Important notes for users
in the U.K.
Mains plug
This apparatus is fitted with an approved 13-
Amp plug.To change a fuse in this type of plug,
proceed as follows:
1Remove fuse cover and fuse.
2
Fix the new fuse which should be a BS1362 5-
Amp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.
3Refit the fuse cover.
If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket
outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate
plug should be fitted in its place.
If the mains plug contains a fuse, it should have
a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is
used, the fuse at the distribution board should
not be greater than 5 Amp.
Note:The severed plug must be disposed, so as
to avoid a possible shock hazard due to it being
inserted into another 13-Amp socket.
How to connect a plug
The wires in the mains lead are colored
using the following codes: blue = neutral
(N), brown = live (L).
●As these colors may not correspond with
the color markings identifying the terminals
in your plug, proceed as follows:
–Connect the blue wire to the terminal
marked N or colored black.
–Connect the brown wire to the terminal
marked L or colored red.
–Do not connect either wire to the earth
terminal in the plug, marked E (or e) or
colored green (or green and yellow).
Before replacing the plug cover, make sure
that the cord grip is clamped over the
sheath of the lead and not simply over the
two wires.

1.1 About WAC3500/
WAC3500D *
For true convenience, the all-in-one Wireless
Music Center WAC3500 with 80GB hard disk
lets you stream music from your PC, dock your
iPod, plug and play from USB devices, and enjoy
HDD playback - all in superb sound.
You can centrally store up to 1500 audio
CDs** in the 80GB hard disk on WAC3500. All
stored music will then be wirelessly streamed
from the Center to the connected Stations
(sold separately) via Wi-Fi***.Your music
enjoyment will no longer be restricted by the
location of your CD player or PC, nor the
messy wiring.
* WAC3500D is WAC3500 with an iPod
docking cradle.
** The available storage capacity is based on
the following - 4 minutes per song, 10 songs
per CD on the average, MP3 encoding at 128
kbps, while also taking into consideration that
the operational software also takes up part of
the product’s memory.
Hence, the free space available might be at 75
GB or less, depending on the pre-installed
firmware, audio CD database and demo tracks.
*** Wi-Fi, or IEEE802.11 b/g, is the international
leading industry standard for wireless
broadband networking. Digital data will be
transferred with wider range and bandwidth.

1.4 Environmental
information
All redundant packaging material has been
omitted. We have done our utmost to make
the packaging easily separable into three mono
materials: cardboard (box), polystyrene foam
(buffer) and polyethylene (bags, protective foam
sheet).
The set consists of materials which can be
recycled if disassembled by a specialised
company. Please observe the local regulations
regarding the disposal of packaging materials,
exhausted batteries and old equipment.
Disposal of your old product
Your product is designed and
manufactured with high quality materials
and components, which can be recycled
and reused.

1.5 Maintenance
Cleaning the Set
●Use a soft cloth slightly moistened with a mild
detergent solution. Do not use any solutions
that contain alcohol, spirits, ammonia or abra-
sives.
Cleaning of Discs
●When a disc becomes dirty, clean
it with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the
disc from the center out.
●Do not use solvents such as
benzene, thinner, commercially
available cleaners, or antistatic
spray intended for analog records.
Care and Handling for HDD
(Hard Disk Drive)
The HDD is a fragile piece of device that is
easily prone to damage due to its long
recording capacity and high speed operation.
●Do not move the unit while it is switched on.
●Do not remove the AC power plug from the
power outlet during operation.
●Do not use the unit in excessively hot or humid
places.This may cause condensation to form
inside the unit.
●If the HDD fails, playback and recording will not
be possible. In this case, it will be necessary to
replace the HDD unit.
WARNING!
The HDD is not recommended for permanent
storage of recorded contents. We advise that
you backup your music library in the Center
onto your PC.When necessary, you can still
restore your system with these backup files. For
details, please refer to 6.9 Backup on PC.

1.6 Safety information
●Place the set on a flat, firm and stable surface.
●Keep the system, batteries or discs away from
excessive moisture, rain, sand or any heat
sources, such as heating equipment or direct
sunlight.
●Place the set in a location with adequate venti-
lation to prevent internal heat build-up in your
system. Allow at least 10 cm (4 inches) clear-
ance from the rear and the top of the unit and
5 cm (2 inches) from each side.
●Never cover the ventilation openings with items
such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc as
this will impede ventilation.
●Never expose the set to water dripping or
splashing.
●Never place objects filled with liquids, such as
vases, on the set.
●Never place sources of naked flame, such as
lighted candles on the set.
●The mechanical parts of the set contain self-
lubricating bearings and must not be oiled or
lubricated.
Hearing Safety
Listen at a moderate volume:
●Using headphones at a high volume can impair
your hearing. This product can produce sounds
in decibel ranges that may cause hearing loss
for a normal person, even for exposure less
than a minute. The higher decibel ranges are
offered for those that may have already experi-
enced some hearing loss.
●Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hear-
ing “comfort level” adapts to higher volumes of
sound. So after prolonged listening, what
sounds “normal” can actually be loud and harm-
ful to your hearing. To guard against this, set
your volume to a safe level before your hearing
adapts and leave it there.
To establish a safe volume level:
●Set your volume control at a low setting.
●Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it
comfortably and clearly, without distortion.
Listen for reasonable periods of time:
●Prolonged exposure to sound, even at normally
“safe” levels, can also cause hearing loss.
●Be sure to use your equipment reasonably and
take appropriate breaks.
Be sure to observe the following guide-
lines when using your headphones:
●Listen at reasonable volumes for reasonable
periods of time.
●Be careful not to adjust the volume as your
hearing adapts.
●Do not turn up the volume so high that you
can't hear what's around you.
●You should use caution or temporarily discon-
tinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
●Do not use headphones while operating a
motorized vehicle, cycling, skateboarding, etc.; it
may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many
areas.
CAUTION
Visible and invisible laser radiation. If the
cover is open, do not look at the laser
beam.
High voltage! Do not open.You run the risk
of getting an electric shock.
The set does not contain any user-
serviceable parts.
Modification of the product could result in
hazardous EMC radiation or other unsafe
operations.
Use of controls or adjustments or
performance of procedures other than
herein may result in hazardous radiation
exposure or other unsafe operation.

3.1 Rear connections
Warning:
– Never make or change the connections
when the mains is switched on.
– Install the Center near AC outlets where
the AC power plug can be reached easily.
3.1.1 Connecting antenna
1Extend the wire antenna and fit it to the FM
ANTENNA as shown below
2(Optional) To improve FM reception, fit the plug
of the wire antenna into the plug of the exten-
sion line (sold separately) as shown below
3Extend the extension line and move it in differ-
ent positions for optimal reception (as far away
as possible from the TV,VCR or other radiation
sources)
4Fix end of the extension line to the ceiling
3.1.2 Connecting a USB device
On Center, you can playback music from a USB
device. Also, you can transfer the music from
the library on the Center to the USB device.
Carry your favorite music with you wherever
you go.
1Insert the USB plug of the USB device into the
socket on the Center
For devices with USB cable:
●Insert one end of the USB cable (not supplied)
into the socket on the Center
●Insert the other end of the USB cable into the
USB output terminal of the USB device
Helpful hints:
The Center only supports USB devices that adhere
to the following standards:
–USB MSC ( Type ‘0’ )
–USB MTP
–File system in FAT12/ FAT16/ FAT32
–Operations based on simple folder based navi-
gation (also known as a normal FAT file sys-
tem), and not based on proprietary track data-
base.
The following USB devices will not be supported by
the Center:
–Products with database based UI (Artists,
Albums and Genre based navigation) as these
products normally store music files in a specific
hidden folder and uses embedded proprietary
track database that the Center is unable to
read properly.

3.1.3 Connecting the iPod dock
You can connect your iPod player to the Center
using Philips docking cradle* used for iPod.
Now you will be able to enjoy the music library
in your iPod player via WAC3500’s sophisticated
speaker system.You can even recharge the
player’s battery at the same time.
* For WAC3500, the docking cradle is optional.
For WAC3500D, the docking cradle is included.

3.1.4 Connecting to other additional
devices
It is possible to play audio output from an
external source, e.g.TV,VCR, Laser Disc player,
DVD player on the Center.You can also record
the audio output to the music library in the
hard disk of the Center.
On the additional device
1Connect one end of the audio cable (not sup-
plied) to the AUDIO OUT terminals on the
additional device

2Connect the other end of the audio cables to
the AUX IN terminals on the Center
3To playback audio output from the additional
device, press HOME and select AUX mode by
pressing the navigation controls 3or 4and 2

Helpful hints:
–If the connected device has only a single
AUDIO OUT terminal, connect it to the AUX
IN left terminal. Alternatively, you can use a
“single to double” cinch cable, but the output
sound still remains as mono.
–Always refer to the user manual of the other
equipment for complete connection.
