Chapter 1 Overview — Before using the camera
Before using the camera
rUse appropriate lighting when shooting to capture images with clear color
fTo make the color of images clear, use appropriate lighting for shooting.
fColors may not be reproduced correctly under uorescent lighting. Select appropriate lighting as necessary.
fUse the ND lter in excessively bright locations.
rTurn off the power before connecting or disconnecting the cables
fTurn off the power of the devices before connecting or disconnecting the cables.
rHandling of the camera
fDo not drop or add strong impact or vibration to the camera. Doing so may lead to failure.
rDo not touch optical system parts
fThe optical system parts are the “life” of the camera. Do not touch the optical systems on occasions such as when the lens is removed. In the event
that dust has adhered, use a blower for cameras or lens cleaning paper (for use with glasses or cameras) to gently remove the dust.
rDo not shoot images toward sunlight or a laser beam
fShooting toward sunlight or a laser beam for a long period of time may result in damage of the MOS.
rWhen using the camera in rain or snow, or on a beach or shore
fPrevent water from splashing on or entering the camera.
rHumidity and dust
fThe internal parts of the camera are more easily damaged in humid and dusty locations. Avoid such locations.
rTemperature range for use
fUsing the camera under the following conditions may have negative effects on the image quality or internal parts of the camera. Avoid such locations.

Cold places where the temperature is −10 °C (14 °F) or below
Hot places where the temperature is 45 °C (113 °F) or above
Image Processing Unit AK-SHU800
Cold places where the temperature is 0 °C (32 °F) or below
Hot places where the temperature is 40 °C (104 °F) or above
fPreheating is required in a low-temperature environment. Conrm display is not lit before using the camera.
rCleaning
fTurn off the power and clean the camera with a dry cloth. If the dust cannot be removed with a dry cloth, try soaking the cloth with kitchen detergent to
gently wipe off the dust.
fUse lens cleaning paper (for use with glasses or cameras) when cleaning the lens.
rCooling fan
fThe camera has an internal cooling fan.
fThe cooling fan is a consumable supply. Replace it after approximately 40,000 hours of use. Be sure to contact your dealer for the replacement.
rPeripheral devices and software
fThe software of the peripheral device that is connected to the camera may require updating.
fFor details, contact your dealer.

rCarrying
fWhen carrying the camera, carry it with two hands using the handle ttings.
rDust-proof lterl (camera only)
fThe cooling performance drops when the lter is dirty. As a guide, it should be replaced about every 6 months. If you notice clogging or deterioration
during inspections, replace the lter.

Notes regarding network
This camera is provided with functions which are used upon connecting to a network.
When the camera is used while connected to a network, there are the following potential risks.
fLeakage or disclosure of information via the camera
fManipulation of the camera by a malicious third party
fInterference or interruption of the camera caused by a malicious third party
To prevent such risks, users are responsible for implementing sufcient network security measures inclusive of the following.
fUse the camera over a network where safety is ensured with the installation of a rewall, etc.
fWhen the camera is used in a system to which a computer is connected, be sure to perform regular checks or detections for computer viruses and
malware.
In addition, be sure to observe the following precaution.
fDo not install the camera or cables in a place where they may easily be damaged.
Memory cards (IPU only)
Memory cards used with the unit should conform to SD, SDHC or SDXC standards.
Be sure to use the unit to format memory cards.
Memory cards with the following capacity can be used with the unit.
SD: 2 GB
SDHC: 4 GB to 32 GB
SDXC: 64 GB

Using the camera in a system
An example of a standard system congured with the 8K Multi Purpose Camera (AK-SHB800), Image Processing Unit (AK-SHU800) and peripheral
devices is as follows.

The following are the basic conguration devices of this camera, such as lens.

This is where the lens is mounted.
2 Front tally lamp
Lights up when the tally signal is supplied.
Blinks in red while displaying warning, and blinks in green during the rmware update.
@@NOTE
tBrightness can be set in the menus of the IPU.
During rmware updating, irrespective of the brightness setting, the lamp blinks in green at the [LOW] setting. This can also be turned off in the
menus of the IPU.
3 Rotating axis for maintenance
Do not touch under normal circumstances.

1 <OPT IN> terminal
Connect to the <OPT OUT> terminal on the IPU using an optical ber cable.
@@NOTE
tThere is a protective cap on the terminal. Remove it before use.
2 <OPT OUT> terminal
Connect to the <OPT IN> terminal on the IPU using an optical ber cable.

tThere is a protective cap on the terminal. Remove it before use.
3 <DC IN> terminal
This is an input terminal for the external DC power supply. Connects to the external DC power supply. (DC 11 V to 17 V)
4 <OPT> lamp
This indicates the status of the optical signal reception level on the camera.
When the level is strong: Lights green
When the level is weak: Lights yellow
When there is no reception: Off
@@NOTE
tIf the reception level is weak, turn off this unit and the IPU, then clean the optical ber connectors.
If this does not improve reception, turn off the units immediately and contact your dealer.
5 Back tally lamp
Lights up when the tally signal is supplied.
Blinks in red while displaying warning, and blinks in green during the rmware update.
@@NOTE
tBrightness can be set in the menus of the IPU.
During rmware updating, irrespective of the brightness setting, the lamp blinks in green at the [LOW] setting. This can also be turned off in the
menus of the IPU.
6 <HD SDI PROMPT OUT> terminal
This outputs images input to the <HD SDI PROMPT IN> terminal on the IPU.
7 <TRUNK> terminal
This is the terminal for transmitting and receiving IPU trunk data.
8 Cooling fan
This is the fan for cooling the unit.
@@NOTE
tDo not block or disturb the ventilation while operation. Doing so may cause re due to overheating.
tExpected life of this fan is approximately 40,000 hours. (When used at room temperature of 25 ºC) Replace when it reaches the expected life.
tBe sure to contact your dealer for the replacement.
9 Dust-proof lterl
This prevents dust from getting into the unit.
@@NOTE
tReplace the lter after turning off the main unit.
tThe cooling performance drops when the lter is dirty. As a guide, it should be replaced about every 6 months. If you notice clogging or
deterioration during inspections, replace the lter.
tUse the specied lter when replacing it. For details, contact your dealer.
tDo not wash the lter in water.
10 <DC IN> lamp
This will illuminate in green when power is supplied to the camera.

This is the unit’s power switch. Set to the ON (l) position when turning the unit on.
2 <TALLY> lamps
The lamp remains lit while tally signals (R, G) are input.

Indicates the camera number that has been assigned to the unit.
4 <STATUS> indicators
Lights to indicate the unit status.
t<G/L ON> indicator
Lights when the external sync signal is synchronized.

Lights when the rotation speed of the unit's cooling fan drops below the normal value.
t<ALARM> indicator
Lights when the unit malfunctions.
5 Memory card access lamp
This is lit while the memory card is being accessed.
6 Memory card slot
Insert a memory card (sold separately).
A memory card can be used to set this unit.
7 <ROP FRONT/REAR> selector switch
This switch switches between the <ROP> terminals on the front and rear panels.
You can enable or disable this switch in the menus of the IPU.
8 <ROP> terminal (FRONT)
This connector is for connecting a ROP (sold separately).
9 <OPTICAL LEVEL> indicators
Indicates the reception strength of optical transmission.
t<CAM> indicator
Indicates the reception strength on the camera side.
t<IPU> indicator
Indicates the reception strength on the IPU side.
10 <MENU> button
When you press the <MENU> button, the menu for the <HD SDI OUT 2> terminal is displayed on the screen and the <MENU> button lights.
If you hold down the <MENU> button while the menu is displayed, the menu closes and the <MENU> button turns off.
11 <SELECT> dial
This <SELECT> dial is for menu screen operations.
When the <SELECT> dial is turned to the right the cursor moves down, and when turned to the left it moves up.
Press the <SELECT> dial when selecting menu items.
12 <USER1> and <USER2> buttons
These buttons are used for assigning functions.
Assign functions with settings in the IPU menus.
The following functions are assigned by factory default.

1 <HD SDI OUT 1> terminal
This is the main line output terminal dedicated for HD SDI.
<HD SDI OUT 2> terminal
This is the monitor output terminal dedicated for HD SDI.

2 <SDI OUT> terminal
This is the main line output terminal dedicated for 8K, 4K and HD CROP SDI

tUse a BNC cable for 12G for 12G SDI.
3 <OPT OUT> terminal
Connect to the <OPT IN> terminal on the camera using an optical fiber cable.

4 <OPT IN> terminal
Connect to the <OPT OUT> terminal on the camera using an optical fiber cable.

5 <HD SDI PROMIT IN> terminal
These connectors are for inputting HD SDI prompter signals.
Input images can be viewed through the <HD SDI PROMPT OUT> terminal on the camera.
<HD SDI PROMIT OUT> terminal
This is active through output from the <HD SDI PROMPT IN> terminal.
6 <REF IN> terminal
This is the reference signal input connector when applying external synchronization.
BB (black burst) signals or tri-level signals can be input, and are automatically recognized.
<REF OUT> terminal
This is the loop through output from the <REF IN> terminal.

tWhen a cable is not connected to the <REF OUT> terminal, it automatically becomes a 75 Ω terminal. The 75 Ω terminal is released when a cable is connected.
tWhen a cable is connected to the <REF OUT> terminal, do not leave the connector at other end of the cable open.
7 Cooling fan
This is the unit's cooling fan.
tDo not block fans or ventilation during operation. Heat can build up internally and this may cause a fire.
tExpected life of these fans is approximately 40,000 hours. (When used at a room temperature of 25°C) Replace when they reach the expected life.
tBe sure to contact your dealer for the replacements.
8 AC power socket
This socket is for inputting AC power.
Connect the supplied power cable, and use a 3-prong outlet and ground the unit properly.
9 <SIGNAL GND> terminal
Connect this to the system ground.
10 <RESERVE> terminal
Not used.
11 <ROP> terminal
This terminal is for connecting a ROP (sold separately).
12 <AUX> terminal
This connector is used for controlling tally output.
13 <TRUNK> terminal
It is possible to transmit and receive camera trunk data.
14 <COMMUNICATION> terminal
This connector is for connecting the tally signal with an external system.
15 <LAN> terminal
This connector is for connecting an ROP and PC for ROI control with an IP connection.
Use a switching hub and connect using a 1000BASE-T/100BASE-TX straight cable.
