & hold the SOS buon at the
same me for a few seconds. The LEDs will stop ashing.
