Unlike transistor amplifiers, amplifiers with a tube power stage always
require a speaker on the corresponding output. Ideally, the impedance
(ohm rating) of the speaker enclosure and the amplifier output should be
equal. Operating an amplifier without any load at all can result in de-
struction of the amplifier.
The Palmer PLB2X8 load box can be connected safely to a tube amplifier
instead of a speaker in situations where direct sound in the room is not
desired. For example, this is frequently the case in home studios where
minimizing noise is an issue.
The box contains two separate loads, each with an impedance of 8 ohms.
Thus the PLB2X8 is ideal for supplementing the Palmer PDI05 and PGA05,
which do not have a built-in load box.
In addition to 2-channel (stereo) operation, the PLB2X8 can also be used
in one-channel mode. Alternatively, impedances of 4 and 16 ohms are also
available. The load rating doubles.

INSTALLATION & OPERATING:
SETUp AND cONNEcTIONS
Position the PLB2X8 in a dry place so that the natural air circulation is
not restricted. The amplifier power is converted into heat. It is impera-
tive to avoid accumulation of heat; otherwise, the PLB2X8 could become
damaged. Never cover up the ventilation slits on the base and cover.
Moreover, the box should not be placed in the direct proximity of devices
which also generate heat.
For wiring, please use only speaker cable with a corresponding cross-
section. As a rule, a cross-section of 0.75mm² is sufficient for short
cables of up to 2m in length. Longer cables should have a cross-section
of 1mm² or 1.5mm². This applies for amplifier outputs of up to approx.
150W.
The wiring really requires no further explanation; the amplifier is con-
nected to the PLB2X8 instead of the speaker cabinet. The input jacks
(INPUT 1 and INPUT2) are on the rear panel. In (dual) stereo mode, both
jacks are used. In mono mode, you must use only INPUT 1.

IN OpERATION
Please carry out all settings and cabling only when the amplifier is off.
The rear slide switch must be positioned in accordance with the desired
mode of operation (mono or dual/stereo). It has three clearly discernable
detent positions that are labelled as follows: DUAL 2x 8Ω, Mono 4Ω, Mono
16Ω.
In DUAL (stereo) mode, there is an 8Ω dummy load on each of the jacks
INPUT1 and INPUT2. It is possible to use only one INPUT if a dummy load
of 8Ω is required. However, it can then also only be loaded with 100W
RMS. The alternative impedances 4Ω and 16Ω can only be used in mono mode
via INPUT1. In this case, INPUT2 must not be used. Before turning on the
amplifer, please doublecheck the switch setting on the PLB2X8 and whether
an identical setting was selected on the amplifier and/or whether the
speaker jack with the corresponding impedance was selected.
On the front panel are two LED indicators, SIGNAL PRESENT for INPUT 1 and
2. The LEDs light up when there is an input power of 3-5 watts, indi-
cating that there is an input signal present. Logically, in mono mode,
only the INPUT 1 LED is illuminated. Each dummy load may be loaded with
100 watts continuous power. Because music typically constitutes a dynamic
signal, however, amplifiers with outputs of 120 to 150 watts can be con-
nected - especially with good cooling. In MONO mode, however, an ampli-
fier output of 250 watts should not be exceeded. With heavy loading, the
device can reach temperatures exceeding 70°C.

above, your sole and exclusive remedy shall be repair or replacement.
Adam Halls’ maximum liability under this limited warranty is expressly

This manufacturer's warranty covers all products distributed by Adam
Hall.
This warranty declaration does not affect the statutory warranty claims
against the manufacturer, but expands them with additional warranty
claims vis-a-vis Adam Hall.
Adam Hall warrants that the Adam Hall product you have purchased from
Adam Hall or from an Adam Hall authorized reseller is free from defects
in materials or workmanship under normal use for a period of 2 or 5 years
from the date of purchase.
The warranty period begins on the date on which the product was pur-
chased, proof of which must be produced (through presentation of the
invoice or the delivery note with the date of purchase) in the event of a
warranty claim. Should products of the brands named above be in need of
repair within the limited warranty period, you are entitled to warranty
services according to the terms and conditions stated in this document.
This Limited Warranty extends only to the original purchaser of this
Adam Hall branded product and is not transferable to anyone who obtains
ownership of the Adam Hall branded product from the original purchaser.
During the Limited Warranty Period, Adam Hall will repair or replace the
defective component parts or the product. All component parts or hardware
products removed under this Limited Warranty become the property of Adam

ure, Adam Hall, at its discretion, may elect to provide you with a re-
placement unit of Adam Hall´s choice that is at least equivalent to your
Adam Hall branded product in hardware performance.
Adam Hall does not warrant that the operation of this product will be
uninterrupted or error-free. Adam Hall is not responsible for damage that
occurs as a result of your failure to follow the instructions included
with the Adam Hall branded product. The manufacturer's warranty does not
cover - expendable parts (e. g., rechargeable batteries) - products from
which the serial number has been removed or with a serial number that has
been damaged as a result of an accident - damage due to improper use,

ANWENDUNGSBEREIch
Im Gegensatz zu Transistorverstärkern benötigen Verstärker mit Röhrenend-
stufe immer einen Lautsprecher am entsprechenden Ausgang. Impedanz (Ohm-
zahl) von Lautsprecherbox und Verstärkerausgang sind im optimalen Fall
gleich. Völlig ohne Last kann es zur Zerstörung des Verstärkers kommen.
Die Palmer Loadbox PLB2X8 kann gefahrlos anstelle eines Lautsprechers
an einen Röhrenverstärker angeschlossen werden, wenn kein unmittelbarer
Klang im Raum gewünscht wird. Dies ist zum Beispiel häufig in Heimstudios
der Fall, wenn es darum geht, den Lärmpegel möglichst niedrig zu halten.
Die Box enthält zwei getrennte Lasten mit einer Impedanz von je 8 Ohm.
Damit ist die PLB2X8 bestens geeignet , die Palmer Geräte PDI05 und PGA05
zu ergänzen, die selbst keine Loadbox beinhalten.
Neben dem 2-kanaligem (Stereo-) Betrieb kann die PLB2X8 auch einkanalig
eingesetzt werden. Alternativ stehen dabei die Impedanzen 4 und 16 Ohm
zur Verfügung. Die Belastbarkeit verdoppelt sich.

INSTALLATION & OPERATING:
AUfBAU UND ANSchLüSSE
Stellen Sie die PLB2X8 an einem trockenen Ort so auf, dass die natürli-
che Luftzirkulation nicht eingeschränkt wird. Die Verstärkerleistung wird
in Wärme umgesetzt. Ein Hitzestau muss unbedingt vermieden werden, sonst
könnte die PLB2X8 beschädigt werden. Keinesfalls dürfen die Lüftungss-
chlitze am Boden und Deckel abgedeckt werden. Auch sollte die Box nicht
in unmittelbarer Nähe von Geräten aufgestellt werden, die selbst Wärme
abgeben.
Zur Verkabelung benutzen Sie bitte nur Lautsprecherkabel mit einem
entsprechenden Querschnitt. Für kurze Kabel bis 2m reicht im Allgemeinen
ein Querschnitt von 0,75mm². Längere Kabel sollten 1mm² beziehungsweise
1,5mm² Querschnitt aufweisen. Dies gilt für Verstärkerleistungen bis etwa
150W.
Die Verkabelung bedarf eigentlich keiner weiteren Erläuterung, anstelle
mit der Lautsprecherbox wird der Verstärker mit der PLB2X8 verbunden. Die
Eingangsbuchsen (INPUT 1und INPUT2) befinden sich auf der Rückseite. Im
(Dual-) Stereobetrieb werden beide Buchsen benutzt. Im Monobetrieb darf
nur INPUT 1 belegt werden.

IM BETRIEB
Bitte nehmen Sie alle Einstellungen und Verkabelung nur bei ausge-
schaltetem Verstärker vor. Entsprechend der gewünschten Betriebsart Mono
oder Dual (Stereo) muss der rückseitige Schiebeschalter positioniert
werden. Er hat drei deutlich wahrnehmbare Raststellungen, die wie folgt
bezeichnet sind: DUAL 2x 8Ω, Mono 4Ω, Mono 16Ω.
In der Betriebsart DUAL (Stereo) liegt an jeder der Buchsen INPUT1 und
INPUT2 eine Lautsprecher-Ersatzlast (dummy load) von 8Ω an. Es ist
möglich, nur einen INPUT zu benutzen, wenn nur eine dummy load von 8Ω
benötigt wird. Diese darf dann allerdings auch nur mit 100W RMS belastet
werden. Die alternativen Impedanzen 4Ω und 16Ω können nur in der Betrieb-
sart Mono über INPUT1 erreicht werden. Buchse INPUT2 darf in diesem Fall
nicht belegt werden. Bevor Sie den Verstärker einschalten, überprüfen Sie
bitte nochmals die Schalterstellung an der PLB2X8 und ob am Verstärker
eine identische Einstellung, beziehungsweise die Lautsprecherbuchse mit
der entsprechenden Impedanz gewählt wurde.
Auf der Frontseite sind zwei Anzeige-LED’s, SIGNAL PRESENT für INPUT 1
und 2. Ab einer Eingangsleistung von etwa 3-5 Watt leuchten die LED’s
und zeigen damit an, dass ein Eingangssignal anliegt. Im Monobetrieb
leuchtet logischerweise nur die LED von INPUT 1. Jede dummy load darf
mit 100Watt kontinuierlich belastet werden. Da Musik typischerweise aber
ein dynamisches Signal darstellt, können - besonders bei guter Kühlung
- durchaus Verstärker mit Ausgangsleistungen von 120 bis 150 Watt pro
Kanal angeschlossen werden. In der Betriebsart MONO sollte allerdings die
Verstärkerleistung von 250 Watt nicht überschritten werden. Bei starker
Belastung kann eine Gerätetemperatur von über 70°C erreicht werden.

Falls an Hardware-Produkten von Adam Hall innerhalb der Garantiezeit
Material- oder Verarbeitungsfehler (gemäß der Garantieerklärung oben)
auftreten, besteht Ihr alleiniger und ausschließlicher Anspruch aus die-
ser Garantie in der Reparatur oder dem Austausch des Geräts. Die maximale
Haftung der Firma Adam Hall ist entsprechend dieser Garantie ausdrücklich
auf den Kaufpreis oder die Kosten für eine Reparatur oder Ersatz – und
zwar den jeweils niedrigeren Betrag – der bei üblichem Gebrauch fehler-
haften Hardware-Komponenten begrenzt.
Adam Hall ist nicht haftbar für jegliche durch das Produkt oder das
Versagen des Produkts verursachte Schäden, einschließlich Gewinnein-
bußen und unterbliebener Einsparungen sowie besonderer, indirekter oder
Folgeschäden. Des Weiteren ist Adam Hall nicht haftbar gegenüber Recht-
sansprüchen Dritter oder durch Sie im Namen Dritter angemeldeten Forder-
