1 Description
The MPI-II-C ble connects the progr mming device or PC over the seri l Interf ce (COM-Port) or
the PC over the USB-Bus with the MPI- or DP/FMS-Connector of the S7-300/400 PLC. The C ble
selects utom tic lly on the first ccess which Port nd which B ud r te is used. With our PLC-
Progr mming-Applic tion PG-95/PG-2000 or S7-for-Windows works the MPI-II-C ble with up to
115.2kB ud on the PC - Side. Dedic ted for Siemens-Applic tions the MPI-Speed-driver is
delivered, which could use B udr tes up to 115.2 kB ud. Together with the VCOM-driver you
could progr m your PLC over the USB-Port of the PC.
On the MPI-Side you could use B ud r tes from 19k2 up to 12Mb ud. The B udr tes 3M,6M nd
12Mb ud could only used when configured on the MPI-II-C ble by keybo rd.An utom tic
selection of the MPI-B udr te is possible.
The MPI-II-C ble is power-supplied from the PLC nd needs then no extern l supply. Over n
extern l connector it is possible to supply 24V to the C ble (if the Connection h s only the 2 D t -
Lines). All Volt ges re decoupled together (24V Input to MPI-Bus nd intern l Power-Supply).
2 S stem requirements
2.1 Operating s stem(s)
•Windows 98 + SE
•Windows ME/NT/2000
•Windows XP
•Windows Vist
•Windows 7
2.2 Software
•PLC - Progr mming softw re (for e.g. PG2000, Step© 7, S7 für Windows, Microwin)

•S7-400 (provides b udr tes up to 12M)
•FM-devices
•Sin mix (Step7-direct-driver up V1.20 or PLCVCom up V2.71)
•MicroM ster nd other electric l drives nd inverter-feds (Step7-direct-driver up V1.20 or
PLCVCom up V2.71)
•Sinumerik (only PLC-side)
•SEW-EURODRIVE power inverter
•nd t l st routing of S7-PLCs
3 Installation
3.1 Hardware
MPI/PPI normal mode:
This c ble will be connected with his short side to the MPI- or the DP/FMS-Interf ce of the PLC.
The MPI-II -C ble works with the current output volt ges of the PLC nd doesn’t need ny extern l
volt ges. The c ble requires PLC to get the 24V out of it. You c n lso use n option l power
supply to work with n extern l 24V volt ge. So the c ble c n be lengthen.
The longer side of the c ble must be connect with the progr mming-device or with n PC to the
COM-Port. USB is connected with Type A to A c ble.
When the MPI-II-C ble gets the power it shows the softw re-version in the displ y nd begins with
the test of its intern l components. On the displ y ll relev nt d t is displ yed.
The c ble will find t MPI-Connection the ctive b ud r te to the progr mming-device or to the
PC in the first time of communic tion nd set his b ud r te himself.
If you w nt to connect the c ble to the 25-pin connector of the PC, you c n use n d pter (9 pin to
25 pin sub mini ture D-connector) to work with this port.
The PLC-Progr mming pplic tion PG95/PG-2000 or S7-for-Windows wotks the MPI- II - C ble
with up to 115,2kB ud on the PC-Side.
MPI-II as TS-Adapter (TS = Tele Service):
The TS-function llows the connection of modem, to m ke di l-up-network connection with
2nd Modem nd PC to S7-300/400. The C ble must be connected to TS-Ad pter (with speci l
pinning, no Gender-Ch nger) which is between the modem nd the PLC .
To work with the MPI-II-C ble in his TS-function, you must m ke the following ctions:
1) The c ble must be configured s TS-Ad pter (inste d
of “PG” or “Pg” the LCD displ y shows “TS” or “Ts”). You c n turn on/off these function with the
free progr m “MPI-C ble M n ger”.
3) You need the TeleService-softw re from Siemens in your PC to work with the c ble. The
configur tion of the c ble c n be m de with the TeleService-softw re from Siemens or with the
„MPI-c ble M n ger“
4) The connection of the modem to the MPI-II-c ble must m de with speci l d pterplug
P ge 5 of 92 H ndbook MPI-II

(no gender-ch nger or so)
Interf cec ble 9pin to Modem Order.No. 9350-TS
The d pter for the TS-function only works with the MPI-II C ble with the order-number
9352 !
MPI-II as HMI-Adapter (HMI = Human Machine Interface):
The HMI-possibility llows the connection of oper tor p nel (who h s not n intern l MPI-port,
but the HMI-protocol nd RS232-interf ce or USB) with S7-300/400. The c ble must be
connected between the oper tor p nel nd the PLC. The HMI-protocol must be p rt of the
oper tor p nel.
Behind the version V1.45 of the softw re inside the c ble, you c n use the c ble s HPI d pter.
Some oper ting p nels re m de to work with seri l Siemens-HMI-Ad pter. The pining to our
c ble is different. You m y turn the wires 2 nd 3 in little d pter. Ple se look into the h ndbook
of the oper tor p nel wh t you need for the correct pinning.
This pplys NOT to HMI-Termin ls which re connected over USB.
