Parasport NeoXs User manual

NeoXs user manual
The NeoXs is an audible altimeter designed to be inserted directly in the pouch of a helmet without
requiring any option. The small size allows a perfect fit in almost every helmet, full face or open
face. The intuitive User Interface combined with the Navigation Switch allows a very easy
operation. A wide LCD display allows to set up and use the unit within a few minutes with little use
of the manual. We’re sure you will enjoy all the features of the NeoXs, and we invite you to read
the information contained in this manual.
The Navigation Switch
The Navigation Switch controls the NeoXs functions. It can be moved in 4 directions (up, down, left
and right, very much like a familiar joystick) and depressed like a normal pushbutton. When the
unit is in power saving mode you just need to touch the key to wake the unit up. For safety, the key
is disabled (locked, as shown by the lock on the LCD), and can be easily unlocked by pressing and
releasing the button few times in sequence. This is designed to avoid accidental activation when
used into a helmet.
Switch action is consistent thru the different functions. Moving to the left enters programming mode,
moving to the right leaves current function. Moving up and down increases or decreases values in
programming mode, while pressing it saves the value changed and moves to the next one. Special
actions are explained throughout this manual.
After 30 seconds without touching the button the unit locks the Navigation Switch and returns to
stand-by mode to save battery.

Installing the battery
The NeoXs doesn’t need to be turned off as it is able to extend battery life by changing the battery
consumption. It is shipped with the single CR2450 3V Lithium battery already installed, and it will
need just a touch of the button to be ready.
Expected battery life is about 18 months, but it depends on the number of jumps, and time spent
not in stand-by mode. If you’re planning not to use the unit for some time (like during Wintertime,
for example) we suggest to remove the battery to save battery life.
Replace the battery when the low-battery indicator shows up (please note that extreme cold
weather may falsely activate this indicator!). If the low-battery signal displays at temperatures
above 50°F (10°C) the battery needs immediate repla cement. To install or replace the battery
follow these steps:
1. Open the battery compartment and take out the battery with the help of a little screwdriver
or giving few little hits with the hand trying to slip the battery out.
2. Discard the old battery and install the new battery with the + sign towards the bottom of the
unit.
3. Close the battery compartment cover by pushing it.
Note: battery removal is tricky by design. This will insure a good battery contact independently by
the battery cover.
Main display
As you wake up the instrument, the different altitude warnings will be displayed and you can
choose if the unit of measure you prefer is metric or feet (MT/FT) by moving the button to the left.
Countdown timer value is also displayed.
After take off, the unit will beep and switch to inflight mode, showing the current altitude in real time.
When swoop alarms are active, the indicator SWOOP will show (see “Program swoop alarms”). In
this mode you can also switch measurements units between meters and feet by moving the key to
the left.

Alarms
The NeoXs offers up to 7 distinct alarms that are easy to recognize and programs can be
categorized as follows:
Freefall alarms: prepare to breakoff altitude, prepare to deploy altitude, danger altitude, countdown
timer.
Low speed alarms: up to three altitudes can be set for alarms to go off under the open canopy.
The canopy altitudes warnings can be disabled at once on their own programming function. First
altitude warning will go off anyway, the other altitude warnings and the countdown time only if in
freefall. An altitude warning can be disabled setting it at the same value of another warning. The
countdown timer can be disabled by setting it to zero. Freefall warnings are set with 100 feet (25
meters) increments. Canopy warnings altitude are set with 10 feet (5 meters) increments.
Countdown timer can be disabled setting its value to 0, or set to any value between 5 and 150
seconds.
Main menu
The main menu is the way to select the available functions. After unlocking the key (see Navigation
Switch), move the key to the right to show the menu (you can make it disappear moving the key to
the right again). When the menu shows move the key up or down to browse the menu items (the
select item will flash), and press the key to select the function. Functions available are:
- PROFILE: to select and program the preset warnings
- SWOOP: to program the warning altitudes to go off under the open canopy
- ALARM: to modify the current alarms set
- CONFIG: to set units parameters

Profiles
The unit has four customizable user profiles for different uses (formation skydiving, freefly, tandem,
AFF and so on). Warnings stored in a profile can be easily selected and activated while climbing to
altitude too. Select PROFILE from the main menu, and then choose the profile you want to select
or change by moving the key up or down. You can select the profile shown by pressing the key
(returning to normal display mode), or changing the alarm values by moving the key to the left
(entering profile programming mode).
Program profile
This function programs the three alarms for freefall warning altitudes and the countdown timer for a
specific profile. Change the values by moving the key up or down, save the value and proceed to
the next by pushing down the key. Save the profile changes and return to profile mode by moving
the key to the right. If you don’t touch the key for 30 seconds the unit will leave the programming
mode without saving the changes.
Program swoop alarms
Up to three alarms for low speed warning altitudes can be set. From the main menu select the
SWOOP function with the Navigation Switch. The unit will go into swoop programming mode with
the first altitude warning flashing. Change the value moving the key up or down, and save it by
pressing the key. Press the key will also move to the next number. Last number is the volume level,
select one of the three available or set to off (OFF) to disable the swoop signals. Once the
preferred altitudes have been set, move the button to the right to save the changes and return to
the main display.

Program alarms
Current alarms set can be programmed directly without passing through the profiles. Select the
ALARM function from the main menu and program the current alarm using the navigation switch as
described in the profiles programming.
Ground set
The NeoXs is able to follow the pressure changes while on the ground, in order to correct the
ground reference. In some situations may be necessary to manually reset the unit to set the new
ground reference. If necessary, select the CONFIG function from the main menu, and when the
GND indicator shows move the key up to reset the ground reference.

Volume set
Each warning altitude is recognizable by a unique and loud audible signal. It is possible to increase
or decrease the volume level in the CONFIG function, skip the ground set function by pressing the
key once to show VOL. At this point moving the key up or down will increase or decrease the
volume. Pressing the button will save the volume set and return to the main display.
Sound test
You can make a sound test selecting the CONFIG function, skipping the ground reference and
volume functions by pressing the key twice showing SND. You can start the sound test moving the
key up. You can interrupted it by touching the pushbutton.
How to install the NeoXs adapter on helmets with IAS setup
1. Open the back of the holder inside the helmet. Pull horizontally first to unlock it, and then
rotate to open.
2. Insert the rubber adapter into the IAS holder with the rounded part towards the hinge of the
holder.
3. Insert the NeoXs verifying that the buzzer output on the unit corresponds to the hole on the
back of the IAS holder.
4. Close the holder assuring that the back is well locked.
Water resistance
The NeoXs provides sufficient water protection when swooping into ponds or in case of an
unintentional water jump. Avoid as much as possible contact with water. If the units gets wet,

immediately put it in a dry, controlled environment away from sunlight; remove the battery and let
all parts dry out before reassembling.
Unit care
Operate on the unit only as described in this manual. Do not try to perform any other service to the
NeoXs or attempt to open the case. Protect your unit from shocks, extreme heat and cold, and
prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. If not in use, your NeoXs should be stored in a clean, dry
environment at room temperature. The NeoXs can be cleaned with a clean cloth lightly moistened
with warm water, do not use soap or detergents. Do not attempt to take the NeoXs apart or service
it by yourself.
