CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS
To prevent injury and damage to your product, please follow these instructions very carefully.
Do not transport the PORTROD while the headpiece is attached.
Be sure the PORTROD is placed on a flat, stable surface when it is being cleaned or being assembled.
For accurate measurement, the PORTROD must be placed on a stable wall surface.
For accurate measurement, verify proper operation according to the procedure described in this manual
before each use.
Do not use in the presence of flammable materials.
When not in use, raise headpiece to a high position, or have it removed and stored.
When wall mounting the PORTROD, ensure that the mounting location is free of electrical lines, gas pipes,
and other safety hazards. Ensure that wall is of construction that can support the PORTROD.
SPECIFICATIONS
GENERAL
The PORTROD Wall Mounted Height Rod has a large headpiece and features a clear indicator, which allows
for accurate measurement of a patient’s height. Each PORTROD is designed to provide accurate, reliable, and
repeatable height measurements, and includes features that make the process of measuring a patient’s height
simple, fast, and convenient. Each PORTROD is set up to determine the height of a stationary patient. Height is
displayed in centimeters (cm), inches (in), and feet/inches.

The PORTROD Wall Mounted Height Rod Kit is shipped disassembled in one carton. Carefully
inspect the carton for shipping damage before unpacking. If damage is found, contact Customer
Service immediately.

To avoid damaging the PORTROD when unpacking it, do not use a box cutter, knife, scissors or
any sharp object when opening the protective inner packaging. If damage is found, contact your
shipper or a Health o meter® Professional representative immediately. Claims must be filed with the
shipper as soon as possible after receipt of the package. The following information details what you will
find inside the carton as you unpack the parts for assembly. Set the carton aside for storage.

PORTROD Preparation (Refer to Figures 1-2)
1. Carefully remove the product from the carton, and place on a flat and dry surface.
2. Unfold the PORTROD and ensure that the PORTROD aligns with the upper and lower parts.
Note: Half the measuring strip is attached to the PORTROD.
3. Remove the backing from the measuring strip.
4. Place the measuring strip into the measuring groove exactly as it is taped in the upper portion of
the PORTROD. Ensure that the measuring strip is straight prior to taping it to the lower position
of the rod.
Wall Mounting Instructions
Caution: When wall mounting the PORTROD, ensure that the mounting location is free of
electrical lines, gas pipes, and other safety hazards. Ensure that wall is of construction that
can support the PORTROD.
Note: Do not mount PORTROD on a door.
Mounting on Plasterboard or Drywall (Refer to Figures 1-6)
1. Determine the location of where the height rod will be mounted.
Note: Ensure mounting area is clear of baseboard, carpeting materials, and any other obstructions.
2. Position the headpiece onto the PORTROD by sliding the headpiece into the PORTROD groove.
3. Position the PORTROD 600mm (23-5/8”) off the floor, and hold in place.
4. Align PORTROD by leveling the bubble on the headpiece.
5. When the PORTROD is level, mark screw hole in center of the bottom slot. To mark screw hole,
use nail, pushpin, or slender screw.
6. Remove PORTROD, and hammer the pointed wall fastener/screw completely into wall. Tighten
screw until fastener is secured. (This locks fastener into wall).
7. Unscrew and remove screw from the fastener.
8. Position the bottom slot of the PORTROD over fastener hole.
9. Insert screw and tighten screw until PORTROD is held gently against wall.
Note: Do not tighten screw completely.
10. Check level bubble, and mark screw hole in the center of top slot.
11. Re-measure distance from floor to the lower end of the PORTROD, and confirm PORTROD
height is 600mm (23-5/8”) inches.
Note: If level or height measurement is off, repeat steps 4 through 11.
12. Tighten screws until board is securely against the wall.
13. PORTROD is now complete and ready for use.

Mounting on Wood, Wood studs, or Metal (Refer to Figures 1-2, 4-7)
Caution: When wall mounting the PORTROD, ensure that the mounting location is free of
electrical lines, gas pipes, and other safety hazards. Ensure that wall is of construction that
can support the PORTROD.
Note: For wood, wood studs, or metal walls, use 1.50mm (1/16”) bit.
Note: Do not mount PORTROD on a door.
1. Determine the location of where the height rod will be mounted.
Note: Ensure mounting area is clear of baseboard, carpeting materials, and any other obstructions.
2. Position the headpiece onto the PORTROD by sliding the headpiece into the PORTROD groove.
3. Position the PORTROD 600mm (23-5/8”) off the floor, and hold in place.
4. Align PORTROD by leveling the bubble on the headpiece.
5. When the PORTROD is level, mark screw hole in center of the bottom slot. To mark screw hole,
use nail, pushpin, or slender screw.
6. Remove PORTROD, and drill a hole for the screw with 1.50mm (1/16”) bit.
Note: If drill is not available, start hole by tapping screw with hammer.
7. Position the bottom slot of the PORTROD over the screw hole.
8. Insert screw and washer, and tighten until board is held gently against wall.
Note: Do not tighten screw completely.
9. Check level bubble, and mark center of the top slot.
10. Re-measure distance from floor to the lower end of the PORTROD, it should be 600mm (23-5/8”)
inches.
Note: If level or height measurement is off, repeat steps 3 through 10.
11. Tighten screws until board is firmly against the wall.
12. PORTROD is now complete and ready for use.

HEIGHT MEASUREMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Height Measurements (Refer to figures 8-11)
Note: A patient needs to be a minimum of 600mm (23-5/8”) in height for the height to be accurately
measured.
1. Loosen the black knob located on the right side of the headpiece.
2. Raise the headpiece above the patient’s head.
3. Position the patient against the PORTROD.
4. Ensure that the patient’s posture is upright, and that the patient’s head is straight and level.
5. Push the headpiece down until it rests on the patient’s head, and tighten the black knob.
6. Determine the patient’s height by reading the value on the measuring strip nearest to the line on
the clear indicator. The clear indicator is located on the right side of the headpiece.
