GETTING STARTED
The PettyDrive is a studio-grade dual-channel analog over-
drive pedal engineered to deliver the powerful tone and
dynamic feel of boutique tube amps pushed to the edge of
breakup. Each of the two fully independent channels are
uniquely voiced to compliment each other and provide a
wide range of sounds that range from thick, saturated Amer-
ican iron and growl to harmonically-rich British-like chime.
Only the highest possible quality audiophile components are
used to ensure the lowest noise, years of reliability and the
most articulate tone possible. The PettyDrive is a serious Tool
for Tone, built for the modern working guitarist in mind with
a balance of advanced tone shaping features, general ease-
of-use and tone that truly inspires.
One particularly unique feature is what we call a “Parallel
Eects Loop” on Channel Two. This Parallel Eects Loop gives
the guitarist real-time access to mix multiple eects together
in parallel and is inspired by the classic studio mixing tech-
nique of parallel processing. The Parallel Eects Loop gives
the guitarist totally new ways of using pedals and creating
textures never before possible in a live rig!
The PettyDrive was specically designed to operate as a drive
system that integrates seamlessly with the Pettyjohn Pre-
Drive in front of it! The PettyDrive can handle large amounts
of pre-boost while retaining its feel and articulation and
you can take your tone to new heights by using both pedals
together!

KNOB & SWITCH IDENTIFICATION
The controls on the PettyDrive may look a bit confusing at
rst glance but rest assured that much eort has gone into
orientating them in an intuitive way. The main controls are
fully symmetrical between the sides, mirrored in their posi-
tion and general function.
Clipping Mini Toggle Convention:
Up: Soft Clipping with a middle amount of headroom
Center: LED clipping with the most headroom
Down: Hard clipping with the least headroom but most “grit”
Low Cut Mini Toggle Convention:
Up: Middle amount of Low End
Center: Least amount of Low End
Down: Most Amount of Low End
Order Flip Switch Convention: The switch points at the
side that comes rst in the chain. Flipping the order changes
the way the circuit interact and load each other for totally
dierent tones when stacked. Be sure to experiment with
the controls each time you ip the order while both are on to
nd the new “sweet spot”.
Bypass Footswtiches: The PettyDrive is congured with
two True Bypass foot switches for engaging/bypassing each
channel independently. The PettyDrive is also equipped with
a extremely high quality always on input buer, which has
been designed to the highest standard and often greatly
improves the bypassed tone quality.
Power Requirements: 9-15V DC center tip negative, at least

CHANNEL 1: CHIME
Low Gain Drive and Boost
Channel One was designed to function as a full-range,
low-gain overdrive or a boost. As the gain is increased the
circuit has been voiced to add a light, sweet, harmonically
rich breakup reminiscent of a pushed British style tube amp.
You may hear signicant amounts of natural compression
that feels much like power amp “sag” at higher gain settings.
Channel One is equipped with an active tilt EQ built with vin-
tage amp style Orange Drop capacitors and sweeps from a
sweet, chimey high boost to a thick, gooey low boost. There
are two 3-way mini toggle switches for quick adjustment of
internal circuit settings. The top toggle changes the clipping
circuit and greatly aects the headroom and tone of the
channel, particularly when pushed hard. The lower mini-tog-
gle is a 3-way low cut switch that toggles between 3 dierent
amounts of low-end allowed through the circuit.

CHANNEL 2: IRON
Classic Style Overdrive with Clean Mix Knob and Parallel
Eects Loop
Channel Two is designed to be your go to overdrive with ev-
erything you want from a great drive and nothing you don’t.
It has been meticulously voiced for smooth yet powerful tone
reminiscent of a cranked American style amp. You may nd
that it needs very little tweaking with almost any guitar or
amp. Simply add gain, level to taste and rock on! The Tone
control is a simple high cut knob that is highly eective for
taming those bright guitars or amps. There are two 3-way
mini toggles again to adjust internal settings on the y. The
top switch adjusts the clipping conguration and the bottom
toggle is a 3-way low cut that switches between 3 lower cut-
o frequencies.
Channel Two also has a Clean Mix Knob, which is the top,
center knob, and it is active when the mini-toggle on the back
of the pedal is in the up position. This control starts at 100%
drive to the right and mixes in clean signal with the constant
overdriven signal as you turn it to the left. Fully left, there
is approximately an equal amount of clean and overdrive.
This control can have a subtle or major eect on the tone
depending on the amount of overdriven gain, the type of gui-
tar and how hard you play. Most of the time this aects the
“feel” more then anything. Experiment with it and have fun!

PARALLEL EFFECTS LOOP
The Parallel Eects loop is activated when the mini toggle on
the back is switched down. This activates the send and return
jacks on the back and converts the Clean Mix knob to a Par-
allel Mix Level knob! The send jack is on the bottom right of
the back (below the input jack) and any pedals you put in the
loop with receive the clean signal as it is before it goes into
the overdrive circuit of Channel 2. The Parallel Loop returns
through the bottom left jack (below the output jack) and it’s
level relative to the overdriven signal is controlled by the top,
center “clean mix knob”. The Output Level knob of channel
two then controls the overall volume of the overdrive and
whatever is mix in through the loop.
Because this loops bypasses the drive engine, it creates an
opportunity to feed pedals with a clean signal that would
normally get an overdriven signal down line and then add
the two together much like two channels adding together
through a recording console. Experiment with other drives,
boosts, reverbs and delays and modulations, anything really!
You may be surprised by how many of your pedals interact
dierently and it creates endless new ways of re-discovering
your gear and creating never-before heard tones!
Note: If all pedals in the loop are bypassed, the clean mix knob oper-
ates purely as a clean mix knob!!
Also Note: In the rare case a pedal reverses the polarity of the signal
it will mix back in out of phase. If you notice a thinning sound when
you engage a pedal, most likely it is ipping the phase of the signal.
Try adding another pedal and see if it comes back into phase. No
rules here, if you like the out of phase sound roll with it!!!
