Carbon 8 Gateway Installaon Guide




The OxTech Carbon 8 Gateway is a highly scalable and customizable, 8-channel LoRaWAN
compable gateway used to construct public or private networks for capturing and analyzing
crical data.

1 Assemble the Gateway
Aatch the antennas to the Carbon 8
Gateway by connecng the 6 in/ 15 cm
antenna to the port marked “LoRa”
and the 4 in / 10 cm antenna to the
port marked “Cell”. Finger ghten
only. Using tools could cause damage.
The Carbon 8 Gateway allows you to
connect to either Ethernet, WiFi, or
Cellular.
For Ethernet: Choose a locaon near
an outlet and router. Connect the
ethernet cable to the WAN port on the
back of the Carbon 8 Gateway and
then connect the cable to your router.
Do not power on the device unl
prompted by the app.
For Cellular: Open the door on the back
of the gateway and insert the SIM card.
Note: The guided in-app setup will
require your provider’s APN and other
related account details.
3 Download OxTech Carbon App
For Wi-Fi: Proceed to step 3.
(For Wi-Fi Connecon Only)
Follow the guided process in the app to
scan for availble 2.4 GHZ Wi-Fi networks
and select your preferred 2.4 GHZ Wi-Fi
network. Enter credenals as needed to
connect the gateway to the selected Wi-Fi
network.

Download and open the OxTech Carbon
App. Create an account or sign in if you
already have an account. Ensure Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth are enabled on your phone.
Dowload the app for iPhone
Download the app for Android
Power on the Carbon 8 Gateway by plugging in
the provided power adapter. A Steady green or
yellow light indicates successful power
connecon.
Click “Add Gateway” and follow the guided
instrucons within the app. Configure your
sengs for the app. When selecng a gateway,
check the serial number printed on the label
that corresponds to the number in the app.
Pair the Carbon 8 Gateway to the OxTech
Carbon App. Bluetooth is automacally
enabled on the Carbon 8 Gateway for 5 min
aer the first boot. Bluetooth can be enabled
by pressing the Power touch buon on the top
of the gateway, and holding for 10 seconds.

Place your gateway near a window or at a high point within the building. Ideally, keep
several feet between the gateway, electronic devices and metal.
If you are placing your gateway inside and planning to use the Class B opon, you will need
to pair your gateway with a Carbon GPS Relay.

Hold the gateway up to the wall and
mark the hole locaons. Drill holes 1/4 in
and insert the screw anchors into the
wall. Line the gateway up to the screw
anchors and use the provided screws and
sleeves to aach the gateway to the wall.

The Power LED indicates the power source. The Carbon 8 Gateway can be powered via 3
power sources. The following table shows the LED cues for each power source.
The Power LED indicator also funcons as a capacive touch buon. Upon a 10-sec long
press, this buon turns on Bluetooth within the gateway, so that the mobile applicaon
can connect to perform any user configuraons. A hard press on this buon is not
required as there is no tacle feeling.



Carbon 8 Gateway can connect to the internet via 3 different
mediums. The gateway will choose the connecvity medium
according to the order of preference set by the user in the
OxTech Carbon App.

Prior to installaon and setup, the gateway must be added to the LoRaWAN network with
the cerficates already flashed. Upon successfully connecng to the internet, the Carbon
8 Gateway tries to establish the connecon to a LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS).
LED 4 indicates LoRaWAN data activity including LoRaWAN
Uplink, Downlink, and Gateway OTA activity.

The Carbon 8 Gateway has a built-in buzzer that indicates the following events.

The factory reset buon is located on the boom side of the
gateway. It can be accessed by sliding off the plasc cover over the
SIM card. Upon pressing the factory reset buon for 3 seconds,
the gateway will reset itself and reboot to default sengs.
All user sengs including the Wi-Fi credenals and cellular
profiles will be erased. Upon reboong, all user sengs will need
to be reconfigured via the OxTech Carbon App.
