Introduzione
Complimenti per aver scelto il nuovo CS 510. Questo misuratore di pressione completamen-
te automatico, da polso, è facile da usare e ideale per la misurazione quotidiana della pres-
sione. Il suo display di grandi dimensioni mostra la pressione sistolica, diastolica e il polso,
tutti chiaramente visibili alla fine di ogni lettura.
Inoltre, con la memoria integrata di CS 510, si possono memorizzare fino a 90 misurazioni,
una caratteristica ideale per quegli utenti che desiderano monitorare e seguire l’andamento
della propria pressione sanguigna regolarmente. CS 510 è compatto, portatile, ideale per uso
domestico e in viaggio.
Le misurazioni della pressione arteriosa determinate con CS 510 equivalgono a quelle che
può ottenere un tecnico qualificato che utilizzi un metodo di auscultazione a bracciale/steto-
scopio entro i limiti prescritti dallo Standard nazionale americano per gli sfigmomanometri
elettrici o automatici. CS 510 va utilizzato da utenti adulti in un ambiente domestico.

Osservazioni preliminari
Lo sfigmomanometro è conforme alle normative europee e reca il marchio “CE 0068”. La
qualità dell’apparecchio è stata verificata e risulta conforme alle disposizioni della direttiva del
Consiglio europeo N° 93/42/EEC del 14 giugno 1993 sulle apparecchiature mediche, oltre
che alla direttiva EMC N° 89/336/EEC:
EN 1060-1 (nov. 1995) Apparecchio per la misurazione non invasiva della pressione
sanguigna. Requisiti generali
EN 1060-3 (feb. 1997) Apparecchio per la misurazione non invasiva della pressione
sanguigna. Requisiti supplementari dei sistemi di misurazione
elettromeccanica della pressione sanguigna.
Per garantire misurazioni accurate, si raccomanda di verificare la taratura dell’apparecchio
ogni due anni.
Come funziona CS 510
CS 510 utilizza il metodo oscillometrico per la misurazione della pressione arteriosa. Prima
che il polsino venga gonfiato, l’apparecchio fa in modo che questo abbia una pressione di rife-
rimento iniziale equivalente a quella dell’aria. Premendo un pulsante, l’apparecchio comincia
automaticamente a gonfiarsi. Con il gonfiarsi del bracciale, CS 510 determinerà la pressione
arteriosa, analizzandone le oscillazioni. Una volta misurata l’ampiezza e il gradiente delle
oscillazioni della pressione, l’apparecchio visualizzerà la pressione sistolica e diastolica,
misurando al tempo stesso la frequenza del polso.
La pressione arteriosa
Cos’è la pressione arteriosa?
La pressione arteriosa è la pressione esercitata sull’arteria durante il flusso del sangue attra-
verso l’arteria stessa. La pressione che si misura quando il cuore si contrae e pompa fuori il
sangue è la pressione sistolica (la massima). La pressione che si misura quando il cuore si
dilata richiamando sangue è detta diastolica (la minima).
Perché si misura la pressione?
Tra i vari problemi di salute che affliggono l’uomo moderno, i problemi legati all’ipertensione
arteriosa sono di gran lunga i più comuni. La correlazione pericolosamente stretta tra iperten-
sione arteriosa e malattie cardiovascolari, contraddistinte da elevata morbosità, ha reso neces-
saria la misurazione della pressione per identificare i soggetti a rischio.
Pressione arteriosa normale
L’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità (OMS) ha sviluppato una norma per la pressione arte-
riosa in base alla quale identificare i valori a rischio di ipotensione e ipertensione. Questa
norma, tuttavia, vuol essere solo una direttiva generica, dato che i valori pressori individuali
variano a seconda delle popolazioni, delle fasce d’età considerate, ecc.
E’ importante consultare il proprio medico con regolarità. Il medico sarà, infatti, in grado di
dirvi quali sono i vostri valori normali di pressione e in corrispondenza di quale valore dove-
te considerarvi a rischio.

Fluttuazioni della pressione arteriosa
La pressione arteriosa varia continuamente!
Non è il caso di preoccuparsi se due o tre misurazioni dovessero dare valori alti. La pressio-
ne varia nel corso del mese o addirittura del giorno. E’, inoltre, influenzata dalla stagione e
dalla temperatura.

Alimentazione:
Come indossare l’apparecchio:
Inserimento delle pile
1. Rimuovere il coperchio del vano batteria
2. Inserire la prima batteria nel comparto inferiore posizionan-
dola sopra il nastro
3. Inserire l’altra batteria e ripiegare il nastro sopra di essa
4. Richiudere il coperchio del vano batterie, inserendo prima i
ganci e successivamente facendo pressione sull’estremità
dello sportello del vano batteria.
Le pile vanno sostituite quando:
1. Sul display appare l’icona di batteria scarica
2. Si preme il tasto ON/OFF/START e non appare nulla sul
display
Nota: le pile sono rifiuti pericolosi. Non smaltirle assieme ai
rifiuti domestici.

Postura corretta per la misurazione:
1. Appoggiate il gomito su un tavolo in modo che l’apparecchio sia
alla stessa altezza del cuore come in fig. A.
Nota: Il cuore si trova poco al di sotto dell’ascella. State rilassati, in
particolare rilasciate la zona tra il gomito e le dita.
2. Se il manicotto non è alla stessa altezza del cuore, o se non riu-
scite a tenere ben fermo il braccio durante la misurazione, usate
un oggetto morbido, come ad esempio un asciugamano ripiega-
to per sostenere il braccio, come in fig. B. Non lasciate che ogget-
ti duri entrino in contatto con il
polsino.
3. Girate il palmo verso l’alto.
4. State seduti in posizione eretta e
fate 5 o 6 respiri profondi.
Non appoggiatevi all’indietro
durante la misurazione come in
fig. C
Consigli utili
Seguono consigli utili per ottenere letture più accurate:
• Non misurare la pressione subito dopo aver consumato un pasto abbondante. Per letture
più accurate, lasciar passare almeno un’ora prima di misurare la pressione.
• Non fumare e non bere alcolici prima di misurare la pressione.
• Quando si misura la pressione non si deve essere fisicamente stanchi o affaticati.
• Durante la misurazione è importante rimanere rilassati. Cercare di riposare 15 minuti prima
di misurare la pressione.
• Non misurare la pressione se si è sotto stress o tesi.
• Misurare la pressione a temperatura corporea normale. Se si sente freddo o caldo, aspetta-
re un po’ prima di procedere alla misurazione.
• Se il monitor viene conservato a temperature molto basse (vicine allo zero), metterlo in un
luogo caldo per almeno un’ora prima di usarlo.
• Far trascorrere almeno 5 minuti tra una misurazione e l’altra.
Eseguire una misurazione
1. Applicare l’apparecchio al polso. Premere il tasto ON/START. Tutte le cifre si accenderanno
per controllare le funzioni del display. La procedura di controllo termina dopo circa 2
secondi.
2. Dopo aver visualizzato tutti i simboli, il display mostra uno 0 lampeggiante. A questo punto
l’apparecchio è pronto per la misurazione.
3. Dopo che l’apparecchio ha gonfiato il polsino fino ad una pressione di ca. 180 mmHg, la
misurazione inizia.

Nota: se l’apparecchio continua a non funzionare, portarlo presso un Centro Assistenza auto-
rizzato Artsana. In nessun caso si deve smontare l’apparecchio e tentare di ripararlo da soli.
4. Una volta completata la misurazione, pressione sistolica, diasto-
lica e polso appariranno simultaneamente sul display e verranno
salvati automaticamente nella memoria del
sistema. La memoria può contenere fino ad un
massimo di 90 misurazioni.
5. Premere il tasto ON/OFF per spegnere l’appa-
recchio. Se non viene toccato nessun tasto l’apparecchio si spegne
automaticamente dopo 60 secondi.
Se il sistema rileva che il vostro corpo ha bisogno di una pressione maggiore per misurare la
pressione, l’apparecchio si rigonfia automaticamente fino ad una pressione di ca. 220 mmHg,.
Nota 1: questo apparecchio si spegne automaticamente 60 secondi dopo l’ultima attivazione di qual-
siasi tasto.
Nota 2: Per interrompere la misurazione, basta premere un tasto qualsiasi. Il polsino si sgonfierà
immediatamente dopo aver premuto un tasto.
Nota 3: durante la misurazione non parlate e non muovete i muscoli del braccio o della mano.
Richiamare i valori in memoria
1. Per leggere i valori memorizzati, premere il tasto Memoria. I
valori in memoria appariranno sul display LCD. L’ultima misura-
zione sarà la prima ad essere mostrata. Ogni volta che si preme
Memoria si visualizza la precedente misurazione memorizzata.
Nota 1: i dati in memoria non ven-
gono persi nemmeno quando l’ap-
parecchio è spento.
Nota 2: i dati in memoria possono
essere cancellati in due modi:
• Rimuovendo le batterie
• Premendo il tasto Memoria per più di 5 secondi

Avvertenze:
1. L’apparecchio contiene componenti di alta precisione. Si devono quindi evitare temperatu-
re estreme, umidità e luce solare diretta. Evitare di far cadere o scuotere con forza l’unità
principale e proteggerla dalla polvere.
2. Pulire con cura il corpo del monitor e il bracciale, utilizzando un panno morbido e legger-
mente umido. Non premere. Non lavare il bracciale e non usare detergenti chimici. Non
usare mai solvente, alcool o benzina come detergenti.
3. Se le pile perdono possono danneggiare l’apparecchio. Togliere le pile dall’apparecchio se
questo non viene usato per lunghi periodi di tempo.
4. Non premere il tasto ON/START se non si ha l’apparecchio al polso.
5. Non fare utilizzare l’apparecchio ai bambini.
6. Non smontare l’unità o il polsino.
7. Se l’apparecchio viene conservato a temperature vicine allo zero, prima dell’uso lasciarlo a
temperatura ambiente per un periodo di tempo di acclimatamento.
8. CS 510 non può essere riparato al momento. Non usare attrezzi per tentare di aprirlo e non
cercare di regolare nulla al suo interno. In caso si verifichino problemi, contattare un Centro
Assistenza autorizzato Artsana.
9. L’apparecchio non è indicato per pazienti con aritmia comune (battiti prematuri atriali o ven-
tricolari, fibrillazione atriale), problemi circolatori, problemi renali, o per pazienti che abbia-
no subito ictus o in stato di incoscienza.

Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the new CS 510. This fully automatic wrist blood pres-
sure monitor is easy to use and ideal for daily measurements. The large display clearly shows
systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate after each reading.
In addition, the built-in memory of the CS 510 enables it to store up to 90 measured values,
an ideal feature for users who wish to monitor and track their blood pressure readings on a
regular basis. The CS 510 is compact and portable, making it ideal for home use and travel
Blood pressure measurements taken with the CS 510 are equivalent to those obtained by a
trained person using the armband/stethoscope auscultation method, within the limits pre-
scribed by the American National Standard for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers.
The CS 510 is designed for home use by adults.

Preliminary remarks
This blood pressure monitor complies with the European regulations and bears the EC mark
"0068". The quality of the device has been verified and conforms to the provisions of European
Council directive 93/42/EEC dated 14th June 1993 regarding medical devices, as well as EMC
directive 89/336/EEC:

Supplementary requirements for electromechanical blood pres-
sure measuring systems
To ensure accurate measurements, the calibration of the device should be checked every two
years.
How the CS 510 works
The CS 510 uses the oscillometric method to measure arterial blood pressure. Before the arm-
band is inflated, the device will establish a baseline armband pressure equivalent to the air
pressure. At the press of a button, the armband is automatically inflated. As it inflates, the CS
510 will measure your arterial blood pressure, analysing its oscillations. Once the amplitude
and gradient of the pressure oscillations have been determined, the device will display the
systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate.
Arterial blood pressure
What is arterial blood pressure?
Arterial blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery as blood flows through it. The
pressure measured when the heart contracts and pumps out blood is the systolic pressure
(highest). The pressure measured when the heart dilates and blood flows back is called dias-
tolic (lowest) blood pressure.
Why Measure Your Blood Pressure?
Amongst the various health problems afflicting modern man, problems linked with high blood
pressure are by far the most common. The dangerously close relationship between high blood
pressure and heart disease, characterised by high morbidity, has made it necessary to moni-
tor blood pressure in order to identify those at risk.
Blood pressure standard
The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a blood pressure standard, identifying
risk areas for hypotension (low blood pressure) and hypertension (high blood pressure). This
standard, however, is a general guideline as individual blood pressure measurements vary
according to population, age group, etc.
It is important to consult your doctor regularly. Your doctor will be able to tell you your nor-
mal blood pressure range as well as the point at which you should consider yourself at risk.

Blood Pressure Fluctuation
Blood pressure fluctuates all the time!
Do not worry if two or three measurements are high. Blood pressure fluctuates during the
month and even throughout the day. It is also influenced by season and temperature

Power supply
Applying the armband
Inserting batteries
1. Remove the battery cover
2. Insert the first battery in the lower position on top of the rib-
bon.
3. Insert the other battery and fold the ribbon over it.
4. Replace the cover by placing the end tabs of the battery cover
in the slots on the top of the battery compartment and push-
ing down the other end to secure the battery cover.
Replace the batteries when:
1. The flat battery symbol appears on the display
2. Nothing appears on the display when the ON/OFF/START
button is pressed
Note: Batteries are hazardous waste. Do not dispose of them
together with domestic refuse.

Velcro strap securely around your wrist so that there is
no extra space between the armband and your wrist, as
shown in Fig. C.

Correct Measuring Position
1. Place your elbow on a table so that the armband is at the same
level as your heart, as shown in Fig. A.
Note: Your heart is located slightly below your armpit. Relax your
entire body, especially the area between your elbow and fingers.
2. If the armband is not at the same level as your heart or if you are
unable to keep your arm completely still whilst the measurement
is being taken, use a soft object such as a folded towel to support
your arm, as shown in Fig. B. Do not allow hard objects to come
into contact with the wrist arm-
band.
3. Turn your palm upwards

Helpful Tips
Here are a few helpful tips to help you obtain more accurate readings:
• Do not measure your blood pressure immediately after eating a large meal. To obtain more
accurate readings, wait at least one hour before measuring your blood pressure.
• Do not smoke or consume alcohol before measuring your blood pressure.
• Do not measure your blood pressure when you are physically tired.
• It is important to relax during measurement. Try to rest for 15 minutes before measuring
your blood pressure.
• Do not measure your blood pressure if you are tense or under stress.
• Measure your blood pressure at normal body temperature. If you are feeling hot or cold, wait
a while before taking a measurement.
• If the monitor is stored at very low temperature (near freezing), put it in a warm place for at
least an hour before use.
• Leave at least 5 minutes between each measurement.
Taking a measurement
1. Place the armband on the wrist. Press the ON/START button. All the digits will light up to
check the display functions. The checking procedure will take about 2 seconds.
2. After having displayed all the symbols, the display will show a flashing 0. The monitor is
now ready to measure.
3. Once the monitor has inflated the armband to a pressure of approximately 180 mmHg,
measurement will begin.

4. When the measurement is complete, the systolic and diastolic
pressure and pulse rat values will be shown simultaneously on
the display and automatically saved in the sys-
tem’s memory. The memory can store up to 90
measurements.
5. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the monitor
off. If no button is pressed, the monitor will automatically switch off
after 60 seconds.
This monitor will automatically inflate the armband to approximately 220 mmHg if the system
detects that your body needs greater pressure in order to measure your blood pressure.
Note 1: This monitor automatically switches off 60 seconds after the last button pressed.
Note 2: To interrupt the measurement, simply press any button. The armband will deflate
immediately after the button is pressed.
Note 3: Do not talk or move your arm or hand muscles during measurement.
Recalling values from the memory
1. To read the values stored in the memory, press the Memory but-
ton. The memory values will be shown on the LCD display. The
last measurement will be shown first. Each time the Memory but-
ton is pressed, the previous memory value is displayed.
Note 1: The data in the memory will not be lost even when the

is switched off.

Cautionary notes:
1. The unit contains high-precision components. Therefore, avoid extreme temperatures,
humidity and direct sunlight. Avoid dropping or vigorously shaking the main unit and pro-
tect it from dust.
2. Clean the blood pressure monitor body and armband carefully with a slightly damp, soft
cloth. Do not press. Do not wash the armband or use chemical cleaners on it. Never use
thinner, alcohol or petrol as cleaning fluids.
3. Leaky batteries can damage the unit. Remove the batteries if the unit is not used for long
periods.
4. Do not press the ON/START button when the armband is not placed around the wrist.
5. Do not let children use the device.
6. Do not disassemble the main unit or armband.
7. If the unit is stored at temperatures near freezing point, allow it to acclimatize at room tem-
perature before use.
8. The CS 510 is not field serviceable. Do not attempt to open the device using tools or try to
adjust anything inside it. If you have any problems, please contact an authorised Artsana
service centre.
9. The device is not suitable for use by patients with common arrhythmia (atrial or ventricular
premature beats or atrial fibrillation), diabetes, circulatory disorders, kidney problems,
those who have suffered a stroke or are in a state of unconsciousness.

qualité de l’appareil a été testée et résulte conforme aux dispositions de la directive du Conseil

Mode de fonctionnement du CS 510
Pour mesurer la pression artérielle, le CS 510 utilise la méthode oscillométrique. Avant que le
manchon soit gonflé, l’appareil fait en sorte que celui-ci ait une pression de référence initiale
équivalente à celle de l’air. Appuyer sur une touche permet à l’appareil de lancer automatiquement
le gonflage. Le manchon gonflé, le CS 510 déterminera la pression artérielle en analysant ses
oscillations. Après avoir mesuré l’amplitude et le gradient des oscillations, l’appareil affichera la
pression systolique et diastolique et mesurera simultanément la fréquence du pouls.
La pression artérielle
Qu’est-ce que la pression artérielle ?
La pression artérielle est la pression exercée sur l’artère durant l’écoulement du sang dans
celle-ci. La pression mesurée lorsque le cœur se contracte et chasse le sang est la pression
systolique (valeur maximale). La pression mesurée lorsque le cœur se dilate et rappelle le
sang est dite diastolique (valeur minimale).
Pourquoi mesurer la pression ?
Parmi les divers problèmes de santé qui affectent l’homme moderne, ceux qui sont liés à l’hy-
pertension artérielle sont de loin les plus courants. La relation dangereusement étroite entre
hypertension artérielle et maladies cardiovasculaires, caractérisées par une morbidité élevée,
a rendu la mesure de la pression nécessaire afin d’identifier les sujets à risque.
Pression artérielle normale
L’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) a développé une norme relative à la pression
artérielle, en fonction de laquelle identifier les valeurs à risque d’hypertension et d’hypoten-
sion. Cette norme se veut toutefois une simple directive générique, les valeurs individuelles
de la pression variant en fonction des populations, des tranches d’âge prises en compte, etc.
Il est important de consulter régulièrement votre médecin. Celui-ci sera en effet à même de
vous dire quelles sont les valeurs normales de la pression et face à quelle valeur vous devez
vous estimer à risque.
