Setting up the Phone
To set up the PhoneGuardian 100, do the following:
1. Insert the four AA 1.5 V batteries into the battery compartment
in the underside of the base unit.
2. Connect the telephone receiver to the telephone base using
the curly cord supplied.
3. Connect the base unit to the telephone socket using the
telephone connection cable.
4. Connect the base unit to the mains power outlet using the
power adapter plug.

Recording the Emergency Message
The emergency call functionality is used to dial an emergency
service, members of the family or other persons for assistance. For
information on storing the emergency numbers, see Storing
Emergency Numbers. For information on how to place the
emergency calls, see Making an Emergency Call Using the
Emergency Call Pendant.
PhoneGuardian 100 contains a pre-recorded alert message. You
can replace this message with one of your own. The figure below
shows how to do this:

Note: You must end your own alert message by clearly telling
the receiving party to respond to your emergency call by
pressing the 0 key!.
An example message is “This is <your name> at <your address>, I
am in need of assistance, please respond by pressing the 0 key!”.

Storing Emergency Numbers
An emergency call is made automatically to the phone numbers
assigned to the quick dial buttons. That is, the M1, M2 and M3
buttons.
The following figure shows how to save an emergency number.

The phone numbers assigned to the quick dial keys cannot be
deleted. Existing entries are overwritten when you store new
numbers.

Making an Emergency Call Using the
Emergency Call Pendant
The automatic emergency call is initiated by pressing the quickdial
buttons on the telephone or the button on the emergency call
pendent.

When an emergency call is made, PhoneGuardian 100 behaves in
the following way:
1. The telephone issues a warning signal for 15 seconds.
2. The telephone activates speakerphone and plays the alert
message.
3. The emergency numbers are dialled at 60 second intervals. An
emergency call is acknowledged by a call recipient
pressing the “0” button.
4. When the call is acknowledged, the phone is set to
speakerphone mode for 3 minutes. After the 3 minutes, the
emergency numbers are dialled again.
Note: If no phone number has been assigned to M1, M2 or M3, no
phone number is dialled but a loud warning signal is issued from
the telephone.
