1 Preface
1.1 Purpose
This document contains the installation procedure for the PCTEL MX WinUSB
Driver.

Please refer to Software License Agreement for the terms of the license agreement
covering the use of the PCTEL MX WinUSB Driver.

2 Installation
This section describes the required steps to install the PCTEL MX WinUSB Driver
which is a generic USB driver developed and provided by Microsoft. For more
information, please refer to the Microsoft website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-
us/library/ff540196(VS.85).aspx
2.1 Install PCTEL MX WinUSB Driver
The following steps describe how to install the PCTEL MX WinUSB Driver:
1. Log in as Administrator.
2. Insert the PCTEL MX WinUSB driver CD into the PC’s CD ROM drive.
3. Determine the System type is 32 bit or 64 bit by right mouse clicking on the My
Computer, and select Properties to bring up the System Panel. The System type shows
the operating system is either 32 or 64 bit.

4. Run DPInst.exe from the PCTEL MX WinUSB Driver folder.
Note: For 32 bit Operating System run DPInst.exe from “install x86” folder and for 64 bit
Operating System run DPInst.exe from “install x64” folder.
5. The PCTEL USB Device Installer window should appear as shown below:

6. Click on the Next button to continue with the installation procedure.
7. For Windows 7 & Vista the security window may appear as below:

8. Click Install to continue with the installation. During the installation process, the following
window may appear:

9. Once the installation procedure has completed successfully the following window will
display:

10. Click Finish to complete the Driver Installation.
11. Connect a PCTEL MX Scanner.
12. For Windows 7 and Vista users, proceed to step 18.
For Windows XP, the following Found New Hardware Wizard window will appear:

13. Select No, not this time and click Next. The following window will appear:

14. Select Install the software automatically (Recommended) and Click Next.

15. WinUSB driver software will install automatically and after the installation is complete, the
following will display:

16. Click Finish to complete the installation.
17. For Windows 7 and Vista, the operating system will automatically detect and install
driver software for the scanner. If you click on the device installation completed message
at the right bottom corner of the screen, the following screen will appear:

Note: If Windows require restart, the following window will appear. Close the window and
restart the PC.
