1Preparing the Camera for Use
Prepare your camera for use before you begin using it.

2Turning the Camera On
QPress the power switch.
The camera turns on and is ready to take still pictures. Press the power
switch again to turn the camera off.
QSetting the Language, Date and Time
The language selection screen appears when the camera is turned on
for the first time. Select the desired language and then set the date and
time.
1Use the four-way controller
(2345) to choose the display
language.
2Press the 4button.
Memo
• If you accidentally select another language,
refer to the Operating Manual (p.32) to set the desired language again.

to select [mm/dd/yy], then use the
four-way controller (23) to choose
the date display style.

2Press the four-way controller (5) to select [24h], then use the
four-way controller (23) to select [24h] (24-hour display) or
[12h] (12-hour display).
3Press the four-way controller (5), then press the four-way
controller (3) to move the frame to [Date].
4Press the four-way controller (5) to select [01] (month), [01]
(date) or [2007] (year), then use the four-way controller (23)
to set the date to the current day.
5Press the four-way controller (5), then press the four-way
controller (3) to move the frame to [Time].
6Press the four-way controller (5) to select [0] (hour) or [00]
(minute), then press the four-way controller (23) to set the
time to the current time.
7Press the 4button.
QFormatting an SD Memory Card
Use this camera to format (initialize) an SD Memory Card that is unused
or has been used on another camera or digital devices.
Caution
• Be aware that formatting will delete all the data stored in the SD Memory Card.
Before formatting, save the data stored in the SD Memory Card to a PC. Refer
to the PC Connection Manual for information on how to save the data to a PC.
1Press the 3button, then press the four-way controller
(45) to display [uSetting] menu.

3Taking Pictures
QMonitor indications
Following indications are displayed in the Still Picture Capture
Mode
Battery Level Indicator
You can check the battery level by the windicator on the LCD monitor.
Screen Display Battery Status
w(green) Adequate power remains.
x(green) Batteries are running low.
y(yellow) Batteries are running very low.
z(red) Batteries are exhausted.
[Battery depleted] The camera will turn off after this message appears.

QTaking Pictures
Aim the camera at the subject, then press the shutter release
button. The flash will fire automatically depending on the lighting
conditions.
1Frame the subject using the focus frame on the LCD monitor.
2Use the Zoom/w/xbutton to change the captured area.
3Press the shutter release button halfway.
The focus frame on the LCD monitor turns green if the subject is in
focus.
4Press the shutter release button
fully.
The picture is taken.

Each time you press the four-way controller (4), the flash mode
switches between the following modes.

4Playing Back Images
You can play back the images taken on the LCD monitor.
QPlaying Back Images
1Press the Qbutton after taking a
picture.
The image appears on the LCD monitor.
Memo
• To playback the previous or next image, press the four-way controller (45).
• Pressing fon the Zoom/f/ybutton simultaneously displays 9 thumbnail
images. If you press fagain while the thumbnail images are displayed, you
can switch to folder display. For details, refer to the Operating Manual (p. 90-
91).
QDeleting Images
Deleting a Single Image
You can delete a single image currently displayed on the LCD monitor.
1Playback the image you want to delete.
2Press the ibutton.
The confirmation screen appears.
3Use the four-way controller (23) to select [Delete].
4Press the 4button.

Viewing the Operating Manual and
PC Connection Manual
For detailed operations of the Optio E30 and information on connecting
to a PC, follow the instructions below to view the Operating Manual and
PC Connection Manual contained in the CD-ROM (Operating Manuals)
included with your camera.
1Turn your PC on.
2Insert the included CD-ROM (Operating Manuals) into the CD-ROM
drive.
The PENTAX Optio E30 screen is displayed.
3Install Adobe Reader.
If Adobe Reader is not installed, click [Install Adobe Reader] then [Windows],
click the desired language and install.
Follow the on-screen instructions and proceed. When installation is finished,
the screen from step 2 returns.
4Click [Open Operating Manuals] or [Open PC Connection Manuals].
The language selection screen is displayed.
5Click the desired language.
The selected manual is displayed.
1Turn your Macintosh computer on.
2Insert the included CD-ROM (Operating Manuals) into the CD-ROM
drive.
3Double-click the CD-ROM (Optio E30) icon.
4Install Adobe Reader.
If Adobe Reader is not installed, double-click [Install Adobe Reader] and
install.
Follow the on-screen instructions and proceed.
5Double-click the [Operating Manual] or [PC Connection Manual]
folder icon.
6Double-click the [OPM_OptioE30_EN] (Operating Manual) or
[OPM_OptioE30_PC_EN] (PC Connection Manual) icon.
The selected manual is displayed.
The ending of the file name differs depending on the language folder icon
selected in step 6.
