1. INTRODUCTION
Dear Customer,
Thank you for purchasing your Soil Cultivator Cultivion. Properly used and maintained, this equipment will give you
years of satisfaction.
Warning
Your machine contains numerous recoverable or recyclable materials. Return it to
your dealer or, failing this, to an approved servicing centre to be treated.
Comply with the regulations in force in your country as concerns environmental protection associated with your
activity.
Warning
It is imperative that you read through the ENTIRE user’s manual guide before using or servicing
the tool. Always comply with the instructions and illustrations provided in the user’s manual.
Throughout the user’s manual guide you will find advisory notes and information entitled: NOTE, IMPORTANT,
ATTENTION and WARNING.
Points marked “NOTE” indicate additional information.
Points marked "IMPORTANT" warn the user of a potential risk for the equipment.
Points marked “ATTENTION” warn the user of a potentially hazardous situations which if not avoided may result
in minor injuries.
Points marked “WARNING” warn the user of a potentially hazardous situation which if not avoided may result in
serious injury or death.
The warning indicates that damage resulting from failure to comply with the procedures and instructions is not
covered by the warranty and the owner will be liable for any repair costs.
Safety indications are also given on the tool; they remind you of the safety precautions to be taken. Identify and
read these indications before using the tool. Immediately replace any indications that may become partially illegible
or deteriorated.
Refer to Section 2.5, “Safety signage” for the location diagram of the safety stickers affixed to the tool.

2. SAFETY
2.1. INTENDED USAGE
• The Cultivion is a tool for working in soil only. It is used for weeding, aerating, cultivating and mixing fertiliser
with the soil.
• The Cultivion can also be used to dig furrows using the appropriate work tool attachment (ref. 83849).
• In addition the Cultivion can be used to clean walkways thanks to the sharp side faces of its blade.
• The PELLENC company accepts no responsibility for any damage caused by improper or unspecified use different
from its original intention.
• The company PELLENC is also not responsible for any damage caused by the use of parts or accessories not
listed in this guide.
2.2. GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS FOR THE TOOL
Warning
Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions
may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Note
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" in the safety warnings refers to your battery-powered electric tool (without power cord).
2.2.1. WORK AREA SAFETY
1. Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
2. Do not operate power tools in an explosive atmosphere, for example in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose
control of the tool.
2.2.2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
1. The power tool connector must be adapted to the socket. Never modify the connector in any way what-
soever. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and suitable
sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
2. Avoid contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers, and refrigerators. There is an
increased risk of electric shock if your body is in direct contact with the ground.
3. Do not expose power tools to rain or damp conditions. The entry of water into a power tool increases the
risk of electric shock.
4. Do not mishandle the power cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power
tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase
the risk of electric shock.
5. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord
suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
6. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) pro-
tected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

2.2.3. PERSONAL SAFETY
1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating the power tool. Do not
use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment
of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
2. Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust masks,
non-slip safety shoes, helmets, or ear protection used at the appropriate times reduces injuries.
3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power
source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the
switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
4. Remove any adjusting wrench before switching the electric tool on. A wrench left attached to a rotating
part can cause injury.
5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power
tool in unexpected situations.
6. Dress appropriately. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair and clothing away from moving
parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can get caught in moving parts.
7. If devices are provided for connecting dust extraction and collection equipment, ensure that these are
connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
2.2.4. POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will
do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
2. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled
with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
3. Unplug the tool from the socket or remove the battery (if possible) before any adjustment, change of
accessory or storage. These preventive safety measures reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power
tool.
4. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power
tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained
users.
5. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any
other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
6. Keep the cutting elements sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting elements
are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
7. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into
account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different
from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
2.2.5. BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE
1. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of
battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
2. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may
create a risk of injury and fire.
3. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys,
nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
4. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally
occurs, wash away with water. If liquid contacts eyes, seek additional medical help. Liquid ejected from
the battery may cause irritation or burns.
2.2.6. SERVICE
1. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This
will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

2.2.7. TOOL’S END OF LIFE MANAGEMENT
1. When the tool reaches the end of its life, PELLENC keeps the end of life sheet of the equipment at
disposal. The end of life sheet provides instructions for safely removing components.
2.3. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SOIL CULTIVATOR CULTIVION
1. Clear your work area before starting work.
2. Make sure that the Cultivion does not come into contact with anything other than soil and plants.
3. Do not use the Cultivion to dig very hard, stony soil or near thick roots.
4. Position yourself correctly to prevent accidents.
5. Keep people away from the machine when starting and operating the machine.
6. Never modify the connector in any way whatsoever.
7. The aluminium of the pole conducts electricity. Always keep the tool away from electrical lines, telephone lines,
and other sources of electricity. Manipulate the tool by holding the safety handles.
8. THIS TOOL MAY CAUSE SEVERE INJURIES. Read the operating instructions manual carefully to learn about
the proper handling, operation, maintenance, start-up and stopping of the tool. Familiarize yourself with all its
controls and the proper use of the tool.
9. Use personal safety equipment. Always wear safety footwear.
10. Make sure the tool head attachment is not in contact with any object before starting the motor.
11. When in use, the electric motor of the tool may heat up (risk of burns). Avoid contact with skin, clothing or any
flammable products (risk of explosion) during and after use.
12. No one other than the operator is authorized within a 3 metre radius.

• Always hold the rear handle of the Cultivion with your right hand, and the front handle with your left hand.
• Keep your left arm straight for better control.
• Use PELLENC working tools.
• Maintain working tools in good operating condition.
• Remain in a steady position.
• Keep feet away from the tool head when working.
• Only work in soil with your Soil Cultivator.

Warning
Vibrations and noise emissions during actual use of the machine may differ from the total de-
clared value, depending on how the machine is used.
It is necessary to identify safety measures to protect the operator. The tool, due to its operation,
emits significant vibrations. The user must therefore adapt the frequency and time of daily use
of the tool accordingly.

4. COMMISSIONING
Caution
Before any maintenance intervention on the tool:
1. Check that the battery is turned off. Depending on the battery model, turn off either via the
push button or via the on/off switch (stop position is "0") located on the battery.
2. Disconnect the power supply cord from the battery.
For more information, refer to the user manual supplied with the battery.
4.1. MOUNTING/DISMOUNTING THE FRONT HANDLE
Mounting
1. Fit the front handle (6) onto the pole (7).
Note
To obtain a comfortable position for the user, it
is necessary to adjust the position of the front
handle (6) on the pole (7).
2. Ensure that the adjustment knob (13) is unscrewed.
3. Fit adjustment thumbwheel wheel (13) on the pole
(7).
4. Screw in the 2 screws (14) using a Torx 25 screw-
driver.
5. Lock the adjustment thumbwheel (13) to block the
position of the front handle (6) on the tool.
Dismounting
1. Unscrew the adjustment thumbwheel (13) of the
front handle (6).
2. Remove the 2 screws (14) a Torx 25 screwdriver.
3. Remove the front handle of the tool (6).
4. Remove the adjustment thumbwheel (13).

4.2. FITTING THE TOOL HEAD
Caution
Always wear protective gloves when handling the tool.
4.2.1. MOUNTING THE BLADE ASSEMBLY
1. Insert the two nuts (15) in the spaces provided in the
mounting part (16).
2. Position the weeding blade (10) on the mounting
part (16).
3. Fit the tightening screws (17).
4. Tighten the screws (17) using a 5 mm hex socket
and a torque wrench.
Important
Tightening torque: 6 N.m
Important
Never work with the tightening screws (17) loosened.

The procedure is identical for all blade models. Only the weeding blade is shown here.

4.2.2. FITTING THE BLADE MOUNTING ASSEMBLY ONTO THE TOOL
1. Once fitted together, position the blade mounting as-
sembly (9) on the shaft (18), aligning the mark on
the mounting part (16) with the "0" mark on the head
casing(19).
Note
The head of the machine has a graduated rotating
shaft from -4 to +4, passing through a 0 position.
For further information on how to adjust the working
tool head position, see pages Section 5.7, “Adjust-
ing the tool head tilting positions”.
2. Place the nut (20) in the position provided on the
mounting part (16).
3. Fit the washer (21) and screw (22).
4. Tighten the screw (22) using a 5 mm hex socket and
a torque wrench.
Important
Tightening torque: 12 N.m
Important
Do not forget the nut (20) and the washer (21) during assembly.
Important
Never work with the tightening screws (17) loosened.

4.3. FITTING THE BATTERY ON THE HARNESS
To mount the battery on your harness, refer to the mounting instructions provided with your harness.
Important
After mounting, the battery must be solidly attached and secured on your harness. If this is not the case then
the mounting needs to be re-checked.
4.4. CONNECTING POWER CORD TO THE TOOL
1. Align the power cord key marker (12) with the notch
in the rear handle connector.
2. Connect the power cord (12) to the connector on the
rear handle.
3. Tighten the tightening ring (25) of the power cord
(12).
4. Ensure that the power cord (12) is properly connect-
ed.

4.5. CONNECTING PELLENC BATTERIES TO THE TOOL
Important
Always check the remaining battery-life before use. If necessary, recharge the battery using the charger.
To prolong the life of the connectors, it is advisable to protect them when they are disconnected. Avoid leaving
the connectors in contact with abrasive or dirty surfaces, or subjecting them to major impacts (falls).
4.5.1. 250 BATTERY
1. Remove the battery connector cap.
1. Remove the battery connector cap.
2. Connect the power cord (12) of the Soil Cultivator to
the connector on the battery.
3. Tighten the power cord tightening ring (12).
4. Ensure that the power cord (12) is properly connect-
ed.

1. Make sure that the battery is correctly fitted on the
harness, see Section 4.3, “Fitting the battery on the
harness”.
2. Ensure that the quick connector (23) is properly con-
nected to the battery.
3. Align the power cord key marker (12) with the notch
in the quick connect adapter (24) (reference 57262).
4. Connect the power cord (12) to the red connector on
the quick connect adapter.
5. Tighten the tightening ring (25) of the power cord
(12).
6. Align the arrows on the quick connector adapter (24)
and the quick connector (23).
7. Connect the quick connector adapter (24) to the
quick connector (23).
8. Ensure that the quick connector (23), quick connec-
tor adapter (24) and power cord (12) are correctly
connected.

4.5.3. ALPHA 520 BATTERY
1. Make sure that the battery is correctly fitted on the
harness, see Section 4.3, “Fitting the battery on the
harness”.
2. Ensure that the quick connector (23) is properly con-
nected to the harness.
3. Align the power cord key marker (12) with the notch
in the quick connect adapter (24) (reference 57262).
4. Connect the power cord (12) to the red connector on
the quick connect adapter.
5. Tighten the tightening ring (25) of the power cord
(12).
6. Align the arrows on the quick connector adapter (24)
and the quick connector (23).
7. Connect the quick connector adapter (24) to the
quick connector (23).
8. Ensure that the quick connector (23), quick connec-
tor adapter (24) and power cord (12) are correctly
connected.
